Wyoming transfer Chad Reese joins Mean Green
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yup. And a little advice; if you really want to rile us up, the use the term "rustle your jimmies." We'll understand better and it'll get to us more effectively. For example: "It's so easy to rustle you kids' jimmies these days."- 20 replies

Updated UNT FB 2014 Recruiting Commitment Listing
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Andrew Jones earned his 3rd star on ESPN. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187988/andrew-jones We know have 8 of our 16 high school recruits as 3-stars on at least 1 of the major recruiting websites. -
Now a 3-star on ESPN. ESPN has 6 of our prospects rated 3-stars and none of those 6 are named Tee Goree or Willy Ivery. 8 out of our 16 high school commits are rated 3-stars by at least one of the major recruiting services. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/187988/andrew-jones

That's a big boy. Maybe Reese can convince him to come down and walkon. Although out of state tuition would be a factor, unfortunately.- 20 replies

Wyoming transfer Chad Reese joins Mean Green

Gotchas. Meant to say he'd be eligible in 2015 as a redshirt senior. Been in basketball mode this weekend. 2 basketball seasons from now will be 2015-2016. But yes, he'll sit out 2014 and play his final season as a redshirt senior in 2015. What I meant to say, sorry. Thanks for catching it!- 20 replies

Yes. That's exactly what people are saying . Come on Kram! Reading comprehension! 4-4-3-2-1? What is that? The new zone defense Benford will try to run next? That makes sense though! Maybe with that zone our players (kids or adults?) will not get tired so easy! So easy to rile you up!

Wyoming transfer Chad Reese joins Mean Green

Has to sit out per transfer rules. If a player is on scholarship at an FBS school and transfers to another FBS school then he must sit out a year. Even if he isn't going to be on scholarship here. He wouldn't have to sit out a year if he graduated from Wyoming and came here to be in a grad program that they did not offer. Not the case in this instance.- 20 replies

I really think that was a mistake. McClain commented when he committed that the coaches sold him on the opportunity to replace Trice at free safety. -

I wouldn't count out Freddie Warner taking the free safety spot. He was actually ahead of Zed Evans before he got hurt. -

If he's class of 2011 then he will only have 1 more year of eligibility after sitting out next year. 3rd year of college right now, next year (his redshirt year) will be his 4th. Then 2016, when he becomes eligible, will be his 5th year of college (redshirt senior season). Edit: Meant to say in 2015, when he becomes eligible.- 20 replies

Verbal commits are nonbinding. Can't sign until national signing day (first Wednesday in February).

18 year olds actually can't enter the NBA. They haven't been able to since 2005. Some kids who graduate high school early/start school early are 17 when they graduate high school. Those kids might be 18 after their freshman year when they get drafted, but it's very rare. Who do you think you are telling CMJ to grow up?

Also, we've officially played more CUSA opponents (6) than Southland opponents (5) and non-D1 opponents (5). Not quite as much success against CUSA teams though.

Man, keep thinking about this game and the thing I keep coming back to is Jordan Williams getting fouled and making that 3-pointer with a chance for a 4-point play at the line. One of my biggest pet peeves in basketball has always been missing the free throw on and "and 1" play. Maybe it's because it's my pet peeve, but I've noticed many times in basketball games, particularly college games, that a missed free throw after an "and 1" sucks away the momentum that the play initially generated and is often a turning point. The play made it 31-19 but after we failed to make it 32-19 it was all MTSU from there on out, even if it had nothing to do with the failed 4-point play conversion in reality. Just a rough loss. SN: Jordan Williams passed Alzee Williams as the team's leading scorer. Now leads the team in both scoring and rebounding.

Kermit sure handles us everytime we play, though. We haven't beaten them since 09. Anytime we play against Kermit, he makes sure we know first hand that it's not easy being green. Sorry. I'm sure that joke has been made too many times on here.

We will need to recruit both next class regardless. Not getting a point guard with this last spot would be a very dangerous proposition. We'd need 3 shooting guards to rotate in when CJ goes out and would hand over the reins to a guy the year after with no experience running this team. Although that did work out for us a few years ago when we pulled in CJ. But it would take us getting a prospect like that and we'd need to start winning to get someone like that. Starting a new guy at the 5 in two years would be tough as well, but that's the spot you put yourself in when 7 of your 13 scholarship players are in one class.

End wasn't supposed to be disrespectful, just meant to say don't criticize the class without having all the information you need to properly judge it. Yes, it's hard to judge CUSA class rankings on these websites because they devote very little effort towards evaluating these kids once they see they are not getting a lot of big school offers and they don't commit to one. But we have a very good class and a very tight knit one as well. Couple these guys with solid walkons we will continue to bring in, and likely a class that will probably be even more decorated each year going forward and things are looking great. -
Big man will be a major priority next recruiting cycle, but we need a point guard more direly. Particularly because CJ needs a backup next year. All the high school big guys are taken so if we add a big guy now we'd be looking at something like another Armani Flannigan type prospect, and no backup point guard for next year. Gaines and Coleman will be seniors next year so we will definitely need to get some centers. Not to mention our 4s; Colin Voss and Flannigan will be be seniors so we will need to look at adding at least 3 new post players, and at least 2 guys who can play center. Wesley and Combs are both undersized at the 4, so we definitely need some quality height.

He is redshirting.
-
Two. The other is Deandre Harris, a combo guard from Milwaukee who Benford recruited at Marquette when Harris was in high school. Harris spent last year at Tyler Junior college and averaged something respectable like 12-13 points/game. He is also a 2-guard and is supposed to give us some scoring punch off the bench as well as a consistent 3-point threat (Benford said if he were on our roster right now he'd be our best three point shooter). He had a weird situation. Something like Tonsilitis forced him to miss the beginning of the year for TJC so his coach told him just to redshirt so he'd be a redshirt sophomore when he gets here, rather than a junior.
-
They had no choice but to redshirt him. He was ruled ineligible for the year due to some sort of grades thing, from high school. It was very odd but, as Andrew said, he should be good to go by next year.
-
I sure hope they're both here. Not to mention the two JUCO guys. We also desperately need a backup point guard. We have only Chris to play point next year and no one the year after that. TJ could maybe split time at the point with Chris, but he will be gone after next year as well.
-
Not just that, but the alarmingly low rate at which Benford's recruits actually make it in. There was a time early (right about the time 2012-2013 season was about to start) when we had 5 commits. They were Arthur Casimiro, Anthony Norris, Greg Wesley, Josh Friar, and Tony Nunn. You probably noticed that 0 of those 5 guys were on the court today. Not to mention our freshman from last year (PJ and Overlander) transferred out after one year. Could get ugly, especially if we continue to underperform on the court while those 7 current juniors are still here.
