You're allowed to have two players with the same number on the team as long as they play on different sides of the ball. Last year it was Devante Davis wearing number 7. The thing about Kidsy and Lewis is that they both play offense.

I don't know. I agree, it would be a shame to not give him a chance. He's got playmaking ability and he looks surprisingly polished as a route runner in his film.

The interesting one on this year's roster is that Darvin Kidsy and Mark Lewis are both listed as number 4.

Caught me! Yeah, his production is there. Just a matter of size or lack thereof. We don't need him to start with the corners we have on our roster but he could be a guy who covers a slot receiver, especially against a 5-wide set.

My point was that Rollins has a chance to emerge as the number two guy by then. Yes he'll have to beat out Lewis and anyone we pick up in recruiting, but he has that opportunity.

Yeah, I have talked to him before and he said he was still a redshirt freshman. I've heard that there might be a minimum of plays to retain a redshirt. Not sure if that's true or not but it seems he is somehow still a redshirt freshman. Quite frankly that is important, since we need some backs after Byrd graduates this year and Pegram next year.

You've said this before, but I can assure you that he is a redshirt freshman. How sure are you that he stepped on the field?

That game was a perfect blueprint for play calling in my opinion. Most, almost all, of DT's completions came on hitches and slants that game. Then when we got close to the goal line we gave the ball to Jimmerson and used misdirection to get Chancellor the ball in the open space. Those plays worked and we should do more of that this year. We also put Chancellor in the wildcat and that was pretty effective as well. I wouldn't mind seeing that this year again, but the coaches might be scared to do that after his injury last year.

We're all hoping that he improves and will gladly give him a chance to do so. I personally am being critical of his performance last year, but it'll be easily forgives with a good year this year and a bowl.

Thank you. I spit out these stats all the time but I don't see how DT passed the eye test in anyone's opinion. After watching DT in the spring game I don't see how anything notable has changed. But it has to. Yes, the first-down run percentage is too high, but we need to be more effective passing the ball. Whatever down it may be. The question is, does DT have a shorter leash this year? Or maybe the question is, do Mac and Chico mix it up a little more on offense if someone else is under center?

There's no sugar coating it. DT did hold our team back last year. We've gone in circles with this argument so many times, and honestly, I think we will continue to until the season starts and probably after. It's fun though, so why not? In the 2013 record poll I talked about how inneffective DT was during some of our home games, in particular the TSU, Troy, and South Alabama games. In all 3 games we out rushed the opponent but were out gained through the air. All 3 games DT completed less than 50% of his passes. We lost the Troy game and would have lost the other two if we had been playing anyone other than FCS for Texas Southern and newly FBS South Alabama. Losing a home game despite only giving up 14 points may have been the low point of last season for all of us. We know that we haven't been very good on the road under Coach Mac, but we have been decent at home (7-4 to be exact). During the last two years DT is completing 53% of his passes. Yes that number is maybe lowered by some drops, but guys like Darnell Smith, Ivan Delgado, and Andrew Power have bailed DT out on more than a few throws so that cancels out the drops potentially skewing his completion percentage. Blaming the receivers for this passing game futility is weak. They weren't a great group last year, but to give them all or even the majority of the blame is ridiculous. We all know that we struggle on the road, so that means we have to take care of business at home. If DT is still completing just 53% of his passes, especially with as much time as we give him to throw, we will struggle to win 2 games at home (Idaho and UTSA) or overall for that matter. He can improve and he's going to have to.

Even if DT doesn't turn the ball over much by interceptions(14 is kind of high) he turns the ball over on downs enough to make up for it.

When we are having success passing the ball at home we are good. If DT could play like he did against LaLa we'd have a chance in every home game this year. TX Southern we out gained them 497-185, including a 352-31 edge on the ground. Complete domination. Unfortunately our qb was 11-24. That kept our point total down and the game within reach. Out gained Troy by 40 yards but 12-28 by our qb, as well as some missed kicks lead to only 7 points for the home team. We were able to beat South Alabama despite being out gained 366-303 and our qb completing again just 12-28 passes for 108 yards. Very few teams in the country do we beat that night. I know, too much blame on the qb. But we can't expect to win home games where he goes 12-28 against the teams we play at home this year. Yes, Idaho and UTSA are the only teams we could potentially get away with it. Maybe.

