  1. Idaho had a weak secondary last year and is returning just one starter and their line backing crew is brand new as well. We have to throw like crazy all over their back seven.
  2. I second the stretch running plays. Byrd was very effective on those plays in the Houston game.
  3. With fall camp set to start tomorrow one thing we're all anxious to see is how improved this veteran offense is going to be with Mac and Chico talking about opening up the playbook. Last year we averaged just 20.9 points/game which was good for just 105th in the country. While many of us have confidence in our OC Mike Canales, myself included, there are always plays that we as fans would've called differently. Heading into this year what are some plays that you would call more this year and would like to see us run? For me I thought the wildcat with Chancellor worked well last year and I'd like to see more of that. I also want to see us run screen plays to Jimmerson, seeing as we scored 3 touchdowns on those plays last year.
  4. Does he have any other offers? There are no other offers listed on rivals. If he commits that'd be both safety spots filled up for this class.
  5. We've also offered his teammate Cedric Gambrell. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Cedric-Gambrell-137754
  6. Correction: he's #4 in NCAA football 14 and, as you said, Berglund is #16. So they can't possibly be the same guy, right?
  7. Tyler Stradford was a borderline 3 star. People call him a bust, but he was a reach for OU to sign in the first place. He was a 3 star on rivals and ESPN and a 2 star on scout, when scout was relevant. Stradford was a major reach for OU who they signed because he was fast and that's it. He had no other major offers for a reason. As for Cam Feldt, and Boone really, it shows how hard it is to project high school lineman playing low level football. Pushing around 180 pound defensive ends looks cool on the highlight tape but doesn't prepare them well for battle tested D1 defensive lineman.
  8. That's my point. It's much easier to project guys once you've seen them strap on their helmets for the Green. Even if just for a game like Brooks. Projecting players in high school, especially after their junior year like our current commits, is extremely difficult. All star ratings mean is that some people are judging their potential athletically. If there is a consensus that a kid has good skills on the field by multiple recruiting outlets then the kid probably has something that college coaches can work with. Whether they end up as head cases or have no work ethic is not indicated by stars. Of course stars don't determine how successful a player will be, they just give a reference point as to how talented he is in high school compared to current and future recruits.
  9. So you use a couple of 2 star players (Stojkovic and Brooks) as examples of how highly ranked players don't always pan out? At least keep the argument consistent.
  10. 1st law of recruiting: Any spark in conversation about one's team's recruiting class, whether positive or negative, will result in an argument about how stars don't matter.
  11. Also Xavier Washington http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Xavier-Washington-144371 Christian Beard http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/179980/christian-beard And Jeffery Wilson http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Jeffery-Wilson-154072
  12. I mean, we only scored 20.9 points per game last year, which is only 1 point/game more than a team who went 0-12 in this conference last year (Southern Miss).
  13. Thank you! Let's not forget about Wallace!
  14. Seriously?! Came home from work yesterday to find out we landed Garner, today come back and see we got Montgomery and McClain!! I knew it was not a matter of if but when with Montgomery, but McClain was a very pleasant surprise. I love the way our class is shaping up defensively.
  15. I never said anything about killing the sport, I'm just talki about the game.
  16. I agree. Some money should've been donated to the schools and bowls, not just the NCAA. There's greed involved from both sides, I just think Sam Keller and Ed O'Bannon are two of a few who are ruining something for a lot of people.
  17. This is a little more recent. Two years ago Rod Lancaster only had an offer from us and was a 3 star, and Nick Schrapps only had us and an Air Force offer yet was still a 3-star. It is very political though.
  18. It's ridiculous IMO. Every player I know dreams of being on that game and expects nothing more than being able to play as themselves in return. Because a few greedy guys like Ed O'Bannon and Sam Keller believe they should get a cut they're going to ruin this for everyone else. If the creators of the game made up random players with random ratings the real players would all be mad that the teams wouldn't be real enough. A vast majority of college football players play this game religiously and love playing with players modeled after themselves and their teammates. Old baseball games used to be like this too, but instead the players' numbers they would scramble up their name. For example, Nolan Ryan would be named Rye Noles and would be based off of the Nolan Ryan when it came to skill ratings. The game will go on but it's ridiculous that it had to come to this.
  19. We have to get more touches for Jimmerson. Byrd wasted some good run blocking at times last year. Jimmerson gets in the endzone. I know people like to look at Byrd as the power back, but he ran too top heavy last year and would get tripped up too easy even with a head of steam going. Jimmerson is over an inch shorter, weighs more, and carries more of his weight in his lower body. That's why even though Byrd is the "power" back, Jimmerson still breaks more tackles. Byrd may have improved, but Jimmerson is a game changer.
  20. How do ya figure? Byrd averaged 4.2 yards/carry and Jimmerson averaged 5.
  21. Lemon is ranked one of the top 40 or so draft eligible guards according to Phil Steele.
  22. Wow! So this happens while I'm at work. Good deal, big pickup. Another 3-star (according to 247) for all you stargazers.
  23. Right. Darnell Smith did nothing but make plays and find a way to get open in the second half of the season. Same for Harris. Now that they have some experience under their belt I expect them to be even better. And yes, judging from spring they have improved.
