  1. And now Okoroh is headed to Cal.
  2. Let me start off by clarifying that I would much rather win 9 with a bus driver than go 1-11 or 2-10 with a flashy qb/offense. We can keep winning 9 with a bus driver and I'll be happy and appreciative of Mac and crew, and I think we all will. I just fear having a bus driver limits our potential. In the BCS era, the schools that made BCS bowl games from non-AQ conferences had one major similarity, being a difference maker at qb. Utah had Alex Smith and Brian Johnson, Boise State had Jared Zabransky and Kellen Moore, Hawaii had Colt Brennan, TCU had Andy Dalton, and Northern Illinois had Jordan Lynch. We're talking about NFL QBs (Smith and Dalton), major NCAA record holders (Brennan, Lynch, and Moore), and at least guys in the mid to upper 20s in TD passes (Zabransky and Johnson). The passing game and qb are the great equalizers of college football IMO. Again, no complaining if we keep winning. But that, to me, is the risk you run with being a non-P5 committing to the bus-driver type qbs. Also hard to really call it a risk.
  3. What about midseason though? Once the starter has actually been named and played.
  4. As soon as we offered Kelly and his teammate Quentez Johnson, the first thing I thought was that it was influenced by Coach KP. They did a decent job recruiting Georgia while he was at USF. Usually pulled 2-4 kids a class from Georgia. May or may not be the connection. I love the idea of recruiting these southern states. No need in putting in the resources we did in Louisiana. Just offer a few kids here and there and try and get a visit out of them. Keep Texas the major focus, keep recruiting Oklahoma hard, and keep a watchful eye on the other southern states and the prospects in our conference foes' backyards.
  5. That's huge. A commitment would be big in multiple ways. Shocking to me that he has no other offers, playing in arguably one of the top 5 football hotbeds in the country in Atlanta. His film is very impressive IMO. He has good size and good speed/agility, in part evidenced by his coaches moving him to linebacker. I think Kelly would make a very good jack linebacker in a 3-4 scheme, but he could definitely be a good end in a 4-3 for us.
  6. When has Mac shown that he might consider replacing the starting qb?
  7. So many of the good high school players in the state and across the country sign during the early signing period that there just isn't much left. And a lot of the kids who don't sign in the fall are often kids choosing between schools like Kentucky, Kansas, and Syracuse, and are just waiting to pick until after the season to see who declares for the NBA. So it's sort of a combination of things. 1. He needs to win now 2. He got his butt whooped this recruiting cycle trying to land the high school kids he wanted, save for Jeremy Combs 3. The high school kids left are either out of his reach or projects who would be risks because they may never develop and would take some time even if they were to develop. I'm sure he has/will continue to kick the tires on high school kids left, but those factors I listed above make JUCO prospects much more likely.
  8. Wow. That's extremely unfortunate.
  9. South Park did it better.
  10. I believe Wade will count towards our 2015 signing class, but the rest have played at least 2 seasons for us as walkons, including Tony Johnson.
  11. Easily may not have been the right word, but it greatly improves our chances. Imagine the Georgia game last year if they didn't have the SEC's all-time leading passer, but rather an innacurate QB. Their running game will be tough to stop, but it'll be a lot easier if we can stack the box.
  12. If being 6'3" were all it took to see the field here, Darius Terrell would've started over one of our starting receivers who were 6'0", 5'9", and 5'8", respectively. And Terrell has some game too, which I think he'll show us this year. But yeah, TCU could get some good receivers to go along with Thomas. I can't see them snagging that many receivers bigger and faster than Thomas. Those kind of receivers are out of TCU's grasp unless they start proving they can compete in the big 12. Heck, if Thomas has a big year I think TCU could have a hard time holding onto him. Especially with him entering just his second year at receiver. Bottom line is Thomas could play early at either school if he proves his flashes of potential are not a fluke. Likewise, if he isn't ready to play D1 football after just two years at receiver, he'd have trouble getting into the rotation at either school.
  13. Ideally for them they'd be able to redshirt him, but I don't think they will have that luxury. Especially if Ash is out. Strong also had some success playing Teddy Bridgewater as a true frosh. Not that Heard is as developed a passer, but still. Maybe some worth noting.
  14. The big haul of receivers that TCU pulled in with the 2011 signing class are now seniors this year. 1 of them was going to be a redshirt junior (Ladarius Brown) this year after finishing 3rd on the team in receiving, but he was dismissed. They have another solid outside receiver who will be a junior this year, and a senior when Thomas comes in for the 2015 season. It'll be wide open and he'll have a great chance to play as a true freshman, and especially the years after that. But yeah, to say his choices are to play here or sit at TCU is not looking into this situation. If he ends up realizing his potential he could play early at either school. If not he'd also have a hard time cracking the rotation early on at either school. SN: I wouldn't mind seeing Jalen Adams redshirt this year and learn to play both inside and outside receiver. He could help us out at both positions, and we don't have a bevy of outside receivers. I think Adams may have more potential at cornerback, but I think he'll be a good WR if he stays on offense.
  15. Tyrone Swoopes, and incoming freshman Jerrod Heard. If it's Swoopes, force him to throw the ball and we can easily keep the game close.
  16. Yup. And it could be his first season with a full 13 eligible scholarship players available. Oh wait, I just realized why that may not be a good thing.
  17. Picked up his first P5 offer from TCU.
  18. I would say it's unfair because the ones we see and have a good idea about are the OC (Canales), DC (Skladany), and S&C Coordinator (Wintrich). Other than that, we really can't give fair judgments, as a whole, of the rest.
  19. Fortunately we have Jordan Williams, who's a guard on offense and also 6'6" and our best rebounder. He can be a mismatch on offense and still hold his own on defense. Unfortunately he's gone after this year and we need Benford to replace him.
  20. You're right that post play couldn't get a lot worse. But even then, it's hard to see it getting better by adding guys with no other offers. We're probably better off getting another wing type player and having Voss, Ahmed, Flannigan, Greg Wesley, Jeremy Combs, and Jordan Williams be our posts. The only one of them over 6'7" is Flannigan, but getting a big man who looks lost on the court just to get a big man won't help.
  21. They go on scholarship as soon as they get to campus.
  22. CJ, TJ, Mo, Jordan, and Voss. Just roll the 5 out there and hope for the best. Jordan is our best rebounder anyways.
  23. Walkon was always the plan with him. Don't think he enrolled in time for this semester. Could likely see him in the fall, then sit out a year and play in 2015. Whether or not he earns a scholarship is tbd.
  24. I believe so. If one of our scholarship transfers were to quit, I'm not sure if they would still take up a spot in the 2015 signing class.
