So who do we see under center next week?
BillySee58 replied to Andrew's topic in Mean Green Football
I still think it has to be Dajon. We are just so far off as a team, it's a hard situation to put a freshman in. But we need him to bounce back. Also, as bad as it looks like our receiving core needs help, not only do I think we should obviously keep redshirting Goree and Rutherford, I think we should maybe pack it in for Wilson and try and get a hardship waiver/medical redshirt for him. -
Ok, I have NO explanation for that one
BillySee58 replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
Yup. -
It's on Dajon. I said that at the beginning. But you need to put him in a better position than that as an OC.
-
Yeah, they were freshman mistakes, but he bought time by escaping the rush and there was still no one open. Then, on the int, it was such a predictable play. UAB dude read it like a book. Send Kidsy in motion, play fake, who do you think the ball is going to? I don't get why we have to run a play fake every time we throw a quick pass.
-
Zone read every single play? Come on
-
Don't take this as me defending the poor performance of our rush D, but Indiana is running all over Iowa too.
-
Looks like UTSA going with the true freshman. He'll have some experience going into the game with us. It'll be interesting to track his progress until then and see if he can turn that offense around.
-
Well, we are talking about qb completion heading into next season, so projections are kind of a necessity. I don't think anyone is anointing him the next Johnny Football. And I agree, that was my point. He's got at least 7 games left to develop and progress this season. Couple some valuable experience with his talent and there should be no doubt who our guy is, as long as he keeps maturing. We don't need any huge overnight revelation. Just some good maturing over time. They may have been garbage time tds, but he still drove us down and punched it in. DT had plenty of chances for garbage time tds in his career, but he still only had two 3-td passing games. Already beginning to surpass a guy some consider an HOFer here. That's a great start for Dajon, and he's getting better. It's hard to blame people for getting excited and having confidence with a guy like that.
-
DT had two 3 TD pass games in his career. DW already has two, in his first two starts. DW has over half as many touchdown passes in 2 starts as sophomore DT had in a whole season. And before you give the whole "he never played against we-suck-at-football state," line.http://espn.go.com/ncf/gamecast?gameId=322520249&version=mobile&src=desktop DT was good enough to lead us to a bowl win, but there's a reason so many of us are excited to watch DW play today. He gives us a chance to win, basically every week because of his talent, and he's growing every day and certainly every week. It's fun to watch a playmaker as opposed to a game-manager look from our qb. It's also fun to watch a talent like this develop. In order for there to be an open competition, DW's progression would have to completely stop still where it is now, he'd have to completely stopping giving a crap, and Means (a guy who completed 49% passes and had 10:9 td to int ratio last year in HS) would have to make tremendous strides. Means does look promising, but he's a guy who could still use some time to develop. DW is capable right now, and after the rest of the season he should have things locked down, at the rate he's progressing.

DRC: Sir Calvin 'Z-Ro' Wallace out to prove he no zero
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yup. Plus, Brelan was returning kickoffs. Catching the ball and running. Not to make light of it, but it's a very basic assignment, you just need to ability and he obviously had that. But he only caught like 1 pass that year. He wasn't ready at receiver and he obviously turned out fine there. Wallace didn't have any other offers. He was a project, but he had the size we desperately covet at DT. If you can get a guy like that contributing by his RS Sophomore year then that's a success. -
'15 WR D'erren Wilson (Dallas Bishop Dunne)

Hopefully we still have a shot here. -
'15 OL Dave Bolisomi (Denton Ryan)
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
To be honest, I think this kid is my number 1 want left for this recruiting class. If he would've played his junior year he'd have all kinds of offers, including P5s. If you look at our roster, once Antonio Johnson leaves after this season we really won't have a true Left Tackle left. Our other tackles haven't played much at this point in their careers. Harrison Sorge looks like he might be a true LT, but it's hard to gauge the guys who we've seen so little of. That's the hardest position to recruit at offensive line. The linemen who have the prototypical left tackle size, and have the bend and footwork to play the position are scooped up first, just like 6'4" 250 lb athletic defensive ends, and 6'3"+ stud qbs. The guys who look the part, play the part, and play cornerstone positions like those mentioned. In order for those guys to fly under the radar and fall to us, you need some sort of circumstance, like Bolisomi had by transferring schools and not playing last year. No one knew about him. This kid is the prototypical size at 6'6" 290, with little bad weight, has long arms, and has pretty good bend. If we can lock him up he could be our LT of the future, if he works hard and we develop him well. He's extremely raw, but he has plenty of tools for a coach to work with. Like BDT said, he'll have other offers, so we need to get in quick and do our best to lock him up. -

BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
It's not gonna happen, that's just not how it works. DT90 (Boutwell's dad) will be the first one to tell you that. We're undersized up front, but our d-line's problem against Indiana was getting sealed off. Not necessarily getting driven back. Same thing would happen, but worse with a converted o-lineman. Ideally you want those guys who have size and the ability to play d-line. Problem is, those guys usually have 10+ offers. -
You can also add WR Rod Lancaster, DB Jamarcus Jarvis, and RB Mark Lewis as 2012 guys who have defected prior to their third year on campus. The coaches have done a better job lately of signing classes that didn't have so many guys who quit or transferred out. But because of the 25 cap scholarships per class, plus the fact that a decent amount of those spots are usually filled by transfers and walkons being awarded scholarships in less than two years, the coaches can't afford to have that many guys not pan out.

MGB: Breaking news -- JUCO CB plans to decommit
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I believe Vito's information about Bingham's eligibility may be incorrect, and possibly the reason we aren't sure about the commitment. Vito says Bingham stills has his redshirt eligibility remaining, but according to this article Bingham played JUCO ball in 2012, sat out in 2013, and was playing this season prior to the injury. Bingham may not have officially redshirted in 2013, but by playing and enrolling full time in 2012, he started his eligibility counter. So he only has two years left to play two. http://www.sunherald.com/2014/03/22/5435854/former-mgccc-cb-zavian-bingham.html Not only is corner possibly the hardest position to recover from a torn ACL, but Bingham would be looking at missing a lot of valuable practice time while recovering. Then he'd only have a year left to truly play, if everything went right. Not to mention that we just signed a JUCO who played in 3 career games with us because of torn ACLs, and Freddie Warner's re-tearing of his ACL at CB. It's a tough situation and you hate to see it, but you can't do much other than hope for the best for Bingham. -
'15 JUCO DB Zavian Bingham (Mississippi)

2 for 2, to my knowledge -
6'6" 290 lb offensive tackle from Denton Ryan. Holds an offer from Grambling. We have not yet offered but may be close. Will visit on 10/18 for the Southern Miss game. http://recruiting.scout.com/story/1459538-introducing-denton-ryan-s-big-dave?s=73 Highlights: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/3853949/david-bolisomi http://hstexas.scout.com/a.z?s=378&p=8&c=1&nid=8135755 http://247sports.com/Player/David-Bolisomi-77027

Five quick thoughts on UNT’s loss to Indiana
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think I saw a single mention on here all day about how badass Antoinne Jimmerson played. I know many on here aren't huge fans because he dances a lot in the backfield, but dude made plays today. 119 yards from scrimmage on 13 touches. Dude was making plays. O-line did a solid job blocking for him too. With the offense molded around Dajon, we're probably going to see less Pegram and more of Jimmerson, Wilson, and some Evans and Ivery sprinkled in. Pegram left some yards on the field because he doesn't have the acceleration of the other guys. He'll still get the ball under center and in short yardage, but in the gun playing more in space those other guys are better fits. -
Their offense really hasn't looked good all year. Especially their passing game. Wide open west division. If our defense can pick things up we have a good chance, somehow. Long season.

...one more thing about Dajon Williams
BillySee58 replied to BIG DAWG's topic in Mean Green Football
Should be considered. I don't even think he made the trip. It's also tough to burn a kids redshirt after almost half the season. I have a hard time believing that Goree wouldn't be our third best receiving threat. -
It looked like Terrell had created no seperation at all. Shouldn't have been thrown, but good coverage and good play by the CB as well.

...one more thing about Dajon Williams
BillySee58 replied to BIG DAWG's topic in Mean Green Football
Yup. Going into Indiana and throwing 3 touchdown passes as a redshirt freshman. He did just fine. And Harris did great. We need some help in the receiving corp. -
Verdict is in on the 2014 North Texas Defense
BillySee58 replied to ColoradoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I hate that we punted it at the end. Our defense showed no sign that they would get us the ball back other than after giving up a touchdown. Ran the ball down the field on us at will. -
