Maybe but with walkons I tend to leave them off these lists until they do crack the two deep. New DC is as good a chance as any to make a move up the depth chart.
-
Definitely could see that. We have a lot of guys we are projecting as tackles (including Madero) and not as many interior guys, so some will inevitably get moved inside. Not exactly sure who just yet.
-
Because you’re implying they’re “guilty” just by virtue of fighting for a more fair share of the revenue that they generate for the institutions. The NCAA did everything they could for as long as they could with regards to keeping these athletes classified as amateurs so that they could cap their compensation while the value of their labor skyrocketed. Describing the players as “guilty” in that situation is very clear pro-institution framing in this case.

I know this is still subject to change, but with a lot of transfers signed I figure we have enough to get a pretty good idea on what our depth chart will look like next year. This includes all scholarship players and walkons who are in the depth chart. Did my best guess based on Sam Houston’s positions listed on their defensive depth chart (12 spots based on the packages) and where our guys were listed, as well as their guys who we are bringing over. Took some best guesses with guys who weren’t in the two deep/newcomers. Save your comments about how the transfer portal sucks and this could change so much between now, etc. That was always the case this many months out, but we have a pretty good idea based on the guys who actually play or we are bringing in. The bottom of the depth chart guys leaving is expected but doesn’t really change things. Only 2 of our 22 starters from our last game against Temple are in the portal. The high school guys who Morris have signed have pretty much all stayed, except for the guys who weren’t getting any playing time. Out of the 2023 and 2024 high school signees signed by Morris, Tyler Mercer is the only one to start and hit the portal. The other 2023 and 2024 HS Signees who have played extensively, Braydon Nelson, Brian Nelson, Evan Jackson, Landon Sides, Miles Coleman, Wyatt Young, Jaedon Langley, Taylor Starling, Quinton Hammonds have all played extensively or started as underclassmen the last two seasons and all seem pretty committed to the program. It seems your chances of keeping a starter is far higher if that guy is someone your HC signed out of high school. It’s a stronger relationship.

Short. Other schools were recruiting him as a receiver, including TCU where he was committed. We decided to give him a shot as a QB and that’s what he wanted. We’ll see if it pays off.
-
Yeah Cooley spelled it out pretty well but definitely feels like the closest comps to each other as HS QBs. Honestly I felt like in both cases they were better passers than runners as HS QBs, with the only limiting factor really being their size. I think Jimerson is tall enough that if he has what it takes to be a good college QB, his height alone won’t be enough to negate that. White’s height unfortunately was most likely enough to negate his QB abilities at the college level.
-
Considering we were the only school offering him at QB when he decommitted from TCU who recruited him as a receiver, allowing him to play as a true freshman as a likely progression towards being the starter as a sophomore is as good a situation as any true freshman could walk into. If the understanding was that he was going to be the starter year one, we wouldn’t have gone after Poffenbarger the way we did.
-
If nothing else, would like to see some wildcat stuff next year. Really felt like our run game would’ve benefitted from some more QB runs this season and Morris had the wheels but not the durability to do it. Jimerson could add that wrinkle while gaining experience and keeping extra hits off of Poffenbarger.

Kinne speaks truth on NIL Reality
BillySee58 replied to meangreenfaninno's topic in Mean Green Football
Kinne makes almost 10X as much as the average Sun Belt HC made in 2006. Inflation since then overall has been about 50%, but he’s making 1000% of what the average Sun Belt HC was making. I’m sure if you gave him the chance to go back to the way things were back then, there’s zero chance he would take that type of pay cut to do so. Coaches love to reap the rewards of how much more money is flowing in the sport but bemoan the effects of players rightfully getting some share now. -
Breaking: North Texas lands Miami QB Transfer (Free)
BillySee58 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Are we sure it’s not an upside? No way Chandler Morris comes here in a pre-portal world. Also, decent chance we have better QB play from 2023-2025 than just about any 3-year stretch in program history. The only periods that rival the last two years are Fine’s 2017-2018, then maybe Maher and Ramsey. -
Maybe the JACK/hybrid position that Briceon Hayes and Issiah Nixon played for Cassity this year.
-
There’s nothing to get over. It’s just perplexing trying to understand why you two whine about the current state of the transfer portal and NIL completely year round. No new dialogue or talking points, just the same rehashed frustration.
-
This is so tiring, guys. Over and over, we get it. Matthew Moore didn’t play at all here for two years then hit the portal. At the very least strongly encouraged to transfer.

Here's a thought (sarcasm intended) on Uniforms

Many of them know they AREN’T going to the NFL and this is the best time to capitalize on their abilities monetarily. -
Breaking: North Texas Makes Skyler Cassity Hiring Official
BillySee58 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Who would’ve been a better hire? -
Part of it is he just can’t create his own shot. Showed signs of being able to in Florida but otherwise he’s pretty reliant on the looks he is getting from other players.
