  1. I don’t know. Before last year I probably would’ve said “after we win a game in the NCAA tournament.” Usually that puts you on the map to people who follow college basketball whereas just winning conference games alone does not. I’m sure it has to some, but apparently it has not to a lot of these vocal fans on opposing boards and such.
  2. The big 3 of CUSA West (UNT, UAB, and La Tech) have 14 CUSA wins while the entire east division has 9. Looking at things down the road, ironically the path to the CUSA Tournament final might be easier for the 2 seed in the West than it will be for the 1 seed. For example, if the standings ended as they currently are with La Tech at 1W, UAB at 2W, and us at 3W, UAB would get to play the 1E team in the Semis while La Tech would have to play us (assuming we beat the 2E team). Not necessarily something it will do us any good to worry about, but just sort of shows the lopsided nature of the conferences. Of course, as CMJ said, we don’t really know if teams like ODU or Charlotte might actually push the perceived top teams but we it’s also possible they fizzle out when they start playing more games. Hope we can be a part of that fizzle this week.
  3. One of the best unexpected treats of the Mccasland era has been watching opposing fan bases go into meltdown mode after we beat them. Very rarely is it “well, we lost to a good team who made it to the round of 32 last year” but very often we get stuff like what you’re referencing. Bonus points for how many fans are insistent that they coincidentally had an off shooting day against us. Nothing to do with going against a top defense. Just bad luck teams always seem to find against us.
  4. Man, what a great win. Still feeling good about it. Also really nice to see a season high 7 assists from Tylor Perry. Him setting up other players is huge for our chances of going far as teams try to take him away.
  5. I appreciate you using sometimes instead of usually, because you could have. What a pal!
  6. Great win but if only we hadn’t lost to Buffalo amirite?
  7. Solid looking half. Still gonna need stones to close it out.
  8. That’s coincidence. Not irony.
  9. That was a great job down the stretch. Murray with his best shooting game of the year, Abou with the best game of his career, Perry with the big shot making, and Bell with the huge defensive play at the end.
  10. Let’s be honest, this is a very even matchup talent wise
  11. They have done a really good job forcing it out of Perry’s hands. That cat is out of the bag for us. I expect most teams will follow that recipe as well.
  12. Abou has been outstanding today. 8 and 7 already.
  13. Bell’s CUSA shooting struggles continue. 0-4 from the field today, 5-26 from the field in conference play.
  14. I do think about this too. How much does this have to do with him (possibly/likely?) doing things in recruiting ethically and by the letter of the law? I’ll take conference titles and NCAA tournament noise with no violations over sanctions.
  15. https://meangreensports.com/news/2022/1/11/mens-basketball-unt-basketball-youth-ticket-promotion.aspx They have brought back the Youth basketball jersey promotion. “DENTON, Texas – North Texas fans aged 8th grade and below can receive a free ticket to any UNT men's and women's basketball game for the remainder of the 2021-22 season by wearing their youth basketball jersey to the Super Pit on game day. This promo will run at the ticket office prior to the scheduled game. Adults coming with the kids must purchase a ticket at normal price.“
  16. This is what I keep coming back to with our recruiting. It just doesn’t feel like it has taken much of a step forward from when Mccasland got here. He is still really good at identifying talent with guys like Perry and Scott, but those guys also didn’t have High Major programs that we had to out recruit in order to land them. We definitely punch above our weight on the court but that has not been the case in recruiting. It really feels like Mccasland can coach with the best of them. I do think if we could recruit at the level of UAB and WKU, Mccasland could take that caliber talent and have pushing to get into the top 25.
  17. If we end up spending most of those spots on D1 transfers then Signing Day on February 2nd is not relevant to those guys.
  18. What a great pickup he has been by Mccasland. Really good find. It’s very possible he ends up in our closing lineups in most of our games the rest of this season.
  19. Can’t imagine it’s that deep. There’s not enough attention being paid to even look that deeply into things or feel slighted.
  20. It will be a heavy dose of Bell and Scott to close. Some Abou minutes but I doubt he will be in the closing lineup today
  21. Bell getting ripped time and time again. Have to get the reeled in.
  22. I doubt he plays much in the last 10 minutes. Not his kind of matchup
  23. Right. But when he said one was taxpayer money (Scholarship plus NIL) and one was corporate profits (salary plus bonus) in response to you he was lumping the scholarship and NIL amounts together as taxpayer money. Even if you grant scholarships as taxpayer money, the NIL deal comes from company profits. Which makes your example accurate, even before you lifted back the facade of companies only giving but not taking. The bonuses (NIL deal in example A, Cash performance bonus in example B) in both examples come from company profit. I don’t see any actual argument here on why an athlete’s market should be capped at the arbitrary tuition/room and board set by the University.
  24. They absolutely made sure Perry was not going to be the one to get the shot off. We need to come out of this offseason with at least one more legit double digit scorer. Then hope Jones and McBride take steps forward as well. That would be an even scarier team, provided the defense plays like it has over Mccasland’s tenure.
  25. NIL deals are taxpayer money? I didn’t sign up for this!
