  1. Greer had been in the program longer than that. He was here in spring 2014.
  2. Smith is pretty surprising to me. He must really be struggling picking up that playbook. As for Means, I've seen very little of him but what I do know of him screams accuracy issues. Less than 50% completion percentage in high school for an FBS commit QB, 6-15 in his second spring game, and even the videos. https://twitter.com/meangreenfb/status/634013464143368193 I (and we) need more to accurately judge him, but I just haven't seen many good signs. Maybe the cameras haven't done a good job of showing his good moments.
  3. Yeah, his best shot would've been going to a juco this year. Not dropping divisions.
  4. Why wouldn't we care and want to keep up, at least to a small degree, with what's going on at other schools in our own conference?
  5. But if he committed here he would have an offer from us, giving him 3 total which isn't bad. Especially from a lower-exposure high school program (compared to the metroplex). Even though I've hoped we would recruit this kid for a while, I will say that I'm not going to pull a double standard and bash the staff for not offering this kid. But I will say that if we would've gotten him, or maybe do end up getting him, I would've been happy with the pickup.
  6. Pretty quick for Keenan. He could be the starting tackle opposite Miles next year, which would give the young guys like Woodworth more time to develop.
  7. Yes, but I'll admit I haven't watched Preston's seniors highlights in a while. His junior highlights really weren't very good, but I do remember him making an impressive leap his senior year, and local writers noting such as well. Not many players in this class do I like better than Brooks. I don't know that you'll see much pressing from that side just because of how much ground they have to cover over there.
  8. With Grindle not making it in I think he has a shot. If I had to put money down right now and predict our 2016 starting corners I'd say Brooks starting opposite Chad Davis. With no Grindle plus Buyers and Marshall being seniors (I think Davis starts over Marshall this year), we'll see the coaches grooming someone to take over as that far-side/field corner. Should be interesting to watch between Brooks, Preston, Andrew Jones, and potentially Ced Fernandes in that role.
  9. I'm really high on Nate Brooks. I think he was a steal. He's very skinny but he packs a punch and is very fluid for a 6' corner. He doesn't rank high on my offer list rating (just us, La Tech, and SFA) but I love his game.
  10. Fetty Wap only has one eye http://www.musictimes.com/articles/37821/20150506/fetty-wap-clears-up-rumors-left-eye-trap-queen-performance-glaucoma.htm
  11. I don't really see much raw talent with Means, or confidence. This staff has signed a juco QB 4 out of 5 classes. Could be more of that going forward, which would explain why no QB offers this class or last class (besides Chumley). If Means is going to start then it'll have to be because he starts making more progress than he has. If he doesn't and he just starts by default then we won't be in very good shape.

  14. At the very high risk of sounding like a football ouche day, it shouldn't take more than a couple throws on Chumley's highlight tape to tell you that he isn't a D1 QB.
  15. With Canales being relatively close to getting fired last year I think since last season ended he put his foot down and basically said "if I'm getting fired then I'm going down with my offense, my plays, and my players." An up-tempo offense had been talked about plenty in the past, but had never really been implemented the way we were expecting. It just looked like the same thing. Put a tall, prototypical pocket passer behind center, line up with two tight ends and a fullback, pound the ball and run play action. Anyone looking at Canales' body of work could tell that wasn't what he wanted to do. Since the end of last year he went out and got a dual-threat QB who isn't that tall but will not have to be throwing from under center as much, and has gone full-on into this type of offense. Canales is coaching for his job, so if we're running a bunch of power from under center then it'll be because that's what he wants to do. Not just what Coach Mccarney wants to do.
  16. SFA definitely didn't outrecruit us for this kid. But they did pass us in the team rankings on 247 with this commitment, dropping us to 141st.
  17. Yeah, when I see stuff like that, plus his high school numbers, and the fact that the only person Means has been ahead of in two spring practices has been walkons and Chumley, it really makes me wonder why we aren't going after a high school QB this class. I'm starting to think maybe Means and Chumley should be switched with Dillman. They're both young, but I'm just not seeing the progress.
  18. It was starting to look like we would have a chance last year against Texas. The best team we've beaten on the road under Mccarney was the 4-8 Louisiana Tech team when we had our 2013 bowl team. We need to start winning some games on the road before we worry about Tennessee.
  19. With McNair you have to wonder how/if he would've been able to stay in football shape where he needs to be after a summer by himself. I could see him being a redshirt guy for that reason. If he is playing early in the season then he's a stud and did a great job taking care of himself.
  20. No longer listed on the roster
  21. Kevin Patrick is absolutely relentless. Best recruiter on this staff, IMO. This wasn't necessarily q great job of recruiting, in the sense that it doesn't sound like we out recruited any schools at the time of his recruitment to UNT, but that's an outstanding job of finding a kid like this in another state.
  22. This one was very interesting, but actually getting him is really cool.
  23. All beer tastes the same. Cool cans, though!
  24. Commits to Texas State. Big-time get for them.
