DRC: McCarney credits change to making things uncomfortable
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
La Tech has given up over 600 yards rushing the last two games. Sure, one of those teams was Army, but that is a lot of yards (over 400 for army). Point is, we should be able to run the ball against them, even against 8 in the box. If DT is making plays we should put up more than 21 points, which is our season high for points scored on the road this year. -

This, lol. Including Kram, who calls out everyone's intelligence, reading skills, and typing skills. All in good fun Kram. No one is perfect. -

The MUTS game will be the last game all year where the team we play says "beat us with your running game, we dare you." It has been the other way around for almost every game since Mac has been here, and it will be back to that way for the rest of the year. Teams will see the MUTS film and continue to stack 8 in the box and make DT beat us. -
It's hard to move up the rankings if you can't string together more than 1 win at a time. As 90 said, big time opportunity games on the road. Would it be a stretch to say the next two are must win games? In the sense that if you want to make a bowl game, surely you must be able to beat teams that aren't in the top 100 teams in the country.

Interesting that we brought in at least a couple of 2014 qbs, considering we already have a commitment from Connor Means. Means hasn't had a very impressive senior year so maybe the coaches want to have a backup plan.

A nice start would be winning these next two road games against teams that we are better than. And we are better than La Tech and USM. Make no mistake about it.

QB questions come as Raiders fall 34-7 at UNT
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The only damage they did against us was Grammar scrambling. Our pass defense was stellar and he had no one to throw the ball to, which gave our pass rush ample time. Not sure Kilgore would have made any difference positively, but they could have been even worse off without Grammar's scrambling ability. -
As good as he's been doing, that block in the back on the blocked kick Jones returned for a td drove me and many others nuts. James Jones is quickly becoming one of our best players. He could be our best overall player on our defense next year, looking a little down the road.

Three way tie with us, Tulane, and Rice all taking turns beating each other and finishing 7-1 in conference. Very unlikely and early to be talking about that, but it is a possibility. We just need to take care of our business for now.

I feel for you. Your 4 years were about as rough as it gets. Glad that didn't keep you from supporting the guys in green. I'd bet a lot of your classmates don't come to games as alumni because "we suck at football" or at least did during that period. They're missing out on some good football that I'm sure you're loving as an recent alum.

10th win in 14 games at Apogee. From a student's standpoint a lot of students complain about Apogee and the cost of the stadium, but it has really been great on mine and a lot of others' college experiences. I for one am completely thankful for the payoff it has had early on and will for years to come. Awesome homefield advantage!

We had some tackling trouble bringing down their qb Grammar, but very few flaws outside of that tonight. Defense was dominant. Not an understatement.
-
Awesome game! If we can take care of our business we will need to be scoreboard watching Tulane.

As possible as that may be, Terrell is downfield threat. Not necessarily a deep threat, but he isn't a guy who is built to catch bubble screens and get YAC. All our passing game consists of is bubble screens and dump offs, which works with chancellor and smith to a degree. I'm holding out hope that the coaches will trust whoever our qb is enough to actually throw the ball more than 10 yards past the line of scrimmage.

Fonzale Davis will play immediately next year.

Breaking news: Kelvin Gaines out four to six weeks

Exactly, unfortunately. And as Army of Dad said, we have enough problems getting guys to return from their injuries on time anyways. Big opportunity for Coleman to step up, especially if he really is a big east caliber big man. -
Christian Beard Midway (Waco) OL

It's one thing to have quantity, but we need quality as well. We've seen 6 lineman get significant snaps this year. 1 of those lineman is a senior and 4 of them are juniors. We have 8 other scholarship lineman, but who knows if they will be adequate replacements once guys like Johnson, Lemon, and Y'Barbo leave after next year. I think Beard would have a really good chance to come in, redshirt, and take one of the potentially 4 starting positions that will open after Mckinney and the three 4-year starters leave after the 2014 season. -

Received his sixth offer today from Toledo, per his twitter. -
And we were thinking we might've had a chance since he goes to the same school Chris Jones went to.

Fonzale Davis is electric and will be fun to watch next year as well. -
It is a pistol because there is a deep back behind DT. I agree with Harry. I didn't like it last year for that reason that you mentioned. They know we're running the ball and who it's going to (the deep back). It seems like we haven't run much zone read since DT ran the ball into our bench and scared us half to death that he might've broken his throwing hand against Ball St. DT has had a semi-injury plagued career but nothing out of the ordinary for a qb who has played five years of D1 ball. Our best rushing performances have been Ball St and Idaho where DT's zone read keeps were making the defense have to account for more options. We need to do more of that, whether it's DT doing it or Berglund and Mcnulty coming in for a few plays here and there to do it. Except for teams that run the veer (triple-option) offense and pro-style teams with pro talent like Alabame, the best rushing attacks in the country are zone-read based offenses that at least attempt to use their qb to keep the defense guessing. We don't have Marcus Mariota at qb, but DT has been effective when called upon.

It's not worth the "I told you so." It would serve them right, but I'd much rather have Dajon for that extra year. If Brock and Mcnulty can handle the starter and backup duties next year then we could redshirt Williams next year. I'm not sure how much Connor means would like that, but he'd just have to deal with it.
-
Great post. When we ran nickel last year buyers was the guy. We ran it more than Mac let off from what I remember. But Mac loves playing his experienced guys, upperclassmen, and returning starters. That makes it hard to know what we have on the bench. It also gives hope to freshman and sophomores on this roster who aren't getting much playing time.
-
Mac is setting up Dajon for a redshirt according to his presser today. He said he's been in and out of practice. Whether it's a legitimate injury or not, it seems as though the plan is for Dajon to get a redshirt. He also didn't travel with the team this last weekend. Not sure about Berglund though. A package for him would be nice, but I wouldn't expect it.
