I think we did on signing day. I looked at the roster and counted everyone on scholarship, which came to 79. Since then Devante Davis, Boone Feldt, Dustin Clark, Dylan Mcdorman, and Xavier Kelly have left and Richard Abbe has been taken off scholarship. That's 6 guys right there. With all of our 2013 signings making it in that would make sense that we have 79 scholarship players currently.

So Connor Means will be an early enrollee. That's awesome, especially for a quarterback. Does anyone know the last time we had a high school kid enroll early?

Breaking news — UNT adds WR Fonzale Davis

Davis is now listed as a commit on rivals fwiw. -
With things picking up a little but in the recruiting class of 2014 I wanted to see how you guys feel we should fill our scholarship spots. We currently have 17 scholarship seniors on our team, and about 79 players currently on scholarship. This 79 does not include Oregon transfer Anthony Wallace, who will be a part of the 2014 signing class like Darius Terrell and Reggie Pegram were last year. This 79 also does not include walk ons how may be put on scholarship this semester (i.e. Kaydon Kirby). We will lose 1 qb, 1 running back, 3 receivers, 2 tight ends, 1 o-lineman, 3 d-lineman, 2 linebackers, 3 dbs, and 1 kicker to graduation. My prediction: 23 total signees - 1 qb - 2 running backs - 3 receivers - 3 o-lineman - 1 tight end - 5 d-lineman (3 tackles, 2 ends) - 3 linebackers (including Anthony Wallace) - 3 defensive backs - 0 kickers (could get one depending on how confident Coach Mac is with Zach Paul and Travis Tamez replacing Zach Olen) - 2 athletes/best players available

I am very happy to see us doing this. A lot of big time programs have events like this around this time. Tennessee had one called foundation week last week where they got about 5 commits, Georgia has one called Dawg Night, and I think Florida has one called Friday Night Lights also. Coach Mac wants nothing less than for UNT to be a top destination for recruits and not just a fallback plan.

Breaking news — UNT adds WR Fonzale Davis
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Positives: We have some solid interest from some good players who have impressive offer lists and have even landed a few commitments recently. Also, Ryan Walters looks like a solid young coach and a very good recruiter. Negatives: A few commitments seem to be soft commits and those players are not shutting down their commitment. More positive: We will have a very good chance to further impress these players who have interest in us and the soft commits. A winning season could help validate the guys who pulled the trigger to realize why they picked us and be confident with that decision, as well as give us a good chance with the other players. Should be a fun recruiting season! If we win they will come! Not rocket science, but easier said than done. -

We'll only return 7 scholarship receivers after this year is over if everyone stays. Only two of which has any experience so far in Carlos Harris and Derrick Teagarden. The others are Darius Terrell, Darvin Kidsy, Turner Smiley, Nick Schrapps, and Rod Lancaster. Good to see us add some talent to our potential future receiving core. -

Momentum may be a little overzealous, but I like what we've done lately with the visitors, camp, and possible commit(s). Still haven't heard anything from Vito about Means, but I think we have a really good shot of holding onto Jackson. -

Wow. Sounds like we have a little recruiting momentum going this summer. A few weeks ago it felt like we had none at all. -

Interesting. Didn't know that about Ryan. As for McCoy, he came in as a walkon after he served our country.

I'll admit to being a newer Mean Green fan. While I didn't follow the team the way I do now, I did keep up with UNT growing up. I remember guys like Booger, Awasom, Cobbs, Jamario Thomas, all the way through Vizza and Dunbar until I enrolled at UNT in 2011. I want to know how you guys think this year's senior class stacks up against previous senior classes in the Mccarney era and in recent memory in general. 4th and 5th year players: Out of the 2010 and 2009 classes we signed a total of 26 high school kids. 17 of those kids were still here when Coach Mac got here and all are still here with the exception of Will Atterberry who graduated. Run down: 5 fifth-year seniors from signing class of 2009 (Thompson, Anyiam, Prior, Boutwell, and Hilbert Jackson). 7 fourth-year seniors, guys who never redshirted, from signing class of 2010 (Byrd, Chancellor, Abbe, Bellazin, Orr, Wright, and Olen). Finally, 4 fourth-year juniors from signing class of 2010 (A Johnson, Y'Barbo, Teagarden, and Dunham). 12 seniors who have been here on scholarship their entire college career may not seem like a lot, but compare that to a total of 4 last year (Feeley, Cantly, Phillips, and Atterberry). Not to mention 2 of those seniors are receiving some preseason all-conference hype (Orr and Chancellor), and 2 fourth-year juniors are as well (Johnson and Y'Barbo). Then you throw in FBS transfer Marcus Trice, juco transfer DQ Johnson, and former walkons such as Drew Miller and Darnell Smith. These guys who've been here together this long together make me feel confident in the leadership on this football team.

QB Connor Means (Deer Park) commits to North Texas

Yup, you're right. Graham is listed as a commit on our rivals page. Our school page is still there but it isn't active. Only thing that updates is the commits. -

We'll see. He's a kid who you never know if he's just holding out for better offers. Hopefully we can keep him. Because we aren't a big name, sites are usually a little slow on noticing our commitments. Usually the kid's high school coach has to notify rivals or whoever that their player has committed to us. Rivals should have Means and hopefully Graham down soon. -

His preseason 2012-2013 status as a consensus top 10 (top 5 according to chad ford on ESPN) player on draft board's can be used by JJ at LSU. His 37th overall pick can be credited to Benford.

Is this confirmed? Would be a very nice pickup to compete with Dajon Williams after BB and Mcnulty graduate. Here's his 247 recruit profile. Also holds offers from LaLa, ULM, and Texas State. http://247sports.com/Player/Connor-Means-20563 -
2 seasons as a starter is a fair chance to win the coaches trust.

This is an argument of your's that has some merit, but I disagree. I believe if Mac had confidence in DT then we would see him throwing more on first and second down. He ran the ball just as much with Seneca Wallace and Iowa State so that gives your argument a little more credibility. Problem is Wallace threw 18 ints his senior year, so it's understandable why Coach Mac didn't conduct an air-raid offense with Wallace either. Whether everyone in the stands is predicting a pass or no one is, DT had all day to throw last year whether it was third or first down, yet he made innacurate throws. No one saw a pass coming on that trick play against Troy but that didn't stop DT from missing a wide open Drew Miller. That WKU game was very telling. It made me believe that Coach Mac really doesn't trust DT and I think Mac will give Berglund or Mcnulty a shot this year. I really think Coach Mac is saying DT is the guy for now and saying Berglund is third could just be him egging Berglund on to make up ground in the competition. Just call me a conspiracy theorist! I do agree with you that we need less predictability even if DT is under center, but I don't agree that Mac and Chico will run just as much even with an adequate qb.
