You clearly do not “got it” if you think I have classified anyone calling the article misleading in here as “slandering.” But that’s par for the course when it comes to your misinterpretation of posts. Again, this time as clear as I can be, what I am poking fun of: People acting like it’s some ridiculous article just because Vito didn’t “well actually” the stats that he pulled and asked questions regarding. What I am not poking fun at: The idea itself that there’s more to the surface level stats (which I agree with).

Sure, we could have a nuanced conversation about an inconsistent QB but we’re talking about Brett Vito and Seth Littrell here. Vito is the beat writer, not a Pro Football Focus analyst giving us his in-depth film analysis and grade on Aune’s play. He’s reporting factual statistics and where they rank, as well as giving us quotes. That’s what reporters do. It’s not an opinion piece. That’s why I’m poking fun of people’s reactions to it. I’m not saying people are wrong to dig deeper on face-value stats. I’m implying their reactions are silly in implying this is some propaganda piece just because a 3rd-party beat writer is factually reporting where a QB’s statistics rank and the QB’s own head coach is being complimentary of his player.

I, for one, think it is the team head coach and beat writer’s jobs to actually slander the starting quarterback and tell us all how he sucks and I’m appalled when they don’t do just that.

Would you prefer getting 3rd string P5 guys who have no college experience as the rule? Those seem to be the two most accessible routes in the transfer portal for a program like ours.
-
I know he wasn’t a Reffett recruit, but Nate Brooks was someone I kind of took for granted here. He had 6 picks at cornerback his senior season in 2018. All of our cornerbacks in the 3.25 seasons since then have combined to total 3 picks. And beyond that, it’s a pretty clear reflection on how closely covered (or not closely) they have been on opposing receivers.

Last year against Northwestern State in our first home game, we had a multitude of game day issues during that game. The stats completely cut out, both on that video board and even the official stats. I remember Baker’s message was that it was the first game and there were a lot of new people in new roles and they were working to resolve the issues. Very discouraging to still be having issues on something seemingly so basic.

I missed that. Thanks

Also, Nick Nakwaasah (transfer from FCS Central Arkansas) appeared to be one of our starting safeties in the spring. I don’t even think he has suited up yet. Not sure if it’s injury or what, but I’d like to see someone like him have a chance at giving us a fresh new body back there.

Through 3 games we have defended against 111 passes and don’t have a single interception to show for it. Really not even any almost interceptions. In 2021 we had 6 interceptions (2 by LB Kevin Wood and 1 by DT Dion Novil) In 2020 we had 7 interceptions (4 in one game off of UTEP’s backup QB) In 2019 we had 4 interceptions I get that we seem to play a bend don’t break defense, and maybe don’t coach our DBs to be as aggressive, but at some point you need guys to make big plays.

I was very disappointed when Wren Baker addressed the failures of last weekend and did not mention this. Basically all he mentioned was parking. I had that feeling as soon as I read his email that this issue would be completely glanced over, and it was. 1/3 of our 2022 home games are done and that video board is still displaying 2021 stats.

I wouldn’t be mad about Fuente, but it is pretty discouraging to see the state he left that Va Tech program in. I feel similarly about Kevin Sumlin.
-
He was at Shippensburg, then Gundy gave him a chance to be the OC at Oklahoma State where he was the OC from 13-18. Since then he has held OC or similar roles at Ohio State, Texas, and now Penn State.
-
Not sure if his name has been thrown out, but my guy I’m hoping for is Mike Yurcich. Seems like he has a really good mix of smarts, work ethic, articulation, and ability to get a lot out of players.

Yes, they were letting people pay the blue lot fee at the lot. I came to the lot on Bonnie Brae after waiting in a long line and the only people attending that entrance to the blue lot were cops, who did not care for the explanation that blue lot passes were prepaid. They just told us our only option was to go to the orange lot.

For me it’s all about options. Apparently we really wanted Joey McGuire last year when it was looking like Littrell was going to get canned. We could’ve fired Littrell at 1-6 and maybe got a deal done with McGuire before Tech did. Instead they beat us to the punch. Maybe we don’t get McGuire even if we fired Littrell midseason last year. Point is, if there’s a guy we really want, don’t let 7-5 stop you. Especially if the 5 losses are more of the SMU variety where we aren’t particularly competitive against our future AAC opponents like SMU, Memphis, UTSA, and UAB.

Geez. I missed that, and hopefully most other people did too. In 2020, our last game of the season was against UTEP and that board was still showing stats from the SMU game that had been played nearly 3 months prior. First game of the season last year against Northwestern State it completely stopped updating in the first half. Those are just the two I remember off the top of my head but I know they aren’t the only ones. Problems happen, but our inability to get these issues corrected in real time is embarrassing.
-
This was my experience. Also, why wasn’t the corner end zone scoreboard/monitor showing stats or anything besides the team logos? That monitor seems to always have issues. In the past it either stopped updating the stats it showed, or was showing stats from previous games. The worst part is, like nearly all of our gameday issues, if an issue exists then you can be damn sure it won’t be fixed throughout the game.

Can you really trust a man named Billy? -
If Seth wins agasinst a big home crowd as an underdog against SMU can he be forgiven for his past failures?

DRC: Here’s UNT’s depth chart for its game against SMU
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree. We have generally done a good job of keeping the top performers from those 19-21 recruiting classes that were at or near the top of CUSA, and we have swapped out the underperformers with guys from the portal. By my count we have about 11 guys who are 3+ year starters, plus our kicker and punter. This 11 also doesn’t include Adaway, Crosby, and some other guys who have starting experience back to the 2020 season. Yeah the number could be even higher if we had been able to keep the Murphy twins and Jacob Brammer, but it’s still very impressive continuity, especially in the era of the transfer portal. 11 starters in their third season of starting, and we still have a lot of eligibility among our starters. Only 5 of our starting 22 are seniors. 6 if you count Aune. So that continuity should pay dividends beyond this season. -

Back to the copy/paste depth charts that don’t really get updated until players are officially reported as injured. -
****OFFICIAL UNT VS. UTEP IN-GAME DISCUSSION***
BillySee58 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We also will be at home vs. on the road. I agree we will need to play a lot better to win. But I think, assuming a normal 1st game to 2nd game improvement, we look on track to at least keep it competitive. We played them close for 3 quarters in Dallas last year and I like our current team more. -

Which is why I said no reason we can’t keep it close, and why I didn’t say we should do the same to SMU.
