  1. Tulane 64 ODU 70
  2. Marshall 77 La Tech 98
  3. USM 60 ECU 46 ECU was up at the half. Still can't buy a win for them. 0-5 in conference.
  4. Charlotte 69 Rice 71 Big first conference win for Rice.
  5. Looks like Andrew has some new buds to argue around in a circle with. Welcome to the basketball board Ben, even though I've seen you post here a few times. Man, really thought if we could keep Shawn Jones under control then we would have a great shot. This conference, man. If our team was constantly playing to the level that it should be we would easily be a top 4 team in this conference along with USM, La Tech, and UTEP. It's frustrating. Especially knowing that our roster has 7 guys who will be seniors next year including guys like TJ, Jordan, Voss, and Chris Jones. Next year should be one of those opportunity years and it's pretty frustrating knowing that our coach will be one who we have done nothing but under perform under his tenure. You can sort out the blame wherever you want, but we just have not been able to match our talent and our success since Benford has been here.
  6. They don't have all of our recruits listed, or evaluated. Maybe they evaluated them once over the summer but didn't bother to re-evaluate the kids like they do for big name commits. Not to mention we can't have very many recruits this class. We get 25 scholarships per class, and in this class: 3 of them are walkons put on scholarship so they obviously aren't rated, 1 is an FBS transfer who doesn't count towards our class rating, 1 is a grayshirt who doesn't count towards our class rating, and our 2 juco guys weren't evaluated. Only 10 of our 16 high school commits are listed on 247. Our recruiting class is solid quality wise but not so much quantity wise. Unfortunately both go into class rankings and we'd be hurting quantity wise even if all of our commits were listed. If you're going to complain about the class at least watch some film and do a little research on these commits (offer lists, evaluations from different recruiting websites, etc).
  7. J Will just needs one more bucket to get to 900 points on his career. Solid first half, even if the end was a little shaky.
  8. First time I've ever seen Brett type text. Thanks for the update! Yeah, Jones is a tough draw with or without Gaines. I always though Jones was about the most evenly matched with Tony Mitchell athletically and length-wise than we ever saw out of anyone in the belt. Rubit was a tough draw too. Hope we can contain Jones tonight.
  9. Coach Ryan Walters in there. He's the one who got us the DeSoto boys (Shaq Jackson and Jon Graham). Maybe he can get us another belt line boy in X. Hope we can keep Walters for a while. Man I really like him as a coach/recruiter.
  10. The pick Harry posted from twitter has him wearing a fedora. So basically he's a UNT lock. Fits in perfectly in Denton. Also, not just saying this because his cousin posts here, but that's pretty awesome to have such a supportive cousin. Pretty cool IMO.
  11. The Brock transfer didn't have anything to do with it. He opens a scholarship spot on the team (85 max) but not for our class (25 max counting scholarship transfers, grayshirts, and walkons put on scholarship after playing less than 2 seasons on the team as a walkon. If we could sign players based on how many open scholarships we have open on the team then we could sign 7 more guys, in addition to our commits. We can only sign 2 more guys, in addition to our commits, whether Brock had transferred or not because of the 25 per class max. Where that Berglund departure may come into play is for next year's class. We only have 17 scholarship seniors for next year, so if we had the full 85 on scholarship then we would only have 17 spots for next class. If we have 80 guys on scholarship after signing day then that's 5 more spots for next class, so a total of 22 spots. The chances of 3 more guys quitting or transfer before signing day 2015 is all but inevitable (just the way college football goes, so we will likely be able to sign 25 guys next year despite only having 17 scholarship seniors. Edit: Kottman is transferring as a walkon. Won't count toward's next year's class.
  12. Very true. I could easily see them having video ratings. They could also maybe have viewer video ratings. Maybe not though. Rivals tried letting website visitors, who were logged into yahoo accounts, rate players on their rivals page and it wasn't a disaster but they took it away.
  13. Bingo. I also wonder if we'll go after any Florida kids this upcoming class. Not that we need to, but I'm sure he has relationships with a lot of coaches and players over there. Very impressive how quick he built a relationship with TJ Tauaalo over here though.
  14. Also, another new recruiting website is one called signingday.com. It's pretty terrible and needs A LOT of work but maybe in a couple years or so it starts to become respectable. As of now it pretty much rates every big school commit at least a 3-star, but something ridiculous like over 800 kids are 4-stars or higher. Anyways, here's our page. It only has Willy Ivery listed and he's 79.5, which is a 3-star and just .5 points short of a 4-star rating (80). https://www.signingday.com/colleges/42901/north-texas/ It also has a few teams in our conference like Rice with just 0 commits. Southern miss has the most commits listed with 5, and 4 of them are 4-stars, so yeah, the website is pretty crappy right now. https://www.signingday.com/teams/default.aspx
  15. Connor Means (ESPN), Fonzale Davis (ESPN, 247), Trevor Moore (ESPN), Brandon Garner (ESPN), Jalen Adams (ESPN), Tee Goree (Scout, Rivals, 247), and Willy Ivery (Rivals, scout). Not to mention Shaq Jackson is a 5.4 on Rivals, and it takes 5.5 to be a 3-star. Andrew Jones and O'Keeron Rutherford are both close the 3-star status as well on 247, with both being rated 78 with 80 being a 3-star. Throw in Caleb Chumley (Rivals, ESPN, 247) and Xavier Washington (Scout) and we could potentially have two more. Also, check out ESPN and definitely 247 for recruiting websites. ESPN passed Scout up about 6 years ago and 247, the newest website, has passed both of them up in the last year or so and has become very good competition with rivals. ESPN and scout are still very good with coverage though.