We could potentially play 14 games (not that you don't already know that). It's hard to predict a bowl win because we don't know who we would be playing or where it would be, but I'll say we win it, because why not!

Because the remaining Dodge players are 4th and 5th year guys now and he actually did a decent job recruiting high school players. Problem was he didn't leave Mac with very many. Dodge's 2010 signing class had 12 high school guys. 7 of them are starting, 1 is our kicker, 1 is our deep snapper, 1 is Richard Abbe (TBD), backup receiver and special teams contributor Derrick Teagarden, and the one who didn't work out in Graylin Hawkins. 11 out of 12 contributors is pretty good, but it's still only 11 out of 12. The 2009 class had 21 overall signings but just 14 high school guys. These high school signings weren't as efficient as the 2010 class, but we did get Ryan Boutwell, Hilbert Jackson, Derek Thompson, LaChris Anyiam, and Daniel Prior. Punter Will Atterberry finished his four-year career last year, but the other 8 high school guys either left early or never made it in. So 6 out of 14 guys have contributed under Coach Mac, 4 of which are our current starters. Between the 2009 and 2010 class, Dodge left Coach Mac with 17 high school signees. Most classes have more high school kids than that every single class. Not only that, but a lot of those JUCO guys that Dodge filled those last two classes with either didn't make it in or didn't contribute much for us. With Atterberry gone and potentially Abbe gone, we have 15 guys left from the class of 2009 and 2010 to start this season. 11 of these guys are slated to be starters, plus our kicker and deep snapper. Additionally, 4 of these guys have garnered preseason all-conference potential in Antonio Johnson, Mason Y'Barbo, Brelan Chancellor, and Zach Orr (all 4 from 2010 class). Coach Mac and crew have done an amazing job developing these guys who were redshirt freshman and sophomores when they got here. Not to mention Coach Mac's 2011 class which has 3 preseason all-conference caliber players in Zach Whitfield, Derek Akunne, and Cyril Lemon. The bare cupboard excuse is always a lame one, but it can't be made anymore. The Dodge holdovers have proven to be pretty good and, while they make up a good amount of our starters, Coach Mac has brought in guys and kept them here. We have these all-conference guys and depth, at least in numbers, to go along with it.

Good teams win the games they should and take care of business at home. Let's prove we're a good team.

This would be a good year to take two running backs. We will only have 4 running backs on scholarship heading into the 2014 and one will be a senior (Pegram), one junior (Jimmerson), and two sophomore backs who are unproven so far at least (Lewis and Rollins).

LSU. I know some on here don't like us recruiting in Louisiana, but that is some fertile recruiting ground. LSU is the top school in that state, and while LSU plucks the top ones there are plenty of good players who just miss out on getting offered by LSU. Selling to those kids that you could play LSU, or that you're the team who hung with or beat LSU that would make getting those kids even easier. In Texas you have UT, OU, A&M, Tech, and unfortunately TCU, SMU, and Houston to contend with. Those are the in-state schools who are currently ahead of us on the totem pole. Louisiana doesn't have as many good players but they have plenty of good players who don't get offered by LSU. I like our chances trying to beat out La Tech and Tulane for a recruit than A&M and Texas Tech. For games that we wouldn't be overwhelmed in and would potentially have a shot I'd say Vanderbilt, UCLA, Mizzouri, Baylor, and Emmitt said some good schools too.

Yeah, it shouldn't be marked down as an automatic win, but it is a home game. And I really feel like we have a chance with whoever we play at Apogee.

I think we would be closer to #7 or #6 after winning our conference championship game. It also depends largely on how many undefeated and 1 loss AQ schools there are.

Yeah, I can see that. I was just more curious on how we could see this prediction coming true. You know, with us being homers and all. I'm not saying I expect this to happen, I just want to hear what everyone thinks needs to happen in order for our offense to improve this much. Great answer Harry!

In Phil Steele's preseason college football magazine he has our passing offense projected to be the 12th most improved in the country and our offense to be the 2nd most improved in the country in terms of points scored (interestingly behind Tulane). Steele also predicts that Berglund will be our qb. I want to know, outside of who is under center for us, what are the keys to making this happen for our passing game to improve this much and our overall offense?
