If that could happen then we'd be favored or have a very good (legitimately) to win each game for the rest of the season. The depth on this team will really come into play this season, especially as we get later in the year. By Mac keeping the guys he signs and developing them, he has developed a true D1 team with depth.

Pretty good write up. I think these rankings are pretty spot on, at least with what little we know so far. Also, 3 of the top 4 teams in our conference (according to this list) are in the eastern division which means we could have a good shot to compete in the west, especially if Tulsa stays down. We also avoid the top two teams (Marshall and ECU) and we get MUTS and the only team ahead of us in our division (Rice) at home. Couple of huge home games potentially looming for us in October.

What would you like to see us do offensively against Ohio?
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Against a zone coverage DT is going to need to be quick and accurate with the ball. A lot tougher test this week than that abomination of a secondary that Idaho had. He doesn't need to be 23-27 this week, but I would like to see a lot more if those high completion passes we had Saturday. We have the playmakers at receiver to dink and dunk the ball and keep the chains moving. Curls, screens, jet outs, and quick slants worked great because DT got them where they needed to be and our receivers made guys miss. Let's see more of that. -
Will wright looked as good as he ever has on Saturday. He's gotten bigger and speed has never been a problem for him. We all know what Akunne can do too. Hopefully our stud line backing core can expose these backup lineman. And yes, being down two centers will be an interesting situation to watch.

Iowa state vs Nebraska is a tough match up.

Basically, yeah. They get their pick of the litter in Texas of all states. Them and Georgia are the biggest underachieving teams in all of college football for that reason. Georgia should have been to at least one BCS national championship game by now, and Texas hasn't won 10 games in 4 years. But that's another story.

Thanks Joey! Good to hear you had a good time. You guys will be fun to watch, especially with the Chalich-Watson tandem. As far as your optimism, sorry if I tried to take it away. Optimism is one of the few things you're guaranteed as a true die-hard fan of a team that goes through it's ups and downs. Good luck the rest of the year.

That's what I think too. I don't think it's fair but I wasn't at the practices so we'll never really know. Kind of a shame, but I hope he sticks around.

Yup. Unless something major changes it'll be Dajon. It seems Berglund's window of opportunity closed and Mcnulty, who has actually had a chance to prove it on the field, just isn't a starting D1 qb.

Evans got some playing time, particularly in the second half. He's jersey #1.

Makes me wonder what Saturday's game did for DT as far as how short his leash is and how much, if any, did his performance extend his leash.

UNT's Derek Thompson: Heisman Hopeful?
BillySee58 replied to 7travis5's topic in Mean Green Football
Let him earn the nickname Derek consistency before all that. -
Maybe my favorite thing that we learned from this game is that we have a legitimate D1 receiving corp with depth. We usually talk about how the o-line, running backs, linebackers, or sometimes even defensive backs are our best and/or deepest unit. Saturday showed that that honor could go to our receivers. As special a receiver as brelan is, I think Darnell Smith may be our number 1 receiver and for good reason. He's our most underrated player on the team IMO and his talent gets overlooked because he was once a walkon. He's got the size, speed, and route-running abilities to move the chains and be a deep threat. Also Kidsy, Terrell, Harris, And others showed play-making potential at wideout in game 1. My point through that splurge on the receivers is that Brelan can be on the bench this year and we can still move the ball through the air. We went 5 wide a few times Saturday with Brelan on the sidelines. While it would be a waste to not get our dynamic playmaker the ball through the air, we have options and can give him plenty of rest time before and after his returns. This way he won't be worn out and he can be fresh while returning punts and kicks, helping us win that battle of field position.

Not your fault. Longwood would probably be a better opponent for us, but that's not worth getting into. Maybe your subconscious wishing we were playing a D1 school?
-
Isn't the 11/09 game Northwood? Plenty of winnable games. Hope that translates to wins and some confidence heading into conference play.

Way to go Zach! Great job!

Breaking news — UNT's Josh Friar to Junior College
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
But then shouldn't we have beef with Benford offering him in the first place? -
Next opponent Ohio vs. #9 Louisville , today 2:30 ESPN
BillySee58 replied to ADLER's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely. Our's is sky high right now. We have a big chance to seize this huge opportunity. Hard to tell how good a team is when they're playing a money game, but this Ohio team beat Penn State last year. -
Breaking news — UNT adds WR Fonzale Davis
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
The De Soto defensive lineman couldn't have been that quiet. Their defense held Martin to under 200 yards of total offense and less than 100 rushing for a team that has been one of the best rushing teams in the metroplex in recent years. Maybe they weren't making plays left and right, but it sounds like they were doing their job. Good to hear about Fonzale though. -
A lot of positives tonight, but 2 sacks for Roberts. How about that? Polk also got some good pressure on the qb off the bench. Hopefully this pressure keeps up.

Great game from DT, great game called by Chico. Truth is, none of those passes we're high difficulty and there is nothing wrong with that. He made the throws and that's all you can ask. That's what needs to happen all year long.
-
Whether he taps the brakes or not doesn'tchange how excited he is or how well Connor's going to play. Connor's potential is through the roof with his size and strength and the kid plays pissed off. Can't wait to watch. He's a redshirt freshman I'd be most looking forward to watch play regardless of whether I know him or not. On a separate note, thank The Lord for football today! Been waiting for this for too long!

Don't forget about Michael Brewer.

It's gonna be painfully hot on Saturday
BillySee58 replied to meangreener's topic in Mean Green Football
There is a lot ridiculous about that. What I don't understand, besides the coach, is why the game was scheduled at 3 in August. That's the hottest time of the day in the hottest month in freaking Texas. My youth football leagues didn't start playing until September and even then we played on Saturday mornings. -
I'm from Tennessee, so I've followed them for a while. You're partly right, there was a lot more to that season than the infamous "claw-fense." He didn't get near the production he should've with guys who were drafted in the NFL like Luke Stocker, Jonathon Crompton, Denarius Moore, Montario hardesty, and NFL superstar Arian Foster to name a few. Clawson isn't a joke, he just was in the SEC. Yeah, I wouldn't mind going after him but I also have some faith in Mac and Chico. Hope they prove me right.
