Pretty sure if the recruit calls the coach then it's okay.

Orr is not this out-of-the-world prospect but he's much more polished than the d-backs we have committed. I think Ivery would be more of the return guy in this class, since White may have been asked to do that role. I think Fonzale should be given a chance to try and return at least kickoffs, because he reads his blocks very well and has very good vision. We're just going to have to agree to disagree on White's ability to play qb on a D1 level, regardless of conference. 5'6" is just too short, save for maybe a wildcat play or two. 6'0" qbs are undersized but can get it done. Qbs who are half a foot shorter than guys who are undersized is just too much IMO.

They might be thin at DL, but Desmond Jackson and Malcolm Brown (the d-tackle) are one of the strengths of their team and will be a heavyweight bout against Y'Barbo, Kirby, and Lemon. As for Gray, I can't help but think getting over 1200 carries in high school didn't attribute to his injury. He's very questionable to return for the start of the season. As is the return for qb David Ash, due to lingering concussion issues that kept him out almost the whole year. I love that we return Jones and Buyers, not to mention Whitfield and Chad Davis who could make an impact as well. They will allow Skladany to dial up the blitzes and let the safeties play downhill. also think Freddie Warner will cover a lot of ground as a center-fielder type free safety if he can stay healthy. If we can keep the running game in check and force Ash (if he plays), Swoopes, or Heard to beat us with their arm(s) I just can't see them blowing us out.

Offensive lineman from Lancaster high school. We've offered but apparently OU, OSU, TCU, and Tech have as well. http://247sports.com/Player/Dominique-Hearne-34196 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Dominique-Hearne-143698

Defensive back Josh Butler from West Mesquite, holds an early offer from us and claims an offer from A&M as well. Would be a hard pull if that offer is legitimate. Physical cornerback, and at least the third cornerback we've offered this class (Nafees Lyon and Nate Brooks) http://sports.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Josh-Butler-152900;_ylt=Arx9vqC6uQA4YFDNB9Vwgd9GPZB4 http://northtexas.scout.com/a.z?s=353&p=8&c=1&nid=7308462 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1962580/athletics

It's more for the return game and the fact that White would probably get handoffs out of the slot and be utilized in the pass game. Ivery can do both of those things in addition to being more of a running back with being about 2 inches taller and about 15-20 lbs heavier. Also having two legitimate outside receivers committed in Tee Goree and 6'5" O'Keeron Rutherford allows us to put Fonzale in the slot. Fonzale shouldn't have to play an undersized outside receiver like Brelan did because of those guys along with Kidsy on the outside. Not to mention having another solid slot in Jalen Adams committed. Basically we have the outside receiver position covered which allows us to have the inside receiver position covered by Davis and Adams. Ivery then covers the return ability that White could've brought. Only thing White can do on a football field that those guys can't is throw the football IMO.

UNT vs. UT 2014 UT Fans ready for STRONG showing agin UNT
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Haha, yeah. And I think it escalated more quickly to you just because you know the song and dance that often happens on this board where a minor disagreement or jab goes on for pages on end. But yeah, I'll be damned if that happens while talking about freakin UT. I hope that occurs less on this board as our success and overall happiness around the program improves. But seriously, the main argument on this board right now is whether or not we can beat UT in Austin. And the reason why this is even a legitimate argument is because we are coming off a 9 win season in which we played a then-top 10 team from the SEC in the Georgia Bulldogs to a 21-21 tie in the third quarter. We could be arguing about a lot worse things. But yes, Mac has completely got the players to buy into the idea that there are no moral victories no matter who you play and that anything less than a win is disappointing. He's always gotten us up for these "money" games and we've come closer each time to winning (41-0 Alabama, 41-14 LSU, 35-21 K-State, then the Georgia game). K-State may not have technically been a money game, but you get the point. They really do believe they have a chance, so there's no harm in us believing in this optimism since this era has already proven to not be one of false hope.- 54 replies

UNT vs. UT 2014 UT Fans ready for STRONG showing agin UNT
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The amount of UT talk has been way too high and the only scenario I'd ever be okay with us talking this much about them would be if we end up in the Big 12 with them (not holding out much hope on that one). I don't have anything personally invested in these talks other than the fact that they're our first opponent next year.- 54 replies

I think once Ivery committed that sealed the playmaker/athlete spot. White is a good player, but we just have more pressing needs with limited spots than athlete. I think ultimately the fact that we are a public school vs. TCU and SMU being private schools will put us over the top.