  16. Jalen Montgomery said on twitter that Jalen Adams and Fonzale Davis did take their official when he did. So that rules them out for blueshirt candidacy, which I don't think was ever going to happen in the first place. Hopefully we have room for two more and we get Chumley and X with those two spots!
  17. We will need them both big-time against Shawn Jones at MTSU. That guy is too dang athletic for Voss to be guarding him, while giving up 2". Also, Jordan Williams watch. He needs 11 points to get to 900 on his career.
  18. I asked myself the same question. About this one and the A&M game. Hopefully the former. 22-72 is pitiful though, even if we did have a lot to do with it. We should do the same to MUTS though. Especially if Coleman and Gaines can contain Shawn Jones. That guy is a monster. Kind of a poor man's Tony Mitchell, w/o the ball handling skills and 3-point shooting ability.
  19. Yes Harry, can't say I've been here as long as you guys (been loosely following the team for a while) but it sure does look like we could be headed into the golden era. Especially for football. The beauty about the walkons on your team that earn scholarship are just that. They earned it and proved to be worth it. Some high school signees end up being busts, unfortunately. But the walkons you have on scholarship are the furthest thing from a bust. X and Chumley would be huge. We're starting to win recruiting battles and hopefully we can continue to win more.
  20. I'm not one for delaying the inevitable
  21. So here's the situation. We currently have, at most, 63 current scholarship players on campus. This includes 4 guys from this signing class: an early enrollee/early high school grad (QB Connor Means), a grayshirt (OL Avery Fortenberry), and the two JUCO transfers (LB AJ Smith and QB Josh Greer). You are allowed to sign 25 players per signing class. This includes: high school signees, JUCO signees, FBS scholarship transfers, and walkons put on scholarship before playing two seasons on the team as a walkon. So if a walkon plays just one season for a team, or none (we'll get to that later) as a walkon before being put on scholarship, then that former walkon counts toward the 25 man signing class that upcoming signing day. You can sign more than 25 if you did not use all 25 scholarships in the previous class. For example, if you signed 23 kids (2 under 25) then you could sign 27 (2 over 25) the next year as long as at least 2 of those 27 enroll at mid-term/the spring semester, when their signing day occurs (like Connor Means and our JUCO guys). I thought we would be able to do that because I thought we only signed 23 kids last year, but we actually signed 25 counting Darnell Smith and Lynrick Pleasant, 2 walkons put on scholarship after just spending one season at UNT as walkons. So just 25 for this class. According to Vito, we only have one spot left. By my count we should have two but I trust Vito. I just don't know where one of the spots went. We have 16 high school kids, 2 JUCOs, 1 grayshirt, and 1 FBS transfer if everyone committed signs. To my knowledge we only put 3 walkons who played less than 2 years at UNT on scholarship (Kenny Buyers, Blake Macek, Kaydon Kirby). Tanner Smith was put on scholarship as well, but he played his first two seasons plus his redshirt year as a walkon, so he shouldn't count. I must be missing a walkon or some grayshirt I don't know about, because that still leaves us with 23 guys in our class right now. So I don't know why we only have 1 spot left. If we do in fact have just 1 spot left then we have two options to sign more than 1 more guy. We can A) Grayshirt a member of this signing class and have him enroll next spring or Blueshirt a kid. What blueshirting is, is where you get a commit to walkon at the beginning of fall camp, then you put him on scholarship before school actually starts. He doesn't end up paying any tuition, and he doesn't count towards his original signing class. He would count towards the next year's signing class (2015 class in this case). The catch is that the player cannot have been recruited which means he cannot have had an in-home visit with the coach and he cannot have gone on an official visit to the school where he is blueshirting. The only commits who have not taken an official to UNT are, to my knowledge receivers Fonzale Davis and Jalen Adams and kicker Trevor Moore. So these guys could be blueshirt eligible. I could see a player with no other listed offers like Johnavahn Graham (also coming off broken leg surgery) being asked to grayshirt. Grayshirts are more likely IMO, but Blueshirts are far more intriguing. Anyways, according to Vito we just have 1 spot left, so we would sign 16 high school kids on signing day that will enroll in the fall, (since Means, Fortenberry, and the two JUCOs are already enrolled). Add those 16 to the 63 players on campus right now and we have just 79 players on scholarship for next fall if no one else transfers out or quits, which is very unlikely. My point is that 79 is 6 players shy of the 85 scholarship max, so we have the open scholarships to blueshirt guys. Sorry for the post length
  22. You're allowed a max of 85 players on your roster on scholarship. It opens up a spot there. You're allowed 25 signees per class, that's our concern as far as how many we can sign and Berglund's departure does nothing to that number.
  23. He wasn't on the raiders the last few years, forgot why (maybe cut), but he did start for them for a whole. Yeah he was a good player, unfortunately he tragically passed away a couple months ago.
  24. A home and home would give us either 5 home games this year, if we were slated to be the away team this year and the home team next year, or just 4 home games next year, if we were slated to be the home team this year and the away team next year. I'd prefer a weak FBS school as well, and I'm sure we tried, but we can't afford home and homes as long as Tennessee and Iowa still want to play us in 2015.
