  1. UTSA, us, and Rice all lose their qbs so the division could be wide open. I wouldn't be so quick to predict UTSA the pre-preseason favorite for next year's west division just because they have so much coming back. The only thing that really impressed me about that team Soza's ability to make plays with his legs and feet.
  2. We honestly could not have asked for a much more beatable opponent for a bowl game. Just have to get it done and not beat ourselves.
  3. I think cusp of national recognition is about right. We were ranked number 2 in the preseason mid-major poll coming into the season with a chance to unseat the then number 1 team in Creighton during the first game. Winning a tournament game would be national recognition alone.
  4. Here's a ballislife video with some Combs AAU footage. He comes in at about 1:35. http://ballislife.com/dallas-hoopers-the-next-level-baller-tournament-sick-highlights-myles-turner-alex-robinson-neal-twins-more/ Combs is unrated on both rivals and ESPN still. I found this website that has him ranked as a 3-star and the 140th best overall player in the country. http://ballislife.com/dallas-hoopers-the-next-level-baller-tournament-sick-highlights-myles-turner-alex-robinson-neal-twins-more/ It also has him listed at 6'6". I'm sort of in the belief with UNT90 that a player's listed height is usually taller than his actual height. Combs is usually listed at 6'7" so 6'6" makes sense. That's what he looks like. Never seen him play live, but from what most say he can step about 12 feet away from the basket and knock down a shot. Not sure how much small forward he'll play. Our situation at the 4 spot next year should be fun. Voss has been playing well lately and Combs and Wesley will be a step up athletically from him. They all bring some different skill sets but they'll be able to run the floor with all the guards we have and fit well if we run 3 and 4 guard sets.
  5. I think one of his high school coaches, maybe head coach, got hired on their staff. Also, happens all over the country, but especially in Florida recruits are notorious for making spur-of-the-moment commitments that they have no intention of keeping and closing off their recruitment. Very highly doubt this kid signs with FAU in February 2015. Just got me to thinking what it would be like to see us snag a 4-star commitment. Really like the way we are headed in recruiting and especially on the field.
  6. 2 joining. Don't forget ODU. Charlotte in 2015 will make it back to 14 teams.
  7. Just got a commitment from a 4-star, almost 5-star, junior running back with offers from Bama, Auburn, FSU, Florida, Georgia, LSU, okay you get it. Has offers from basically everyone. http://247sports.com/Recruitment/Jordan-Scarlett-22196/RecruitInterests He's got a long ways to go until 2015 signing day, but it makes me think. When will we see a 4-star commit to UNT? It doesn't have to happen, but can't help but ask why not North Texas?
  8. Good chance we'll play at MUTS and home against whoever takes USM's slot in the east (maybe WKU?).
  9. East Texas, in particular Sulphur Springs, has really grown on me this year. Y'Barbo, Macek, and Willie Ivery coming in next year. That region should continue to help us win football games.
  10. My 1st. I was 12 years old and in 6th grade for the last New Orleans bowl. Coincidentally I attended the cotton bowl that year.
  11. I am surprised that we haven't hit Houston hard this class, but we did get Connor Means from Deer Park and Kishawn McClain from Rosenberg. They just aren't very highly rated. We did however straight up raid East Texas this year. Maybe we raid Houston next year. We'll continue to recruit Houston. That much is all we know.
  12. Here's a link to his stats that were uploaded to maxpreps. http://www.maxpreps.com/athlete/jalen-adams/-LkGq_TwEeKZ5AAmVebBJg/gendersport/football-stats.htm 33 catches for 324 yards and 3 touchdowns his senior year. I like Adams too. He's an underrated recruit of ours because of the other receivers we have committed, but his highlights show some sweet skills (alliteration ftw).
  13. So, just a cumulative statistical update of our three receiver commits from Texas (Goree, Rutherford, and Fonzale Davis), now that the stats are final for the Carthage boys: 229 catches, 4443 receiving yards, and 62 receiving touchdowns. Merry Christmas guys! I bet whoever wins the qb competition will enjoy having these new toys to work with.
  14. Yeah, Dilonga and also forgot to mention Andy Flusche who could be a factor after winning scout team POTY at the banquet. One more name I would keep an eye on the d-line would be Lajaylin Smith. He played d-end in high school and is in a very similar situation to Chad Polk last spring when they moved Polk to defensive end. Similar body size as well. Just speculation on my part though.
  15. The record is not the problem. Having the wins and losses chalked up like you had is not the problem. You have to read between the lines of the games. Losing to SFA wasn't the problem. Losing by almost 40 at home was the problem. Don't care what they did last year. They're a good team, but not talented enough to be beating us by almost 40 at our place. Beating Portland wasn't the problem. Losing 2 games to Idaho and Columbia, and needing a tremendous TJ Taylor performance and overtime to win 1 game, not to mention having a big leg up athletically on all 3 of those teams, that tournament should've been all ours. Losing to BYU wasn't a big deal. Being down 40 late in the game with no semblance of an offense was. That top 20 team that you proclaimed BYU will be; they're 8-5 and give up tons of points. They're good and have played a pretty tough schedule this far, but that was not Duke or Arizona that was beating us by 40. Finally, getting wins against Wayland Baptist and Northwood at home was not the problem. Being down in both of those games and having each team try a game-tying 3 pointer in the last minute of the game is the problem. 7-5 looks cool and all. But the way we got there... And yes Kram, I do support the team and go to the games that I can. Was not able to make the Wayland game due to working heavy hours over the Christmas break between 3 jobs. Not trying to give you a boo-hoo excuse, just letting you know that not being there doesn't mean that game was excusable.
  16. The thing is, he'd actually be one of our bigger defensive ends. The defensive ends we have coming back are smaller, pass-rushing type defensive ends. Daryl Mason will likely be one of our starters, listed at 253 lbs (may be a little much be he is decent sized), and Chad Polk (listed at 223) and Quenton Brown (listed at 235) will probably compete for the other spot. Also our other defensive end with a little experience is Jarrian Roberts at 238 lbs. Washington might be our second biggest defensive end next year if we could land him.
  17. That Texas offer worries me. If the new staff keeps that offer extended and goes after him then it'll be tough to say the least. You gotta be able to recruit with the big dogs to get the big dogs.
  18. If we could get Washington that would give us 3 commits with Ivy League offers. Would join Christopher Miles and Jalen Montgomery.
  19. Ah, yes. Used to the role of being a conspiracy theorist, not conspiracy debunker.
  20. It's because of Mac's offense. Shorter qbs are much more likely to be effective in spread offenses than pro style offenses. Throwing from under center is a lot more of a challenge of looking over the o-lineman and getting the ball swatted down from d-lineman. Although that is what he thrived in at Carthage. Not saying I agree with this, just stating the likely philosophy of why we won't see shorter qbs recruited under Coach Mac.
  21. I don't worry about him either. He was a very good high school qb though. The ironic thing about comparing Bogenschutz and Rodge is that Bogenschutz threw to better receivers.
  22. Guyer didn't exist when Emmitt went to Ryan.
  23. You know, it would be really cool if Scott Cross made this happen. Especially if he was our head coach.
  24. 12-1 with the conference championship would've gotten us ranked. Wouldn't have been BCS busters (you need to be undefeated for that, no exceptions) but we would've been ranked going into the Liberty Bowl.