Oh wow. For some reason I thought he was a sophomore. Yeah, at the very least it would be cool to see him walkon. But still hoping that we can convince Nick to come play here.

The way you get responded to for giving knowledgable insight is a Grade-A example of why so many posters (including those who know what they're talking about) are pushed away from this board.- 54 replies

I can't imagine us not making room for Nick Orr. As for Desmon White, I don't think he's a better receiver than any of our receiver commits and I don't think he would be a better return man than Ivery or Fonzale.

The big logos are decals, but helmet stickers usually refers to the stickers that you earn for making plays. Like UGA's bone stickers or Ohio State's buckeye stickers.

Oh okay. Looks like he was class of 07 also. Don't remember him but that's before I followed the team closely. I started following the team after my freshman year of high school when Dodge signed two kids from my school in 08 (Joe Hawthorne and Jeremi Mathis).

Who will be UNT's team leaders next season?
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Haha, no that was Cooley. Less than a month until signing day. At least we don't have to wait any longer than that to know if we get him or not. -
Penson was 07. Who's DeSoto?

Who will be UNT's team leaders next season?
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Maybe, but it doesn't mean he wasn't a team leader (sorry for the double negative). Sounds likely to me. Don't worry so much about the responsibilities of being a team captain, but rather focus on leading the offensive unit. -
Yeah, one started at MLB for DeSoto this year as a sophomore. He's a little undersized but I hope we get in on him early. He's about the same size Zach was as a high school sophomore, but Zach was actually on JV as a sophomore. Let's just get both of them.

'14 offensive lineman Daniel Keith (Al)
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Was Obi signed out of high school? He went to Bishop Alemany with a cousin of mine, but I never saw his name show up on any recruiting websites. Just to clarify, I'm not saying we should ditch Texas. But recruiting in state should come easier which will allow us to broaden our horizons and add a few out of state guys to our big boards. Whether we get them or not will in no way break our class, but it could help make it. -

Who? I don't think we've gotten any outside those 3 states, as far as straight out of high school, non walkons outside Mcnulty. Edit: I see Dickey brought in a couple o-linemen from outside the region (Kansas and LA area). That's my point though. Things are changing. We're finally winning games against non-sunbelt opponents. Even when we were winning the Sunbelt it didn't mean much to recruits. This year, having success in CUSA, we finished 5th in the country out of all non-AQ schools in the country this year. Not saying we're going to pluck kids from SEC schools, but we are starting to actually get a brand now. At the least I think we're only going to see us offer more of these kids, which we appear to be doing. Getting any of them is contingent on our first impression and their interest. -
Gameday is usually at the site of a season kickoff game, like the Chick Fila Kickoff Classic (ACC vs. SEC).
-
Not sure when we offered or if we're still actively recruiting this kid (we may be done at offensive line) but we offered according to Rivals and 247. http://rivals.yahoo.com/basketballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Daniel-Keith-148764;_ylt=AniwasDY0ppMwGiPg2IwGJxHPZB4 http://247sports.com/Player/Daniel-Keith-29256 I love that we offered a kid from Alabama. We also offered a kid from the Atlanta area this class and have an offer extended to a kid in the 2015 class from North Carolina. I hope we offer some kids from places like Memphis and Florida too. Offering these kids doesn't mean we're putting our hearts and souls into getting them and recruiting those areas. Just means we're evaluating more areas and if these kids are interested then awesome. If not, no harm was done in offering an out of state kid and inviting him to a junior camp, talon talent, Friday night light camp, etc. Keep an eye on our out of state recruiting for 2015, now that we've turned some heads in the south with a good performance in CUSA, a competitive game with Georgia, and 9 wins and a bowl victory. I think we nab a commit or two from a state not named Texas, Louisiana, or Oklahoma.

Appalachian State got votes after beating Michigan in 07. They deserve votes after 3 straight national championships IMO.

Who will be the 2014 North Texas starting QB ?
BillySee58 replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm all for sending a few colleges down to FCS, considering all these teams are making the move up. EMU has the longest bowl drought with no end in sight and Idaho is maybe the hardest job in the country, as you said. Especially with Boise State becoming what they have become. As for ULM, maybe they should be but their recent success and wins against SEC schools will likely prevent it.
