DT was a combined 35-80 at home last year against FCS Texas Southern, Troy, and newly FBS South Alabama. 44% completion percentage at home in 3 games against those teams. These CUSA defenses will be better than Texas Southern, Troy, and South Alabama. How do we get a bowl game with a guy who completes 44% of his passes against those teams?

Vito's articles about Thompson are always "he's not as bad as UNT fans make him out to be. He's actually okay, by UNT standards."

Unfortunately it's starting to sound like DW and BB are just not where they need to be mentally to start. Thing is they have the talent to give us a chance. Still, I hope you're right.

I'm tired of bashing his play, but you're one of the top 5 posters on this board IMO. This post makes me realize why I, among many, bash DT. I have no clue how we're going to "hit 6" with DT. I will support him, make no mistake. This team has been built up too far to not get at least 6 wins. People say qb gets too much blame sometimes. Thing is, there's a reason why the qb gets a lot of blame.

As 90 would say, coach speak. Y'Barbo, Lemon, Johnson, Orr, and Chancellor all went into camp as guys who the coaches said had their jobs locked up. Those guys are entering their third years as the starters, just like Thompson.

A 2-year returning starter should be the undisputed guy going into fall camp.

They did. I completely agree that we need to throw more and mix it up on 1st more, just not sure how much DT will convert. I'd rather find out and be disappointed than not see what could've happened. Another thing about running into the box last year is that despite the heavy fronts I thought we blocked it up well. I thought Byrd wasted a lot of good blocking last year. We have too many good backs and a potential superstar in Jimmerson. If Byrd doesn't produce more than he did last year then some of his carries should go elsewhere. He did look better in spring IMO.

Yes, the recruiting isn't DT's fault. What is his fault is his inability to progress and develop this far. Hopefully he has, but he just seems the same up to this point.
-
He's not exactly new but his emergence is something to keep an eye on. We're plenty deep at RB and Jimmerson could be special as our lead guy/workhorse
-
Yeah, I just don't see how they can go with someone who they don't trust. I do feel that DT has earned the lack if trust. Hope he does good, I'm just tired of seeing defenses stack the box like they do.

Right there with you brother.

That's what I'm thinking. If Mcnulty is number 2 then I doubt anyone else sees snaps against Idaho.
-
Nothing wrong with that, just an observation I noticed. Anyways, why do we have to be haters? I don't think he's a good qb but he plays for us so I support him when he's in the game. Just because I'm not a fan of his game doesn't mean I want him to do bad.
-
The ones who are big Derek Thompson enthusiasts usually spell his name like that.
-
So who's number 2? And does he see snaps in that first half against Idaho?
-
It should be. Tomorrow is the last scrimmage.
-
No, you can't. Here's to someone winning this position. DT starting isn't the worst thing, unless it's by default of no one truly winning.
-
See, here's the thing. By that logic DT has proven that he can't. So, by that logic, that takes DT out of the equation. Then who do we start? DW has looked good but he hasn't even had a rep with the first team, in a scrimmage at least. Mcnulty hasn't exactly wowed or stepped up in this qb race. And of course, Berglund has underperformed and hasn't given any indication that he is ready to start, despite having the physical assets.
-
Visitors side is right next to students.
-
Yup. Unless Mac is trying to push BB and BB responds, then yeah. These scrimmages are going to be paramount for the qbs
-
There's been a lot of evidence of Mac possibly trying to light a fire under BB since spring. I really think he might be the guy Mac wants to see under center, or he might just be the qb performing the 4th best right now. BB has impressed Mac and just about everyone on the team with his skills at some point in practice. Mac is making him earn it, no doubt. Some thought BB was going to be handed the job by default in the fall. That has been far from the case. But yes, El Paso Eagle has a good point. Gotta go with the qb that gives you the best chance of scoring points. Not the one who messes up the least.

Those threads, often pointless in the grand scheme of things, make for fun debate and interesting opinions. Everyone wants us to win football games. You don't need a fan board to know that.
-
If he doesn't make something big happen at the next scrimmage then he's just about sealed his fate and has no one to blame for that but himself.
-
Of course. Everyone on this board is, save for the troll fans. That goes without saying IMO.
