  1. This. Please understand this people.
  2. Yup. Herbstreit was on 103.3 and he said he called Mack and Mack said he was in Miami recruiting.
  3. Exactly. If they get someone like Malzahn then we will have no chance. I think they get him IMO. 5 million dollars, with that recruiting base and that weak conference, no disrespect to OU, OSU, and Baylor, it's as good a job as you could ask for.
  4. Both former walkons. Gotta love our walkon program.
  5. Good thing for o-line is that we're only losing LaChris Anyiam and everyone else is coming back. Including the young guys who are developing.
  6. Completely agree. I thought the same thing, and that he read his blocks well. I like the idea of giving him handoffs, whether out of the backfield or fly sweeps (maybe wildcat, watch the last play), and for sure he looks like he could have great return skills. Definitely would be a good kickoff returner IMO, not everyone is suited for punt returner but he might be that too. Exciting player to have coming in.
  7. Military bowl, which we once thought was a possibility, is giving PS4s as gifts haha.
  8. Do yourself a favor and watch these. He's a football player. Not just an athlete or a track guy, but the kid plays tough. Watch the first play, play at 5:05, his kickoff coverage at 6:08, and the last play just to show his versatility. Will be an asset from day 1
  9. Not sure. Hopefully soon, but if Mac is just finding out today then it might be a little while.
  10. Congratulations Marcus! 1st team all conference in a 14 team league is darn impressive.
  11. Trice confirming on twitter that he made 1st team per Coach Mac. https://twitter.com/begreat8/status/410417847760715776
  12. Senior highlights are up. Very impressive. Kid can flat out scoot. Kid could help replace Brelan on offense and special teams. Absolute terror with the ball in the open field. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1133501/highlights/62182375
  13. Looks like walkons count towards a recruiting class if they were put on scholarship before playing on the team for 2 years as a walkon. Playing on the team two years or more as a walk on, like Tanner Smith, just counts them towards our 85 total, but not a recruiting class. So Kaydon Kirby and Blake Macek would count towards our 2014 class. Kenny Buyers might count too, since he spent 3 semesters as a walk on at UNT but just 1 football season. That would give us those three, plus Wallace and grayshirt Avery Fortenberry. Then that would leave us wih 20 spots, 15 of which we've already filled. As for my "backcounting" plan involving using at least two mid-term enrollees to count towards last class, since we only signed 23, this walkon rule of less than 2 seasons would likely mean that Darnell Smith and Lynrick Pleasant would've counted towards last class. That would give us 25, not 23, spots in the 2013 class filling it up and not allowing us to backcount. If all of those guys count, then we'll only be able to sign 5 more guys, or 4 according to Brett. But it would be worth it, since those walkon guys include: our leading receiver, punter, starting center, and starting cornerback.
  14. Got it. No, but he has narrowed his choice down between Missouri and Kansas. http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-D.J.-Williams-145610
  15. Interesting. Surprised they wouldn't move it to Monday like they did last week. Should be a good game regardless. Edit: Monday wouldn't make sense either. Then whoever would win would have just 4 days until the state championship game in cowboys stadium, which I don't think could get moved back.
  16. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the DT from Lufkin has ruled is out. I can't tell you if we will sign 27 kids, or if walkons put on scholarship count towards this class, but I just can't see us only signing 4 more kids. But hey, Vito has the inside info so if he says only 4 more than that's a definite possibility.
  17. Lol, yeah it's apparently a real thing. I couldn't tell you, unfortunately. I have some high school teammates and friends on the team, but I try not to get too intrusive when asking them about football. I do feel confident with some of the d-line guys. Some of the other schools who are after our d-line targets have been unsuccessful recruiting against us this recruiting season. Times are changing and we're starting to win some recruiting battles, so I like our chances of having a solid class no matter how many we sign.
  18. Also, there's another interesting loophole called blueshirting. Basically, it was started by Hal Mumme at New Mexico State and it allows coaches to ask certain commits to walk on, and then give them a scholarship during fall camp, before school actually starts. The catch is that the blueshirt player cannot have been "recruited," which means he cannot have been on an official visit to the school where he is being blueshirted, and cannot have had an official in-home visit with the coaches at the school where he is being blueshirted. http://www.presnapread.com/whats-a-blue-shirt-anyway/ http://knoxblogs.com/evanseleven/tag/blue-shirting/
  19. 99% sure Sunday games are illegal per UIL rules. Any and all UIL events are prohibited on Sundays. But yes, a Saturday game would give DeSoto just 4 days to rest, watch film, practice, and have a walk through day before playing Allen. Huge advantage for Allen. I really doubt they'd move it back to next Monday, but it would make things a little more fair.
  20. DeSoto beats Trinity 48-41. DeSoto scored and got a two-point conversion with just 6 seconds left after being down 40-41. They will face Allen next week in the state semifinals. http://www.star-telegram.com/varsity/m/#/2013/12/09/v-touch/5404679/live-euless-trinity-vs-desoto.html Edit: oops, had wrong link
  21. Thanks Plumm! I have limited procrastination this week with finals and all. But I'm spending it all keeping up with UNT sports
  22. Posted this in the recruiting forum Here's an article on backcounting. According to this, we can sign 27 this year, we just might not have 27 open scholarships. It's how Georgia was able to sign 33 last year. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2012/01/sec_learning_to_live_with_new.html I didn't think Blake Macek would be included in the signing class, I thought he just counted towards the 85 total scholarship players. Pretty sure putting walkons on scholarship doesn't count towards the signing class. I counted that we have 17 scholarship seniors and I counted 77 scholarship players currently on the team (after Cody Nelson has quit). That would be 25 open scholarships for next season, and that's before this season even ends. Some guys will most likely quit (injury or non-football related) or transfer out. We should be able to sign 27, at least 25.

  24. Eh, I don't think so, unfortunately. Pretty sure you're only allowed to host recruits on the sidelines for home games. Maybe they would be allowed VIP locker room access or something.
  25. Looks to be improved. It won't hurt to have some competition. Always like when JUCOs have 3 years to play 3. He's always been a good 7-on-7 type qb. Struggled when he got blitzed, which is pretty common for high school qbs. Showed some good escapability in the highlights. If we bring him in we'll have 5 qbs on scholarship, none of which will be seniors, all competing for the qb job. Should be very interesting whether we get him or not.
