I think the Dodge era scared many UNT fans away from an opened up offense. A lot of you guys synonomize opened-up offenses with giving up 60+ points and turning the ball over 5 times a game. We can run a little more uptempo, spread things out more, open up the passing game, and score more points and it wouldn't automatically mean our defense would get worse as a result or that we'd throw more interceptions. And Ben has a point. Passing game is the great equalizer when it comes to non power programs playing the big boys. You're not going to line up and run for 300 yards on them. We can have a steady, solid rushing attack. But ultimately we're going to have to throw the ball to score touchdowns and beat those teams. That's how it's been done in the past by smaller programs.
-
But it's still comparable. They're replacing a Heisman Trophy Winner with a 4-star. We're replacing a middle of the pack CUSA qb (statistically), so we don't need a 4-star qb to upgrade our qb position. We just need more success passing the ball.

'15 WR Rodney Bendy (Tyler John Tyler)
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
His production has not been great to this point. Was only 5th on his high school team in receiving last year. To be fair, there was very little seperation yardage-wise between him and the 3rd and 4th leading receiver. He had 368 yards and 4 scores. He has the skill set, he's apparently done well at practices, 7on7, etc. He just has to produce more when the lights are on. Which can be both a good thing and a bad thing for us. Because there are plenty of big schools keeping a close eye on him in case he does just that. -

Unrelated, but at 6'8" 431 he has to be one of the biggest college players ever. At least in recent memory. -
Got us at #7 in the preseason version with a chance to make a big move this weekend.

Rated a 73 on ESPN. Good for a rating of 3-stars. -
Yup. That's one of the things that excites me the most. Like I've said before, imagine if he were still in high school. Because he's young enough to be. After the year he just had, if last season he would've been a junior instead of a senior, it would've been a heck of a lot harder to land him. Glad to see he's on the travel squad. Hope he can get on the field and make an impact.

http://www.sunherald.com/2014/08/27/5765779/usm-games-may-be-televised-in.html This article talks about a potential live streaming by the American Sports Network (Sinclair station) on their website which has yet to launch.

Yeah, for sure. That one was the most surprising, in a good way.

Not sure about my expectation, but my hope is that Greer improves steadily over the next 3 seasons and he eventually becomes a qb we can rely on to not just be a game manager, but rather a qb who we can ask to throw the ball 40 times in a game and score us a lot of points. A guy who can win us a game where the other team has a decent point total as well. We lost 3 games last year where we couldn't out score a team whose point total was in the 20s. A lot of people are forgetting, Greer is a sophomore and could be our qb for the next 3 seasons. He's the present and the future. There's been a lot of talk and hype about the younger qbs on the roster (Dajon and Means), but if Greer takes care of business those guys will be backups for the next 3 seasons. Also, if Greer takes care of business those two and Mcnulty will be battling for the number 2 job next spring and there will be no qb competition for once. We have a lot of young talent on this roster who are in prime position to get a lot of experience over the next few years as well. If we can get a qb who can win us games, we could very well be the front runner in CUSA west going forward. Hopefully Greer can be that guy.
-
Yeah, Greer has to be big for us. We will have to convert a lot of 3rd and 4, 5, 6, 7 yards to go. Those are hard to convert on the ground, so we need him to make some big time throws.

Yeah, SMU offered early on and TCU was close. Grades were a big concern, and he was very small for a DT and too short to play end. When I first saw him on campus last year he looked under 250. Seems like he's big enough now. But yeah, his explosion off the ball was just about as good as it gets. Dude has an extremely powerful lower body and a great motor.

Yeah, I thought Moore had the best, or at least a tie for the best, film of all our 2013 signees. I thought Kidsy was right up there for that honor as well. And by best film, I mean film where the plays they made looked best as far as translating to D1 ball. Not just good-looking plays. That class is shaping up very nicely. I believe the only 3-star high school player from that class was Davis and Cody Nelson (who has since quit). Fred Scott was actually rated a 3-star on 247, and was ranked the number 3 fullback in the country, but that was at fullback and not LB. But still, it was a very low-rated class. Despite that, already 4 of the 13 high school players from that class are starting by their second year on campus, with some others in the two-deep. Going to be fun to watch those guys develop.

Dan McCarney UT game press conference notes

Flusche will count towards the 2015 class. I think Banogu will as well. I'm pretty sure last year was his first season with the team. Same with Keena. He was on the team last year, but I'm not sure about the season before. If coach Mccarney is putting them on scholarship then they have earned it and are worth the spot in the class..- 17 replies

NFL roster cuts are due today by 4 pm to reduce rosters down to 75, from 90 (I believe). This article predicts Zach Orr will NOT be cut today. http://ebonybird.com/2014/08/25/ravens-set-cut-roster-75/

So, is, uh, *today* the day?

Our offensive line averages 320.2 lbs across the board, going off of the listed weights on the official roster (assuming Shawn Mckinney is starting). This is bigger than 28 of the 32 NFL starting offensive lines.

Who Scores the First Touchdown of the Year?
BillySee58 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Which raises another question; anyone have any idea on how the kicking competition has gone or if there was one? We've been so wrapped up in the qb battle and, to a much lesser extent, the middle linebacker battle. As for my pick, I'll say Marcus Smith. -
