  1. Very impressive athlete, with an equally impressive offer list. Plays qb but is being recruited by many as an athlete. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/1436366/keith-washington http://247sports.com/Player/Keith-Washington-33038 http://www.scout.com/a.z?s=143&p=8&c=1&nid=7427008 https://rivals.yahoo.com/texas/football/recruiting/player-Keith-Washington-156877;_ylt=AqgJKgPELMQL15fXCaGFY4rwt5B4
  2. Dajon situation almost looks like an exact repeat of Berglund from last year.
  3. Terrell and Kidsy on the outside are backed up by former walkons. Solid players, but Tee Goree and O'Keeron Rutherford will have plenty of opportunities in fall camp. Also should be interesting to see if Turner Smiley can hold off both Fonzale Davis and Jalen Adams as the #2 slot receiver on this team.
  4. Texas State and Toledo have also offered now.
  5. Recently went on an unofficial to Oklahoma, but somehow we are still his only listed offer.
  6. Has since picked up offers from La Tech and Texas Tech.
  7. https://twitter.com/damonsayles/status/458971924500992000
  8. With coach Donnie Tyndall leaving Southern Miss to take the HC job at Tennessee, I wonder if Suarez wants to reopen his recruitment. He'd need to be let out of his LOI, but we did offer before he committed to USM. Just throwing it out there. http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-sports/2013/10/recruiting_southern_miss_picks_1.html http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Rasham-Suarez-145377 High school: http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketball/recruiting/player-Rasham-Suarez-111374
  9. Yeah, his blocking ability is a good example of an advantage he'd have over Jordan. But he still was a liability on defense IMO. Jordan would be as well, but he'd be a mismatch on offense while allowing another guard (our strength) to be on the floor. Been fun arguing this, but hopefully I'm done. Again, this roster is pretty much a mess and if we're going to be small we may as well try and play uptempo, with a 4 who can be a mismatch if he's undersized anyway. I see no reason to try and play conventional posts when you could play guys who will put up just as much of a fight down low while giving you a little more overall as a basketball player (Combs, Wesley, and Jordan). This argument wasn't as much against Flannigan by design, just that he and Voss are the final conventional posts remaining.
  10. But that's not the reason for doing it, but rather a justification. Putting your best 5 players on the court would feature 4 guard-types, especially if we got Brooks and including Jordan. The 5th would likely be Ahmed or Voss. In this situation Jordan would have to be the 4. That is then justified by saying that, while out of position, he isn't really a drop off from the other options defensively. Making there no reason really to keep one of your best 5 off the court in favor of a subpar post. But yeah, just talking basketball and spitballing for fun, really. This roster is not looking pretty, so might as well. That's not the only option. But I just don't see it as a noticeably worse option than any others.
  11. Explain this "he can do a ton in the post that Jordan can not." Back that statement up. I don't think he's a solid post defender either, but that's just my opinion. Really hope Ahmed can start opposite Voss on the block. I realize Jordan got a lot of rebounds coming from the outside in, and not from boxing out posts. Doesn't mean he can't hold his own down there any better than our other options.. My justification for playing Jordan at the 4 this year is not just for Jordan. It goes for Wesley as well and, to a degree, Combs.
  12. 6.3 rebounds/game in CUSA = poor rebounding 3 in the Sun Belt? What 4 in this conference would take Jordan to the woodshed in the post? Vince Hunter from UTEP comes to mind. But Hunter (and a few other solid 4s) would do the same thing to Jordan that they would to Armani, Wesley, Combs, and even Bocoum if we got him. Which, as you said, speaks to the inability to recruit quality posts by Benford. Voss was a solid 4, but he's only 6'7", he wasn't great defensively, and he'll need to play 5 for us. Ahmed could be a good post, but he's just 6'7" as well, and averaged about the same amount of rebounds per game against JUCO competition as Jordan did against CUSA competition. If Jordan can't hang with 4s in the conference, tell me which ones. If we shouldn't play him at times at 4, then who should. What do Flash, Wesley, and Combs have right now that better suits them to guard the 4 than Jordan. Again, not saying he plays the majority of his minutes at the 4, or that he's better suited there than 2 or 3.
  13. Benford hasn't been able to outrecruit. That's why we are signing all these guys with no other offers. There's a reason he's going after Bocoum. Between what centers are still available and what schools Benford can out recruit, that has lead us to Bocoum. A 6'9" body with no other offers yet. A guard lineup can be entertaining. I'd rather have that than have posts like we did last year, who were 14th in rebounding margin in a 16 team conference. Oh yeah, and one of the worst seasons historically in CUSA history. As for redshirting two years in a row, ask UNT90 (I believe the answer is yes).
  14. Yes, this is true. But I think he could hold his own rebounding, due to his experience and athletic ability, and be a nightmare for a true post to guard when on offense. Like I said in my response to 90, we don't have much better options. Bigger posts will negate Combs and Wesley just as much, if not more. Ahmed and Voss are bigger bodied, but that's still just two guys.
