  1. I think Jimmerson's speed is a little underrated. He definitely got to the third level the most out of all our backs which is the important part, but everytime he got caught they had an angle on him. Yeah, he isn't going to be a burner or homerun back, but as shifty, explosive, and yes, fast as he is at 5'8" 222 is nothing short of a phenomenal.
  2. For those concerned about Shawn McKinney's size, first of all I do not think all of these listings are 100% accurate and I don't think he weighs 365. Second, I was playing touch football with him this summer at my old high school and he was really showing some darn impressive speed. One play I was sure I had overthrown Shawn and he turned on the afterburners and made a snag. Dude's athleticism really had me impressed. Not saying he's going to start, but I'm not scared that he's too out of shape to play.
  3. He was playing last year at 219, he's 3 more pounds this year. At his size the kid is an athletic freak of nature.
  4. Exactly. If it happens that way I'd be fine with it as well. But yes, my point was more based off of what our performance was like last year against Texas Southern and how we went about scoring our 34 points that game. The way that game went foreshadowed how inneffective our offense would be the rest of the year. Despite our defense forcing 4 turnovers and giving us good field position we were only able to score 34 points against an FCS team. Not to mention we dominated on the ground, getting 6.2 yards/carry for a total of 352 yards. All those factors have to result in more than 34 points. Same with the Idaho game. We should be able to force turnovers against a freshman qb on the road, not to mention a team in it's first game with their new coach and new offense. Even if we're working out some kinks we should control this game and show it on the scoreboard.
  5. Yeah, JT Williams from Ryan is a little more realistic. I'm just talking about DJ Williams who seems like a longshot. I'm seeing if there's any merit as to whether or not we have gained any ground with DJ or if he's as good as gone.
  6. Yeah, he's a good who we should and need to pull out all the stops to get. Unfortunately OU isn't our only team that we need to make up ground against here. Miami and Missouri have themselves in good position here as well.
  7. I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but we have to score more than 34 points at home against this Idaho defense. If we only get 34 points this game we need personnel changes to the offense or you can expect us to average somewhere around 20.9 points a game again this year. That'd make it pretty tough to get to a bowl game like we're all hoping this year.
  8. Does anyone know anything about DJ Williams' recruitment? Everyone seems to be mentioning him a lot lately as the top prospect who we have a shot at. Is this just optimism because we have offered and are doing well in recruiting or has anyone read anything about his recruitment that is positive for us? Not trying to put us down right now, I'm just curious. Here's his 247 page. http://247sports.com/Recruitment/DJ-Williams-29836/RecruitInterests He has 4 crystal ball predictions and they're all for OU. Basically 4 insiders on the website have predicted that if he were to sign right now it'd be for OU. It also has his interest in us listed as cool while he has 8 other schools listed as warm, which includes 3 schools (Baylor, UT, and Tech) who haven't offered him yet.
  9. Or we could call the students the village people! Because, you know, we play in Mean Green Village. Intimidation factor would be at an all time high on nickname alone!
  10. We need to and should win this game at home big. They're breaking in a freshman qb on the road and we're going against a defense that was one of the worst in the country last year and is breaking in 8 new starters. We need to score, score often, and force this kid to make mistakes. Point is we should win this game and it shouldn't be because of the jerseys. I'm a superstitious guy, but we should expect to win this game handily no matter what.
  11. Not to get in a pointless argument with you, but they're making it sound like get up as in get up from being knocked down. As in, get up from being knocked down one more time than you get knocked down. It just sounds better than get up every time you get knocked down.
  12. My only problem with the video is the logic. How can you get up one more time than you've been knocked down?
  13. Coach Mac said he was looking for about two guys at the end of last class who were "athletes" that could project to multiple positions. I think we'll do the same this class.
  14. Wow, sorry. Definitely meant Ryan. But yeah, the DT from Lufkin is a long shot but the way we're recruiting you never know.
  15. And they signed an absolute stud last year in Rod Crayton. He was offered by a lot of big schools based on his film but had offers taken away because teams were scared about his height and the fact that he lost half his foot in an accident, I think lawn-mowing. Check out this offer list http://rivals.yahoo.com/southernmiss/football/recruiting/player-Rod-Crayton-128755 As for Strong and Gambrell, at the risk of sounding like sour grapes, I think we have better recruits that we are in the hunt for. Gambrell was offered based on size but honestly his hudl film is pretty underwhelming. He's a big time project and Strong is more of a backup plan. Hurts to lose these guys, just not that bad. Let's focus on JT Williams from Denton Guyer.
  16. Great comparison. Obviously our situation is on a smaller scale than A&M, but if we have a good year our recruiting will continue to blow up. This little recruiting hot streak we're on should show us that we have great potential, seeing that we're only beginning to tap it.
  17. Absolutely. We need to impress everyone with how fast a start we get off to. Let's get a big first quarter followed by a standing ovation at how well we're playing.
  18. Absolutely. Those would be two solid guys who could project to multiple positions on the offensive line. Don't forget about Avery Fortenberry, Aaron Fortenberry's little brother. Avery just graduated high school but iirc he was given a grayshirt offer, which means he might be part of this class at offensive line as well.
  19. Buckley, one of Idaho's best defensive players, was reinstated to their team about a week ago. Buckley is about 6'3" 300 lb at defensive tackle. He is ranked right up there with Max Forde, their junior defensive end, as the most talented player on their defense. Makes their defensive line even better and even more experienced. Going to be a fun matchup between our o-line and their d-line. http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=205&f=2664&t=11732109&p=1
  20. Wow! This guy's offer list was blowing up! Another commit who multiple schools were after.
  21. We need that. This shouldn't be a game we win by single digits. Not at home against this Idaho defense. Heck, that performance last year against Texas Southern was a bad precursor of what was to come the rest of the year. Us scoring only 34 points against Texas Southern and being 11-24 passing makes sense for a team that averaged just 20.9 points per game.
  22. They have a redshirt freshman at qb. Name is Chad Chalich from just up the road in Couer D'Alene, one of the top programs in their state. He's maybe 6'0" and he's a dual threat who won their qb spot in the spring basically by default. They return four starting o-lineman and a fifth with some starting experience, their tight end (not much of a pass-catching threat), a couple good receivers and their backup running back return. Most of their depth at the skill positions will rely on JUCO guys. As for their defense, their strength and experience is at defensive line. They're also pretty big on the d-line. Linebackers have no starting experience and are almost al JUCOs. Secondary has one returning starter and JUCO guys. They were one of the worst defensive teams in the country and they only return three starters. We need to score like crazy on them. Our defensive should hold them at least under three scores and force some turnovers at home against a freshman qb.
  23. I agree. Ok st and OU only take a few out of their state a year. That leaves room for us to take out 2 or 3 quality guys a class out of Oklahoma. The bigger the UNT brand gets the more we should be able to reach out of the state of Texas for recruits.
  24. That sounds pretty cool. I would not be opposed to that in the least.
