We need to and should win this game at home big. They're breaking in a freshman qb on the road and we're going against a defense that was one of the worst in the country last year and is breaking in 8 new starters. We need to score, score often, and force this kid to make mistakes. Point is we should win this game and it shouldn't be because of the jerseys. I'm a superstitious guy, but we should expect to win this game handily no matter what.

Not to get in a pointless argument with you, but they're making it sound like get up as in get up from being knocked down. As in, get up from being knocked down one more time than you get knocked down. It just sounds better than get up every time you get knocked down.
-
My only problem with the video is the logic. How can you get up one more time than you've been knocked down?

I like the balance of this class so far
BillySee58 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Coach Mac said he was looking for about two guys at the end of last class who were "athletes" that could project to multiple positions. I think we'll do the same this class. -
Kevin Strong DT Cleveland, Tx

Wow, sorry. Definitely meant Ryan. But yeah, the DT from Lufkin is a long shot but the way we're recruiting you never know. -

And they signed an absolute stud last year in Rod Crayton. He was offered by a lot of big schools based on his film but had offers taken away because teams were scared about his height and the fact that he lost half his foot in an accident, I think lawn-mowing. Check out this offer list http://rivals.yahoo.com/southernmiss/football/recruiting/player-Rod-Crayton-128755 As for Strong and Gambrell, at the risk of sounding like sour grapes, I think we have better recruits that we are in the hunt for. Gambrell was offered based on size but honestly his hudl film is pretty underwhelming. He's a big time project and Strong is more of a backup plan. Hurts to lose these guys, just not that bad. Let's focus on JT Williams from Denton Guyer. -
UNT lands Key Offensive Line Recruit Christopher Miles

Great comparison. Obviously our situation is on a smaller scale than A&M, but if we have a good year our recruiting will continue to blow up. This little recruiting hot streak we're on should show us that we have great potential, seeing that we're only beginning to tap it.- 38 replies

Quayshawne Buckley back on Idaho roster
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely. We need to impress everyone with how fast a start we get off to. Let's get a big first quarter followed by a standing ovation at how well we're playing. -
UNT lands Key Offensive Line Recruit Christopher Miles
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely. Those would be two solid guys who could project to multiple positions on the offensive line. Don't forget about Avery Fortenberry, Aaron Fortenberry's little brother. Avery just graduated high school but iirc he was given a grayshirt offer, which means he might be part of this class at offensive line as well.- 38 replies

Buckley, one of Idaho's best defensive players, was reinstated to their team about a week ago. Buckley is about 6'3" 300 lb at defensive tackle. He is ranked right up there with Max Forde, their junior defensive end, as the most talented player on their defense. Makes their defensive line even better and even more experienced. Going to be a fun matchup between our o-line and their d-line. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=205&f=2664&t=11732109&p=1

We need that. This shouldn't be a game we win by single digits. Not at home against this Idaho defense. Heck, that performance last year against Texas Southern was a bad precursor of what was to come the rest of the year. Us scoring only 34 points against Texas Southern and being 11-24 passing makes sense for a team that averaged just 20.9 points per game.

They have a redshirt freshman at qb. Name is Chad Chalich from just up the road in Couer D'Alene, one of the top programs in their state. He's maybe 6'0" and he's a dual threat who won their qb spot in the spring basically by default. They return four starting o-lineman and a fifth with some starting experience, their tight end (not much of a pass-catching threat), a couple good receivers and their backup running back return. Most of their depth at the skill positions will rely on JUCO guys. As for their defense, their strength and experience is at defensive line. They're also pretty big on the d-line. Linebackers have no starting experience and are almost al JUCOs. Secondary has one returning starter and JUCO guys. They were one of the worst defensive teams in the country and they only return three starters. We need to score like crazy on them. Our defensive should hold them at least under three scores and force some turnovers at home against a freshman qb.

2014 Offer Tre Betts Sand Springs OK DB/S
BillySee58 replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I agree. Ok st and OU only take a few out of their state a year. That leaves room for us to take out 2 or 3 quality guys a class out of Oklahoma. The bigger the UNT brand gets the more we should be able to reach out of the state of Texas for recruits. -
Offensive Coordinators in the stands
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
That sounds pretty cool. I would not be opposed to that in the least. -
Offensive Coordinators in the stands
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
Idaho had a weak secondary last year and is returning just one starter and their line backing crew is brand new as well. We have to throw like crazy all over their back seven. -

I second the stretch running plays. Byrd was very effective on those plays in the Houston game. -
With fall camp set to start tomorrow one thing we're all anxious to see is how improved this veteran offense is going to be with Mac and Chico talking about opening up the playbook. Last year we averaged just 20.9 points/game which was good for just 105th in the country. While many of us have confidence in our OC Mike Canales, myself included, there are always plays that we as fans would've called differently. Heading into this year what are some plays that you would call more this year and would like to see us run? For me I thought the wildcat with Chancellor worked well last year and I'd like to see more of that. I also want to see us run screen plays to Jimmerson, seeing as we scored 3 touchdowns on those plays last year.

2014 Offer Tre Betts Sand Springs OK DB/S
BillySee58 replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Does he have any other offers? There are no other offers listed on rivals. If he commits that'd be both safety spots filled up for this class. -

Just heard Norm on the EA Sports NCAA deal
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Correction: he's #4 in NCAA football 14 and, as you said, Berglund is #16. So they can't possibly be the same guy, right? -

Tyler Stradford was a borderline 3 star. People call him a bust, but he was a reach for OU to sign in the first place. He was a 3 star on rivals and ESPN and a 2 star on scout, when scout was relevant. Stradford was a major reach for OU who they signed because he was fast and that's it. He had no other major offers for a reason. As for Cam Feldt, and Boone really, it shows how hard it is to project high school lineman playing low level football. Pushing around 180 pound defensive ends looks cool on the highlight tape but doesn't prepare them well for battle tested D1 defensive lineman.

That's my point. It's much easier to project guys once you've seen them strap on their helmets for the Green. Even if just for a game like Brooks. Projecting players in high school, especially after their junior year like our current commits, is extremely difficult. All star ratings mean is that some people are judging their potential athletically. If there is a consensus that a kid has good skills on the field by multiple recruiting outlets then the kid probably has something that college coaches can work with. Whether they end up as head cases or have no work ethic is not indicated by stars. Of course stars don't determine how successful a player will be, they just give a reference point as to how talented he is in high school compared to current and future recruits.
