  1. Gunnell hasn’t passed Aune (yet), but it sure seems that he has passed everyone else.
  2. Even from the people I see hyping up Gunnell, I often don’t see much of a deep dive on his body of work. To your point, a lot of hoping he can be a guy who solves the issue and relegates Aune to the bench. But again, even the guys you are mentioning there had not actually proven anything on the field beyond getting signed out of HS by a P5, except Harvey. I think we’ll be fine with Aune or Gunnell. I just think failing to mention Gunnell’s actual experience doesn’t paint a fully accurate picture.
  3. When a true freshman comes in and throws for 3,300 yards with 25 TDs against 8 picks, they’re the guy. That’s like Mason Fine senior year numbers out of a true freshman. I just think you can scrutinize that AND make mention of his actual body of work that he has put together on a D1 field. Especially when lumping him in with the other D1/P5 transfer QBs we have landed previously. Because if we’re gonna group him with those guys, we actually should compare them beyond just “former P5 QB.” And again, this isn’t just me criticizing you specifically. I just think as a whole most on the board are describing Gunnell as another P5 transfer like the others previously mentioned. I know not every poster can be amalgamated into one, but it does seem to reek of hypocrisy how we say high school accolades don’t matter on one hand, then on the other group Gunnell in with the other QBs solely based their similarities in high school accolades while ignoring how different their college bodies or work are. Just think it needs to be mentioned more.
  4. On one hand, it seems foolish to pin hopes on a transfer QB after seeing transfers QBs not work out. On the other, it’s also short sighted to lump Gunnell into the pool of past transfers without distinguishing how much more of a body of work he has as a college QB compared to the other P5 transfers we have brought in. Gunnell is just shy of 1,900 yards with 15 TDs against 3 INTs while doing it at a 66.5% completion mark. Ruder was coming in with 10 career passes thrown. One D1 pass for Alec Morris, and zero for guys like Gilmore and Berglund. I’m all for the approach of not anointing him too early, I just think too often Gunnell is brought up as just another P5 QB transfer like he’s the same kind of pickup as the others. There’s more nuance to this than just “the other P5 transfer QBs haven’t worked so let’s not get our hopes up too high on this one either.”
  5. He also had a video of the QBs in a drill. Order was Aune, Earle, Gunnell, then Ruder.
  6. Great game. Tough finish.
  7. I have only myself to blame for not knowing better.
  8. I thought when the season ended that I had been freed from the affliction of watching Thomas Bell shoot threes and free throws.
  9. Definitely. Especially today against what was obviously a very pro K-State crowd in Wichita.
  10. Given how late we are in the process, the danger in just using it on someone you think you can develop is that if they aren’t good they just can end up eating up that scholarship spot for years. For example, last year our late addition was Bryce Zephir. He still technically has 3 years of eligibility left. When he played last year he looked like a guy who had a long way to go to become rotation player caliber. Maybe he improves a lot, maybe he doesn’t. Looks like we sent out a late offer for Yaxel Lendeborg. Definitely possible we fill that spot.
  11. Technically you could use it in both cycles if the player you used it on leaves after this season. You get the lesser of 13 spots or however many spots you have available each class. Not like football where there is a class limit that could prevent you from reaching the overall team limit.
  12. We still have one left. Looking like we’ll go into the season with 12 of our potential 13 scholarship spots filled.
  13. He already pointed out Vermont and LBSU. I completely missed UNCW in the draw. They have had some good years lately. I remember it was between us and them on Deng Geu and they were coming off a similar season then.
  14. Missouri State was 23-11 last year in the MVC.
  15. He has committed! 4th commitment of the 2023 Class.
  16. As soon as someone tweets at Matthew Brune and/or Gabe Brooks and asks them to.
  17. Last I remember reading is that through the portal you can add the lower of: The amount of players you have leaving through the portal or 12 without them counting towards your 25 spots.
  18. Yeah and with other fans it’s one thing. I can’t help but feel that Littrell is mentally falling in that camp as well. The last two recruiting classes we have not received many commitments/signings from the high school ranks despite seemingly recruiting as many kids as before. I get the feeling that Littrell wants to only sign 10-12 high school kids a year, but build relationships with more to set us up with potential portal transfers down the line. I think the strategy is logical and I’m sure many G5s will do this. I just fear we are killing momentum that we worked very hard to build up at the high school level. And frankly have had more success with than we have with the portal.
  19. Not gonna argue he loses some luster on his Mean Green legacy. The larger point I’m trying to make is that he gave us 4 seasons, include 3 starting seasons, same for Brammer, and that benefitted us more than him leaving hurt us. Fans can hate them for leaving, I don’t care. But obviously I look at things from the recruiting angle and Brammer and Davis seem to invoke fear of recruiting high school players now. We can’t look at the signees in this age as “not working out” just because they Transfer. What did they give us while they were here? Not saying you are making this claim, just clarifying my point. I’m not saying both move back to Mike. Just one of them. Most likely Wood, like you said. But the positions aren’t that different. The best two will be on the field, which could be Brown but only if he’s better, not just because that’s where he was in the spring and they weren’t.
