What about the Outlaw drop against Ohio in 09? -
Fonzale at 82, Garner at 86. Also Xavier Washington is 65 and Nick Orr is 36

DT has the same long windup that Tebow got knocked for having by Draft analysts. Sometimes qbs have this windup throw as a result of a pitching background, which Tebow and DT both have, as well as the Stanford qb Hogan. It would surprise me to see him get an invite, not because of his size or college production, but that release. His arm strength and size warrant a look.

Bingo. Also, having those guys coming back will allow Skladany to continue to blitz and will allow the safeties to continue to play downhill. Losing guys hurts, but Skladany is the man and he will make the adjustments needed. Getting the hitters in there that will make the other team quit is what we need to find.

ESPN- Mack Brown to Resign (to Coach Bowl)
BillySee58 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
James Franklin is a hell of a recruiter. Although he does have a player(s) rape case still going on at Vanderbilt right now. It's been held pretty under the wraps because a lot of Vanderbilt alums in the law field are trying to not publicize something that would give their alma mater a bad rap. Not sure if that hurts his candidacy or not. He's a good coach too. He's just a little on the weird side. But yes, I like our chances against that team trying to break in a new coach. -

That's fine with me. He was able to raid the city of Miami of players while the U was down. Other than that he's an above average recruiter and coach. He just isn't that homerun hire that scares me like I feel Briles, Malzahn, or Saban would be. -

Art Briles and Jim Mora have both publicly taken their names out of consideration for the Texas HC job. Briles would've been a good fit because he is one of the best qb recruiters/evaluators in the country and if Texas has a good qb they are a good football team, with the recruiting base and name that they have. Someone high up with Texas (not sure who) flew out to an undisclosed location and interviewed Charlie Strong of Louisville. This is only interesting and relevant because if Texas is still in this state as a program next year, then we have a legitimate shot at beating them. They have no stability at the qb position and unless they get someone like Saban or Mahlzahn then I really believe we will be able to have a chance. -

Former Guyer standout plans to enroll at UNT (will be updated)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yeah, Mustafa is finally starting to put some meat on his bones, aside from muscle. Hitting up that victory dining hall. The tough thing for Mustafa during fall camp is that the first few weeks in pads are also usually during Ramadan. It was very tough on him and our other Muslim players. They couldn't eat or drink water while the sun was up, and they lost a lot of weight in the first few days in pads. Hope Mustafa does good in the spring, that way he won't need a killer fall camp performance to get in the rotation.- 32 replies

I can't help but wonder if one of them is Conner Crane. He isn't playing at Stanford but I'm not sure a high school valedictorian would want to leave a school like Stanford just because he wasn't seeing the field. The other two I'm suspecting/hoping are Dominic Ramacher and Ellis Jefferson. Ramacher was recruited to Ok St as a linebacker but he could fit in our scheme as a tight end/fullback like Drew Miller was. Jefferson is a receiver who redshirted at Arizona State.

UNT landed defensive tackle transfer Dan Kottman (SDSU/Guyer)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
It's still pretty disconcerting, not because of the rehab to get him back on the field, but because of the risk once he gets back on the field getting blocked by those 300+ pound boys. Hopefully it heals up good and he can just be in the rotation and we can keep him fresh, but playing a lot of snaps undersized is very taxing on the shoulder. A lot of torque pressure play after play makes these shoulder injuries sometimes nagging ones. I believe Mcdorman and Horton had to quit because of shoulder injuries.- 28 replies

UNT landed defensive tackle transfer Dan Kottman (SDSU/Guyer)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
If he can prove that his initial redshirt was due to injury (2013, which it was) and that he had to sit out another year because of injury (2014 potentially) then he can get the hardship. Even though he would have to sit out 2014 regardless, he can prove that he would've sat out the year anyways because of his injury then he might get granted an extra year.- 28 replies

To get a medical waiver you need to prove that injury caused the initial redshirt and injury prevented him from playing a seperate year (next year). Even though he couldn't play next year anyways, he still might be able to get a medical waiver for 2014.- 32 replies

Because Kottman was injured during his initial redshirt year (last year) he can apply for a medical redshirt (hardship waiver) and say he was injured all 2014 too. If he does this then he could have 3 years to play starting in 2015, instead of just 2. But the injury gives him no shot at being eligible next year.- 32 replies

So are we officially going to UTEP, UTSA, and Rice next year?
-
Why can't that be correct? Those were his stats coming in. Counting the bowl game he finished with 16 tds and 13 ints.

No, doesn't give him a chance to play immediately but he will have a chance at getting three years of eligibility starting in 2015 rather than just two which is what he should have based on his grade. Should have a good chance to replace Alex Lincoln at the 3-technique in 2015.- 28 replies

I would like to see us take a step forward and get a commit or two in the spring, before or while the kids are in spring ball. We normally don't see our first commit until the summer. The earlier you get commits the more time you have to focus on other recruits. Not to mention those early commits often will recruit while at camps and at 7-on-7 tourneys over the summer and such.

Derek Thompson is a Mean Green Hero
BillySee58 replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree. That's why I said he has more than just stats going for him. Although I wouldn't be so quick to brush off the talent DT had to throw to. Chancellor and Smith were very good and Harris was a solid slot. Maybe the freshman turn out good next year, but these receivers did their job of getting a lot of YAC (chancellor and Harris) and making some sweet acrobatic catches (Smith). Those guys got open all year, and the line gave DT time all year. We were able to surround DT with the cast to have a successful passing game and it helped him lead us to 9 wins. We just didn't always have to throw it 40 times a game to win, as you said. -
Thought he called a great game in the second half. Loved the uptempo and mixing in the qb runs, as well as hitting the short stuff to set up the long stuff. That's when DT is at his best, and I'm glad Chico called the plays to DT's strengths.

If statistics are used as the primary factor in whether or not he will get in, then if the next qbs come in and do better than 14/11 td-int ratio and 24.5K yards a year then it might not help his case from a statistical standpoint. But he has a lot more going for him than just statistics. -

I think giving it a little time is what will determine whether he is or not. If the team struggles to replace and we cannot replicate the success of this season then that would honestly improve his chances.
