Goree and Rutherford Carthage game update
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I completely share the sentiment. At the same time, it isn't like Goree is this hidden gem. He had a big junior year last year for a 3A state power. I hope he realizes that and doesn't fall for the bs that the big schools who come in late will give him. Also, he just turned 17 this year. Could you imagine if this was his junior year? Which it could be age wise. -
Yup. 45 yard td catch for Goree. Now 27 receiving tds on the year and a school record for receiving yards. Carthage up 21-7
-
Tee Goree gets Carthage on the board with a 33 yard td reception. Goree's 26th td catch of the year. Carthage leads 7-0 early on

New UNT Commit - Brandon Garner, Mansfield Timberview

Lol, good find. I hope these recruits and players realize that fans who criticize players also support them. You should post more in recruiting forum Aztec.- 43 replies

I think raising the bar is a better way of putting it. I didn't mean it as a slight either. Whoever wins the job, I really like the schedule. It's a throw them into the fire game against UT, where they can take some lumps and go out with little to lose like the Georgia game, then a winnable home game against a decent team in SMU, which I think will be much like our Ball State game from this year in terms of a measuring stick. Then we have a pad the stats game for our qb against Nicholls State, kind of like the Idaho game, followed by a tough but winnable road game against Indiana, which stacks up a lot like the Ohio game from this year. We can afford to be 1-3 in non-conference while building our new qbs confidence heading into conference play, but I think 2-2 should be what we shoot for with potentially a realistic shot at 3-1. Again, we'll have a pretty good idea of what we're looking at both at qb and as a team next year after the SMU game, maybe the UT game.

Whether or not we get Greer, can't help but think and hope this will light a fire under Dajon, Brock, and Mcnulty. The fact that the coaches would feel the need to offer a JUCO qb.

Yup. A walkon nonetheless, in Zach Paul. That Allen team is one of the most dominant high school football teams I've ever seen with maybe the best coaching staff in the state. He's an absolute weapon on special teams. He can kick it deep or kick a high pooch kick and pin the other team.

Watched him kick the last two years. Very consistent.

Reviewing the UNT 2014 projected roster (- seniors + commits)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree. But my original point in all that was that Willie Ivery would be better served at running back for us than receiver, where we have 4 other freshman coming in. But as someone said, he is coming in to play running back so that's good. -
I can't imagine how packed the DeSoto vs. Allen game is going to be.
-
State semifinal round. Carthage, led by two of our wide receiver commits Tee Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford, remains as well as DeSoto, with Mean Green commits defensive tackle Shaq Jackson and injured d-end Johnavohn Graham. DeSoto vs. Allen, Saturday December 13th, 2 pm at Mesquite Memorial stadium - In a rematch of last year's state semifinals, two 14-0 teams fight for a birth in the 5A division 1 state championship game. DeSoto had a short week after surviving against Euless Trinity on Monday, while Allen has had a normal full week to prepare coming of their win on Saturday. Could possibly be a shootout where either who makes a big stop or who has the ball last wins. Carthage vs. La Grange, Friday December 12th, 7:30 pm in Mansfield - Carthage comes in hot, but will be playing 13-0 La grange, featuring offensive tackle Zach Ledwick, a Texas A&M commit. Winner advances to the 3A division 1 state finals.

Favorite UNT Football moment
BillySee58 replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in Mean Green Football
That Jimmerson screen and run probably is my favorite UNT football moment. I know that win wasn't quite as significant as the ones we've seen this year, but that play itself has to be my favorite moment. The stand was awesome and it's hard to say that isn't my favorite, especially what was on the line. Houston game was electric, seeing them run out that game have me crazy chills. Another honorable mention is the 80 yard touchdown run by Brandin Byrd last year against South Alabama. That was one of the most beautifully blocked plays I have ever seen. We've had some great moments recently, and I like to think we're in for some more. Especially with the energy and passion that we play with at Fouts. -
An hour after our game kicks off is approximately when the other games are supposed to start. Like the gator and outback bowl iirc

Baker Mayfield transferring from Tech
BillySee58 replied to Green Crazy's topic in Mean Green Football
Apparently Tech is going to grant his release to any teams outside of the big 12. He really liked TCU out of high school but they didn't offer, so that was a possibility but not anymore. -
Reviewing the UNT 2014 projected roster (- seniors + commits)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
True. Forgot about those guys. We essentially got 4 running backs from the 2012 recruiting class, even though Tucker grayshirted and technically became part of the 2013 class. -

BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Exactly. Hopefully he's better, but it's kind of plan for the worst and hope for the best sort of thing. We're also only going to have 2 healthy scholarship running backs during spring ball. If I'm Mac and crew, I'm blowing very quick whistles any time Jimmy or Mark Lewis get the ball. Also could be a good chance for a guy like Erick Evans. -

BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yup. Also, take into account that we didn't sign any running backs last recruiting class and we may not be able to use any of our few remaining scholarships on a running back. Ivery may be our only running back recruit between the 2013 and 2014 signing classes. -

I think Ivery will be more of a running back than a receiver. Probably special teams specialist first and foremost for his freshman year though -
Smith talks about upcoming UNT visit, other recruiting tidbits
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Absolutely agree. Two Freshman all-conference players and honorable mention guys like Buyers are absolutely worth it. And yes, the guys we have committed are key. Especially those receivers who had breakout years like Fonzale Davis and Tee Goree. Those two will likely have the big boys knocking on their door saying come play for a Big 12 team. -

Yeah, when you're first team punt returner and kick returner it's kind of a foregone conclusion -

BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Another thing that is almost certain is that we will not have the full 85 scholarship players next season, even if we didn't have any current players transfer or quit. Unless Mac puts some more walkons on scholly and no one transfers or quits. -

He has to. Brett, you were right! Sorry for doubting you. Did not know that walkons put on scholarship after playing two years or less as walkons counted towards a signing class.