  15. Ideally, if we could've got quality, legit sized posts this wouldn't need to be an option. I also am not recommending this as our primary lineup, but a lineup we could go to often. This conference, especially last year, is hardly a juggernaut conference with ample skilled big men. There are very few guys in this conference above 6'7" who actually are players and not just bodies. Look for yourself. The top teams in this conference had skill on the court, rather than just size. Of the top 4 teams in CUSA, La Tech, MTSU, and Tulsa played just 1 guy in their entire rotation, not just starters, over 6'7". Southern Miss played 0. Plus, what are our better options? Combs and Wesley have a lot of potential, but both are skinnier than Jordan and the same height. Not to mention they haven't played on a D1 floor yet. Wesley also was not a standout rebounder in high school. Putting Flannigan out there would be having a post just to have a post IMO. If we got Bocoum, it'd be the same thing. Ahmed is the guy we need to play big minutes down low with Voss, if we want to try and play in the half court with other teams. But that's just two guys. Whether we play Williams or the other guys at the 4, if we play a team like UTEP, we will have a big advantage down low. We'll get outrebounded by those guys and posted up on. But if we have a guy like Jordan at the 4, we can't at least have a mismatch on offense in a guy who can stretch those big men out of the paint and open up the floor with other guards. Rather than try and post up our smaller posts on much taller, skilled big men.
  16. If all the offers we've sent out to high school outside receivers wasn't enough, this offer makes it seem pretty obvious that the coaches really want an upgrade and some more options on the outside. Our depth on the outside behind Kidsy and Terrell didn't really stand out this spring, and Terrell graduates after this year, and Kidsy is on the short side for an outside receiver (maybe 6'0"). Adding Goree and Rutherford to the mix in the fall should help our depth on the outside, but you can never be sure about prospects really until they start producing on a D1 field on Saturdays. Should be interesting to keep an eye on receiver recruiting this class, especially after taking 4 last year.
  17. 6'2" 190 lb receiver. Had 766 yards receiving and 5 receiving tds on 45 catches last year as a freshman at Blinn. Already holds offers from Kentucky and Illinois. From Bayton, Texas. Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/687309/darrion-landry http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Darrion-Landry-160429 http://recruiting.scout.com/a.z?s=73&p=8&c=1&nid=7243256 http://247sports.com/Player/Darrion-Landry-12936
  18. 1st team all-district defensive end for 5-4A. Listed at 6'3" 264 lbs. Versatile player, has played tight end, linebacker, defensive end, and could be a d-tackle in college if he truly does weigh 260+ lbs as a junior in high school. Also holds a Colorado State offer. Same high school as 2012 signee Dylan Mcdorman and 2013 signee Harrison Sorge. http://iowa.scout.com/a.z?s=8&p=8&c=1&nid=7700059 http://247sports.com/Player/RD-Wegmann-76049 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/509471/ryan-rd-wegmann
  19. Used to hate when idiots would pull stupid stuff like that in practice. They have no idea how important the stars of teams are and why you shouldn't do that. The kids that take late hits and hit vulnerable spots. Anyways, thanks for the insight! Good luck!
  20. Which is why Combs doesn't project to a go-to guy in college, IMO. At least not right away. The reason to play Jordan at the 4 would be to put 4 guards on the floor and try and out score the other team. What 5 would you rather have on the floor: Chris Jones, 2 of Brooks/Aniefiok/Taylor, Jordan Williams, and Colin Voss - or Jones, Brooks, Williams, Flannigan, and Voss? Which lineup is better offensively? Clearly the 1st one. Which is better defensively? No clear cut better defensive lineup between those two IMO. Ahmed, Wesley, and Combs are vital to this team's success. Hopefully they make it to where we don't need Jordan to play the 4. But on a team that is already small, whether you put a true post at the 4 or not, may as well use Jordan's height and rebounding to your advantage.
  21. 6'0" 194 lb linebacker from Duncanville. Fits the mold of the smaller, speed type guys we like to offer at outside linebacker (Garner, Ellis, Minor, Montgomery, etc). Green put up one of the best Sparq scores in the country for a linebacker at 117.21, which included a laser-timed 4.55 40 and 4.19 shuttle. Very impressive athlete. http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/combine/_/id/176146/zacarrius-green Was 1st team all district 7-5A as a junior last year at linebacker for Duncanville but is likely being recruited by other schools to play safety. Also holds offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas, and La Tech. We also offered his teammate, DT Sami Awad. 22. Understand the difference between giving up recruiting Louisiana and no longer putting major resources into Louisiana. We already have offered a player from Louisiana in this cycle in Mikorri Reese. Taking major resources out of recruiting a state or area doesn't mean you are never going to offer a kid from that state/area ever again.
  23. Of course. We've landed some awesome walkons, but we've definitely let others through the cracks and not recruited guys we could've landed who would've helped us more than some of our signees. As 97and03 said, it'll be big to see how a team with primarily Mac players and starters play. I'm not sure though. Was your question in response to my thinking that we need to start locking up more and earlier commits?
  24. That was Miles Onyegbule. Was Matt Joeckel's go-to receiver at Arlington High, then started at qb in 2010 before Josh Greer took over as a senior in 2011.
