Can we hire the guy we should have hired in 2010 now?

Outscored by 69 total that year, by 46 through the first four games. We've been outscored by 113 through 4 games this year.

If this coaching change happens I really hope the next guy retains KP

RV's guilt-trip comments about how he's brought in the right coaches so people need to show up really ticked me off then. Now they just look foolish.

This situation has to be awful for recruiting. I wonder how hard Chico is recruiting knowing his contract very likely will not be renewed. And then that makes it hard in general. We usually get a few commitments during the season. I would be surprised if we got one this year. Probably won't see us going after any QBs anytime soon, not that our staff made an effort to begin with during this cycle.

DRC Monday column: UNT has tough questions to answer
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Also, same offseason, from a recruiting perspective we kept hearing during and immediately after the bowl run that the recruiting impact would not be felt until the next class (which was the class of 2015), yet we absolutely squandered a chance to capitalize and we never actually saw an uptick in recruiting. We actually saw a worse class, from an offer list standpoint. Not just finishing the class that way in February after the team had finished with a 4-8 season, but in the summer prior to our 4-8 season when we should've been competing with better programs for recruits, we were getting commitments from players with one or no other FBS offers. That was a huge momentum killer for this program, whether you follow recruiting or not. Now we are sitting on two commits for our current class, very little recruiting effort, and potentially having to fill 23 spots while pitching a program coming off double-digit losses heading into year six of Mccarney. -
Yeah, he said teammates. Like, said the word teammates, not just implied it. Not surprisingly he deleted it.
-
I think that's very possible. It's a win that would have extremely low translatability to more wins, and probably wouldn't help the passing game develop much, but I would imagine that's completely secondary to Mccarney at this point. So I pretty much expect it.
-
It's completely inexcusable, but I think we win. They really don't throw the ball well enough, and I think Jeffery Wilson can take over this game. It's sad that I'm confident because it's a good matchup, and not just because it's an FCS school.

I guess this was the point (after last year's UAB game) I really took a look at things from a broad perspective. I've been keeping an eye on this since and after what has happened here's where we stand with the hires we've made in the last decade in revenue sports: WBB: - 25-67, Stephens (2008-2011) - 15-16, Aston (2011-2012) - 28-61, Peterson (2012-2015) 68-144 total MBB: - 12-20, Benford (2012-2013) - 16-16, Benford (2013-2014) - 14-17, Benford (2014-2015) 42-53 total Football: - 6-37, Dodge (2007-2010) - 22-27, Mccarney (2011-2014) - 0-4 Mccarney (2015) 28-68 total Total combined: 138-265 127 games under .500, and that includes FCS and non D1 victories. 1 winning season out of 18, and that doesn't include this season which we are not mathematically eliminated from a winning season yet.

Teams have thrown the ball 121 times on us this year. We have picked off 0 passes. 11 touchdowns allowed vs. no interceptions.

Proven commodity is debatable. He's had some big-time DC jobs, but he's been let go time and time again. That's a risk you run when you get a guy who has had a job at a big-time school. He hasn't done a good job. Plain and simple. But I can respect giving him time and the benefit of the doubt. As for the injured excuse, I've said it before but the guys who are injured were former walkons. Like I said before, very good former walkons, and not average former walkons, but he's got all the signees to work with. The signees not being good enough is not his fault since he's new. So I think if you're going to make an excuse for him it should be on the coaches who recruited his defense, not on bad luck from injuries.

Turn Your Shirts Inside Out For Homecoming
BillySee58 replied to UNT90's topic in Mean Green Football
I wish more players would realize this. From some of their statements they get more motivated by the fact that the fans, who do care, make critical statements because they're disgruntled. It's like they would rather do good to give us the metaphorical finger vs. do good feeding off our support and giving the alumni and students who don't care or support them the metaphorical finger. If that makes any sense. -
Study on the effects of firing a losing coach - not good!
BillySee58 replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Making one good hire is a hell of a lot more likely than winning a lottery. We're talking about, with a good AD, maybe a 50/50 chance versus worse than 1 in 1,000,000 chance at winning the lottery. Well, I guess that depends what you mean by winning the lottery. Winning the jackpot is actually more like 1 in 100,000,000. -

No one said he was bad. Just saying most people on, say, rivals who claim a 4.4 or 4.5 that isn't verified would probably struggle to get under a 4.6 at a camp on a laser-timed 40. This guy ran a 4.98 laser-timed 40 just a little over a year ago, and he's obviously not slow. That's not a good time, and he could probably do a good amount better, especially now, but that's faster than most realize because so many have claimed fast 40 times that they couldn't actually run in a laser-timed 40. -

Right. We're not saying he's slow. We're just saying he might run maybe a 4.7 laser-timed 40, and he's obviously fast, and that a legit laser-timed 4.7 is faster than most people think. Because so many players have claimed times like 4.4 or 4.5 in the past on profiles like rivals, people think a 4.7 laser-timed is slow, when it's not. -

I think most on this board, and in general, are still used to just listing some spare hand-timed 40 time and going off that. When people would give times that were not valid, so now when pepole hear anything above 4.6 they think that's slow because illegitimate 40 times devalued a truly run, laser-timed 40 of that speed. -

Here is the reality of our situation (long)
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree that the offense is not producing and that we won't win games if they don't step it up, but by no means does the defense get to use the injury excuse, IMO. We have Kenny Buyers out, Cedric Fernandes out, and Blake Bean missed last game. All three are former walkons. They're all very good and key players, but losing guys you didn't recruit is not a valid excuse. The guys playing were recruited, and if they aren't producing then that's on the coaches. That's not just bad luck from losing players. I don't want that excuse to be bought. -
Absolutely. H-town says it all the time, we're recruiting with outdated methods.
-
If this staff wanted a QB this class they would've started offering them months ago. I don't know why they wouldn't want one this class, but I can't say they've really made a single good move yet with regards to QB recruiting since they've been here.

Usually with local kids if they aren't offered early then they won't be offered at all, unless plan a-d fell through. I wouldn't expect an offer here.
