  1. Oh wow. Bellazin had a nice string of solid practices last fall. No wonder he had such a solid season.
  2. I think you posted last year about attending a fall scrimmage and Berglund looking the best of all the qbs. Why do you think he was never given a shot and DT got the job? Did Thompson do a better job of running the plays right and knowing the playbook? I'm trying to see what this coaching staff is really looking for out of our qbs. Because that's what it seems like they're looking for, above all other things.
  3. I'll answer that, but it's besides the point. My point was that we're going to need more than that from our qb in conference play this year. If they give us the same production in conference play that DT did, then people may be saying "we miss DT" when in reality we're getting his production, it's just not enough now. It's just a scenario. But to answer your question, Dajon wouldn't be facing our 2013 defense week in and week out. He'd be facing defenses that are very unlikely to be close to that good. We also have a much better line than those teams like Southern Miss, UTEP, La Tech, etc had blocking for their freshman qb. I also personally think we have better skill players than those teams did last year.
  4. Interesting stat that a lot of people overlook: 5 of our 6 conference wins came against a team whose majority of snaps taken against us were by a freshman qb. In conference play DT had 8 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. 4:5 td/int ratio, but we were beating up on freshman qbs, running the ball well, and playing great special teams, and it didn't matter. He did good in nonconference play, with games like Idaho, Ball State, and UNLV. But if our qb replicates his conference stats (8 tds against 10 ints) we may think we're missing him. When in reality we just may not have as good a defense, special teams, and freshman qbs to beat up on.
  5. Yeah, he's a stud. He's going to be a real weapon for us going forward. Possibly in the rushing game, receiving game, and return game. I wonder if our coaches will give him a shot in the return game this year. Sulphur springs won the state championship back in 2008, not his sophomore year. Ivery was a 7th grader. Mason Y'Barbo was a junior on that team.
  6. It'll be interesting to see where Means fits next year. If Mcnulty or Greer has a so-so year, is the competition re-opened again next spring? Means is an interesting case. He has performed very well, but his high school stats were not great. There are plenty of examples of qbs not having great high school stats, but looked the part and had great college careers. Case Keenum barely threw over 50% completion and had 12 tds against 13 ints in high school. Sam Bradford threw 19 tds against 15 ints his senior year of high school. But they looked the part and had the tools. Hopefully the same applies for Means. https://rivals.yahoo.com/houston/football/recruiting/player-Case-Keenum-36272 http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Sam-Bradford-31616
  7. Kidsy has been one of the more underrated recruiting coups under Coach Mccarney. Offers from Miami (OH), Fresno State, Illinois, and Utah.http://cle.scout.com/a.z?s=149&p=8&c=1&nid=6207079 I'm excited to see how Kidsy has developed as a receiver. He's very good after the catch.
  8. Goree got a shout out for yesterday's practice. Kidsy has been on it a good amount as well. He's going to make plays this year as well.
  9. Fumble-rooskie to Jaskulske or GTFO
  10. Then there's more injustice. Starters and star players would eventually complain and ask why their pay wasn't increasing and why the third-string junior, who puts minimal effort towards football and is just in it for a paycheck and an education, is getting paid the same as the stars. When one is clearly more responsible for the revenue being generated.
  11. Ended up at Motlow State. Same JUCO as Dequon Miller
  12. Yeah, I too am surprised he still has eligibility after playing for Nebraska all those years ago. Nice to have a player on our roster with national championship experience, though.
  13. Lol Here's my view on this whole pay for play thing. DT, and any of our players, most likely falls under category 2. DT got 5 years worth of a scholarship, plus room and board paid for, plus meal plan. Close to $70K worth of value. When you factor in that football players stay almost year round, therefore have their room and board paid for 10-11 months. It'll be interesting to see if his name personally generated our school much more than $70K in revenue. It's possible, since he was a 3-year starter at qb.

  16. Lol. He was saying that because two of those guys will be back next year when we are going to have to replace at least 3, maybe 4 starting offensive linemen and we aren't really sure what we have behind them.

  18. To what you and 90 said, my statements on Wilson have absolutely nothing to do with the coaches (Canales) giving him praise. Purely on the film. You either see what makes him special in his film or you don't. Also, the THSCA All Star game. But whether you see it or not doesn't change the fact that it's there. It also doesn't mean he's going to be successful. Not calling him the next this or that. As for redshirting. It all comes down to one thing. Is the risk of not having a player for that fifth season worth what he's going to bring the team as a true freshman? We have an all purpose back in Jimmerson, a power back in Pegram, and a home-run threat in Evans. So we aren't really missing much in our top 3. And like GreenP1 said, you don't want to get too many guys in the mix. Wilson is more of an all purpose guy, with a little bit of home run threat. Although I'm not sure on Wilson's top-end speed yet to truly be a burner. The likelihood that Wilson will be a starter or major back by his 5th season (what we'd give up by playing him this season), coupled with the fact that we really aren't missing much in our top 3 backs means that most likely a redshirt would be beneficial. Again, unless he ends up being our number 1 or number 2 back.
