Hot sports opinions. Not hot sports facts.

What did you guys think of your qb competition? Do you guys like Burcham?
-
I'm really having trouble seeing Texas playing Shipley this game. If he does he'll be limited at best.
-
http://sbnation.com/e/5817644 Apparently Swoopes has been inconsistent, Heard was just more inconsistent.
-
Pocket passer. Played a little last year when Gilbert was out for injury. Burcham himself got hurt the last game against UCF. That was the only game I watched of him and he didn't impress much, but he was playing a good team as a RS freshmam. Had 2 tds against 4 picks on the season. In high school he was a national Elite 11 finalist. Probably the least recruited Elite 11 finalist since they've been airing the finals on ESPN. ESPN rated him a 4-star because of that, but his offer list didn't match that profile. He was a 3-star on rivals and a 2-star on scout. Only other offers were Ark State, UAB, and Cincy. Throws a good ball, but if we get good pressure on him then I could see us picking him off multiple times.

Looks like Neal Burcham is going to start over Matt Davis.

Nothing a whole lot different from what we've been hearing. -

Meh. It's part of the process. This is a very common outlook towards decommitting, but it's easy to forget that these are 16 and 17 year olds making these decisions. They have to look out for their best interests. I'm not going to hold anything against Tillman Johnson for deciding on second thought that North Texas may be better for him than Texas State. As for SMU, unfortunately they have gotten the better of us lately in recruiting. They are ahead of us in the state's recruiting totem pole. But we still do beat them out from time to time and hopefully we pass them up. Preston would be a good step towards that. Beating SMU would go a long ways towards getting Preston. Even then, I'm concerned about the $100 handshakes he would get if he visits SMU. There's also a good chance they aren't the last school to offer him. He has all the tools, he just needs to put it together on the field. Sounds like he's well on his way towards that. Hopefully we can still hang on to him. -

Defense I'd go with Alex Lincoln just ahead of Chad Polk. We don't technically return any starters, but these guys both played a lot last year and were a big reason why we didn't see a dropoff when that second unit on the d-line rotated in. People also forget, Lincoln also started a lot in 2012 as a sophomore when Ryan Boutwell was having trouble with injuries. Aside from essentially being a returning starter in my book, Lincoln just looks like the prototypical 3-technique. About 6'2"/6'3" and 270-275 lbs. Looks like a "1st off the bus" type of guy. On offense I'd also say Kidsy. McKinney is solid too, and he really looked good last year. He's huge but he plays physical too. As for Kidsy, that's a nice talent to have on a team. One of the more highly recruited Mccarney signees, with offers from schools like Illinois and Utah. Very elusive. Can't wait to see him this year. He's going to be a guy who everyone starts getting out of their seat everytime he touches the ball.

Spose I could. Greg Goedecker (Mean Green Breakdown) did a good one as well. -
Where we will be hard pressed to better DT
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This conversation again... It doesn't do any good. If you support DT and make posts backing him, people who are critical are going to show statistically that he wasn't great. If you show statistically that he wasn't great, you're seen as ungrateful, a DT hater, etc. Just doesn't do anyone any good. Again, he had 8 tds against 10 interceptions in conference play. If we miss that, we better hope our defense and special teams are as good as last year. But even then, that kind of passing game will likely come back to bite us in the butt at some point, like it did when we needed to score 20 points at home against UTSA for the west division title. Oops, I forgot. Bringing up these facts means I didn't support the guy and I'm ungrateful for what he did. -

Absolutely. I also think we're going to see some good pressure up the middle on pass-rushing downs with guys like Lincoln and Syd Moore. Moore is undersized, but if he's one on one with a guard on a pass-rushing down he could really be a weapon. -
Rated a 3-star on ESPN with a grade of 71. For the record, 4 of our 5 defensive back commits are rated 3-stars. Ashton Preston on Scout and ESPN, Zavian Bingham on Scout, and Nate Brooks and Taylor Robinson on ESPN.

Good to hear Tillman get another shoutout. Sophomores Dilonga and Roberts, freshman Tillman Johnson, plus 2015 commit Sam Miller is our highest rated and most highly recruited defensive commit in the recruiting website era. Good future rotation at defensive end. Also, good to hear a shoutout for Garner. He and Montgomery have both gotten shoutouts this fall. Our 2014 class was all about the offensive players, but the 2014 defense signees appear to be having great camps. -
New Name on Roster- Michael Igwe DT Kilgore JC

3) We did sign an NG from Texas (TJ Tauaalo) And yeah, I'm almost certain he has to be a walkon since we signed the full 25 last class. -
Looks like he held an Arkansas Pine Bluff and a Missouri State offer. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Michael-Igwe-147482 http://northcarolina.scout.com/a.z?s=78&p=8&c=1&nid=7419341

2002 Cedric Benson is better than either of the Texas backs, IMO. -
