Updated UNT FB 2014 Recruiting Commitment Listing
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Fort was the only grayshirt added, on campus this semester and on scholarship. I guess he'd technically be first chronologically. If a guy from this class grayshirted he would start college next spring and be a part of the 2015 signing class. -
Updated UNT FB 2014 Recruiting Commitment Listing

We have 7 3-star recruits. -
Completely agree. Both have been leaders and spokesmen for this class. Same with Jalen Montgomery to name another. Cool thing about getting guys locked up early is that they bond well before getting to campus. Hopefully we'll see more commits early in coming years.

Got that defensive tackle! Paging Eulessismore to get us the scoop.

Looking Back: UNT Quarterback Derek Thompson

Yeah, we should keep him. If he takes a visit to arkansas then things will get very scary.
-
Yup https://twitter.com/_tgoree_/status/426050707737677824 He then retweeted two people saying UNT had a better record than arkansas and that we can produce better than our neighbors to the east. We knew he was a big time recruit. If we can keep Goree at UNT then it will be the biggest sign of our recruiting improving this cycle.

Some services have Jon Grahm listed as a DT. He isn't though. Also, no Avery Fortenberry still? He's part of the signing class. -
CUSA Basketball Power Rankings (1/22/14)
BillySee58 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I really do think we can beat them, especially at home. Our team has made some strides this year but we need to start putting these games away and actually playing well down the stretch. We're a lot closer to the teams at the top than the teams you have ranked by us, that's for sure. Just have to prove it. -
CUSA Basketball Power Rankings (1/22/14)
BillySee58 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Basketball
UTEP and MTSU are the teams that are starting to get hot and stand out to me. I think they both finish in the top 4 and UTEP wins the regular season title. They're really starting to play well and get their feet underneath them after losing their leading scorer in that betting scandal. They're as long and athletic as it gets. -
Part of that is because there are just many more 2-stars and unranked players. Only about 30 kids get a 5-star rating each class. Here's an article by SI that explains it.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/andy_staples/04/23/nfl-draft-prospects-as-recruits/index.html Guys will always slip through the cracks and become something on the field. In the broad scheme of things it's a simple numbers thing. Individually it's guys working their tails off and reaching potential that many coaches didn't think they had.

*Coleman. That was for you UNTFan23. I can't stand that either. Maybe it's just us. As for Odoh, he was an extremely raw big man who barely knew any English. I just can't imagine Benford developing him had he been given the chance. I'd rather not turn this into another hate-on-Benford thread but no player has really progressed under him, and some have notably regressed, as discussed on here.

Walker's brother was my orientation leader. Walker was a 3-year starter at Richland. He's a little guy but he's really athletic. Good to see he made the team, especially after being out of the game the last two years (besides intramurals where he dominated). A kid we should all root for.

Whatever Happened To Jeffrey Wilson
BillySee58 replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Never seen him play live like I think you have, but I completely agree on everything you said from watching his film. Spot on assessment. Here it is. 2A competition, but still impressive. http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1579559/jeffery-wilson -
Yup. Also 3* on scout.

That's why Alabama, the team seemingly on top of the college football world, lost to A&M, Auburn, and OU. They made Bama play in space rather than in a phone booth like they wanted. -
UNT 2014 Verbal Commitment List (Updated Feb. 2nd, 2014)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yes, that's why this spring/summer should be big for us. Then of course another good season. Also, Avery Fortenberry should be added to the class. His grayshirt was confirmed was confirmed by Vito and he is on campus now, so he will be part of the class . -
Technically we have two o-linemen in this class. Avery Fortenberry grayshirted but is now on campus and on scholarship. He counts towards this class and still has redshirt eligibility. Looks like the coaches are going to stand pat with Fortenberry and Miles. It seems that we passed on Will Copa and Christian Beard (two linemen we had offered). Beard committed to Toledo and Copa committed to Texas State. Signs pointed to the theory that we basically stopped recruiting them. We thought Chico was going to visit Copa after he tweeted he was going to visit a recruit in Austin. It has been revealed now that he was visiting Tillman Johnson.

MGB: UNT lands Tillman Johnson after weekend visit

Chico was recruiting Tillman. Chico tweeted about going to Austin to visit a recruit in Austin and we didn't know who. Looks like that mystery was solved. -

It really is. -
Team that should finish in the upper half of CUSA. They had a solid nonconference run including wins against Nebraska and a very down North Carolina this year. They're 1-2 in conference so they aren't particularly standing out, but the two losses were to two of the top 5 teams in CUSA IMO (MTSU and UTEP). They have one of the best guards in the conference in combo guard Corey Frazier. 5th in CUSA in both scoring and assists. Very dangerous player. Other stud is CJ Washington; a 6'8" combo forward who can score inside and out. Should also be a good challenge on the boards. They have some very good rebounders including guards and good height. Good team but winnable game, especially at home.

We used to scrimmage Allen every year. They still do. Carter backed up Matt Brown their junior and senior years back when I was a sophomore/junior. Carter actually led them to the state championship in 08 when Brown went down. But other than that he's pretty much been a hard-luck backup. Good to see he's getting a shot. That being said, if he is UTSA's qb I like our chances.

Xavier Washington* Dominique Barnett is another guy we could pursue if we really want another corner. Both Barnett and Wagner are physical corners who can play on the far side of the field like Davis likely would have. Andrew Jones (our corner commit) looks like a better fit on the short side of the field, pressing the receivers.
