MGB: Desmon White talks about commitment to UNT
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Here's a plan B. Nikia Cathey, a kid out of Memphis. http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Nikia-Cathey-139705 I really wish Mac would go after him. I really think we could out recruit Austin Peay (FCS), MUTS, South Alabama, and Northern Illinois for him. I've said it a couple times before, but I wish we would push Memphis more. It's closer than many realize and there are some good players who either don't quite get offered by SEC schools or do but get the offered pulled after the school fills up on recruits. Cathey was a former Miss St commit, not exactly sure what happened there. For reference, the schools Cathey is considering are 209 miles (Austin Peay), 245 (MUTS), 387 (USA), and 564 (NIU). Denton is only 489 but is also the fastest drive. I've made the drive in 7 hours by going about 5 over the whole ride. We also play a lot of schools that are pretty close to Memphis, so his family and friends could watch him play plenty. Whether you think recruiting Memphis is a good idea or not, do yourself a favor and watch Cathey's highlights. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e1CR14OlhpE&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3De1CR14OlhpE -
Southern Miss to start true freshman at QB vs North Texas
BillySee58 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
I thought I remembered more than a few first downs and I thought the touchdown came on a scramble. It didn't matter and it wasn't catastrophic, but we can do better than that. Our defense is stout. -

Last two? What about the MUTS game? Grammar had over 100 yards rushing and over half were on pass plays were he had to scramble. Most of the scrambles were right up the middle to. He did it all game right up until Sed knocked his lid off. -

Last year when thins got bad they started this true freshman at qb. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Anthony-Alford-118664 Kid had offers from schools like Clemson, Bama, and LSU but things got disastrous. He completed less than 45% of his passes and disgruntled fans were criticizing his play, which ticked his mom off and this happened. http://offthebench.nbcsports.com/2012/10/26/ma-nooo-mother-of-so-miss-qb-arrested-at-game-for-defending-sons-honor/ She ended up getting arrested at the game. Losing seasons are tough on everyone and we've been there. Putting in another true frosh this year shows they have nothing to lose. Teams with nothing to lose can be dangerous, but if you get them down their frustration can grow exponentially. Get em down early and often. -

It did. Huge play and great job by Zach! Nice to have some solid depth at corner -
The Press Box: UNT beats Southern Miss 28-13

Was starting to think you were a fortune teller Tim -
I've been accused of clinging onto Berglund and Trussell's respective jocks because someone didn't agree with me. Funny how personal people can get if they don't agree with your OPINION on sports. This season has a chance to be a special one. Anything that prevents it from being so is going to frustrate the fans who really do care and don't want to settle.
-
No, not just you. I don't agree with you about everything, but I do think it's ridiculous why you're getting blasted. So would fast starts hurt our team because we wouldn't be able to "wear down the defense" by pounding our heads constantly into 8 and 9 man front early in the game? Especially on first down. We still only scored 21 offensive points yesterday. We have this outstanding line that received as good praise as you can get from an opposing player, some dynamic receivers including chancellor and smith, and some darn good backs. Just because we are beating teams that are vastly (yes, vastly) inferior doesn't mean we should be satisfied with being down 10-0 late in the second and only putting up 21 points from our offense. People keep saying "just win." Of course that's all that matters. But what results in an ugly, "just win" type win against La Tech could easily result in losses against teams like Rice and Tulsa. And for those who haven't seen those teams play, we should beat those teams, especially since Rice is a home game.

Every time it doesn't work on mobile version. I go to the bottom left of the page and have to click full version for the link to work.
-
Exactly. Just because we are capable of getting out of these holes we are digging ourselves in doesn't mean we should keep doing it. Rice, and even Tulsa are games that it will probably be pretty tough to get ourselves out of a big hole, should we dig one.

Kind of hard to tell since A Johnson was being redshirted his freshman year. Really wish Abbe had been redshirted so we could have him for next year. He played o-line in high school so that year he could've really used a redshirt year while he was cutting weight and learning how to play defensive line. But, Todd Dodge was in desperation mode so he needed Abbe.

Ohio improved to 5-2 today and Ball State improved to 7-1. They have to just be kicking themselves that they lost to us. Also, Georgia dropped their second straight game. Not a great season for those guys. Saw someone compare our loss to Tulane and Ball State's loss to us. Big difference IMO. We outgained Tulane by over 130 yards, while Ball State was not able to outgain us (we outgained them by about 10 yards). Regardless, our tough out of conference looks to have done a pretty good job of preparing us for this conference slate.
-
I don't know what 90 said that was premature. We were playing too conservative. We got one deep ball in the first half on a tremendous catch and run by Brelan, other than that we had nothing to speak of.

Have to put them right below A&M Commerce

He meant that he would be looking for Orr hiding under his jersey, because he couldn't seem to get Orr off of him all day. Twas a very weird reference.

Belongs to your North Texas Mean Green!
-
If we can hold on we'll have a better record than TCU and SMU. Best record in the DFW has a nice ring to it.
-
Just like every conference game, we're a better team than our opponent
-
That's the second time in the last two road games where DT has stared down the defensive lineman that he threw the ball to. I completely agree that it was a stupid call, but DT needs to throw the ball at Byrd's feet instead of right in the lap of the d-lineman.

Thoughts after watching Desmon White...

Hey Cooley, there was some talk after the injury was diagnosed for Graham that he might be back by playoffs. Do you know if that is still a possibility? -

Dodge was injured during his senior season iirc. I'm pretty sure he missed two or three games. -

That usually factors in at least a little bit. White is another example of why a big year on the field could be vital for recruiting. Also for a guy like Fonzale Davis who is really drawing a lot of attention from the big boys. -
