Good run to get back in it

15 points in 5 possessions. Great shot making + defensive lapses.

Have to tighten it up on defense. We aren’t designed to get back in games quickly offensively. Need to start holding them down and get them on a big scoreless streak.

One of the weaknesses of our defense seems to be fouling three point shooters. Just like down low, if you can, just go straight up. Don’t go into them.

Kody Fulp was last on our roster in 2017. Sooooo no he was not on the roster to start the season.

I’m talking about the present and the past. Neither shows widespread P5 pilfering of G5 developed high school players who became starters.

Mavericks average 99 possessions per game. We average 63.

It would be foolish to stop emphasizing high school players. The caliber of players we are talking about (UNT starters) have struggled to get any real NIL money thus far. At schools like UNT or at bigger name programs.

You can’t name one because it hadn’t happened. The transfer portal has been around for 4 years now. The ability to not sit out a year after transferring has been around for 2 years. And you can’t attribute this transfer to NIL money. There has been no NIL deal signed. This is all just conjecture based on buzz words with no evidence.

I’m not saying it has never happened, just that it isn’t some epidemic that is causing us to lose good young starters. Name another player besides the Murphy twins who we signed out of high school, they became a starter as an underclassman, then a bigger program poached them away before we got to enjoy them as upperclassmen.

We really haven’t had much of an issue with this, honestly. The vast majority of guys we have lost were players who were not starters or even rotational players. Then we have lost guys like Brammer and Cam Johnson who were starters but already played 4 seasons for us and only had an extra season because of COVID. This is definitely much more of a leaving a sinking ship situation, like you mentioned, than it is that schools recruit our players or that there’s no point in developing high school players anymore.

Hope Jacobi Johnson sees this opportunity and comes back. At this point just want to see players the new coach can inherit.

Brammer too

In year’s past he could count towards either. If there were spots available in the previous class he could count there. Otherwise he would count towards the upcoming class.

I really doubt we add anyone in time to get them on campus for spring ball.

Ah, but you see these other teams’ leading scorers just happen to all have off shooting nights against us. That’s what happens every game, according to the opposing fan bases.

Exactly. He doesn’t need much space to get a good shot off and I’d love to see more volume there with how good he is. Absolute elite shooter.

I’d like to see Rubin handle the ball more when Perry is in the game. I think it would be easier to get Perry open looks if he’s coming off of off-ball screens. Can’t do that as the ball handler/initiator. Don’t need to fully take the ball out of Perry’s hands, but just let him and Rubin switch it up a little.

Yeah if we had two players towards the top of the conference in scoring it would make more sense to opposing fans. They’re gonna look at our leading scorer list and not be intimidated for the foreseeable future.
