  1. Exactly. I disagree with Harry's initial point, but he caught himself at the end. There is no point hurrying this process along. We aren't going to hire someone away in late November who we wouldn't be able to a few weeks later. If there's a chance they could sign somewhere else during that gap, they won't be so hasty to sign right when the season ends. RV said on the podcast his strategy is to announce the new coach right after the season ends. Unless that's a guy like Brad Smiley coming from a juco, that's not happening.
  2. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/ucf-knights/os-ucf-coach-george-oleary-retires-20151025-story.html Another coaching job opening up.
  3. This past class under Coach Mccarney we offered almost exclusively to players who already either had P5 offers or had a lot of G5 offers and were borderline P5 prospects. Part of that was because our staff was lazy and was very late to the party with many kids. Mccarney also stated that he didn't look at kids' offer lists when looking at who to offer. That might explain why he would offer some of these kids after they already had 20+ offers. This staff was a complete trainwreck when it came to the spring and summer evaluation period. That's why they decided to almost completely forego early recruiting. Another year of Mccarney and Grant as the recruiting coordinator would've been extremely detrimental to the future of this football team. It's imperative this hire can recruit well, and not just recruit well to good situations, but be a guy who is genuinely a good recruiter regardless of his product.
  4. Our athletic director came on the gomeangreen podcast and stated pretty clearly that Canales wasn't viewing this as a job audition, and that RV was not going to consider him either. Here's an audio link, not sure when he says it: http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/podcast/gmgpod152.mp3
  5. He's actually good
  6. He is a huge, huge reason why I'm frustrated at the thought of RV making the next hire. I don't want to see these next two years be wasted. I truly believe Wilson could rush for 2000 yards in a season if he could stay healthy and we had an offense that best utilized his strengths.
  7. Most talented player on the team. Still sticking with that statement. Keep finding those under the radar kids out east.
  8. He won 9 games the year before, so obviously it's possible to get the players needed to win in here.
  9. Does anyone know how to restore this link for the article in the OP? I can't access this chart for the life of me.
  10. All I saw was the beginning, and he had this segment about how uncanny the similarities between Paxton Lynch's game and Colin Kaepernick's game was. I was like, "is this dude serious?"
  11. I forgot that holds true for every single TCU and Texas A&M fan. And in my scenario the A&M fan isn't aware until it is brought to their attention. There are plenty of fans of other schools like TCU who are college football junkies and would hear of the story.
  12. I think this is an overreaction from the people who oppose it. For people opposing it because they think: A - It will look bad an cause a black eye for the university B - It will look bad on our program and deter coaches and/or recruits from coming here C - It's in poor taste IMO the only one debatable is C. It's not going to hurt our University or look bad on us anymore than having what most perceive as a joke of an athletics program. Most recruits who the new coach will pursue after he gets hired and in future classes honestly probably won't even know it happened. They'll be too busy tomorrow hanging out with friends and watching the games every other non-UNT fan watches on Saturdays: the ones on ESPN, CBS, etc. Here's a couple conversations for people outside the gomeangreen community if they hear about this: UNT Student A - "Did you hear about the banner that flew over the football stadium on Saturday?" UNT Student B - "What did it say?" A - "Fire somebody." B - "Fire who? I thought they already fired the coach." A - "The athletic director, I think." B - "Who is he?" A - "I'm not really sure. I think he's like, in charge of all of the sports, and helps coach them or something." B - "Oh. Maybe they should fire him. They suck." Conversation the following Monday at the water cooler between TCU grad and A&M grad, after they've exhausted talk about their schools but still don't want to start working: TCU grad - "Did you hear about that banner they flew over the stadium at the UNT game?" TAMU grad - "No, what did it say." TCU grad - "It said to fire their athletic director." TAMU grad - "Oh, really? I thought only fans of schools who cared about athletics did that type of stuff." TCU grad - "I guess their fans are finally fed up with all that losing." TAMU - "Yeah, I don't blame them. I think they haven't won a game all year, or something."
  13. The other argument is that RV couldn't sign a coach for more than Bataille's salary because she wouldn't allow it. She was making $498,000 when she resigned in 2010. The coach who won the Sun Belt last year, Willie Fritz, did so at $300,000 base salary last season, 7 years after Dodge was hired. Point is, like you said, with more fundraising we could've offered than Dodge, still been under Bataille's salary, and been able to afford a coach at the salary level of the reigning Sun Belt Coach of the Year.
  14. Just in case, I already have written a revisiting article to the last article Phillips wrote, about Andrew Mcnulty's official visit that was entitled "Family ties a factor." My article is called "Mccarney fired: Family ties a factor" Greg helped me right it before the season, and I've kept it updated with accurate facts since. Hoping I get hired soon. Don't want to lose its relevancy.
  15. Yup. Unbiased reading of their comments, who sounds more sane: RV or 90?
  16. A misconception I see on the board is that you can't get a good coach if you don't have the salary necessary to commit. I think a good AD can interview under-the-radar candidates and find one capable of winning here. Or, like you said, not letting him bring in his high school staff. We were much more competitive in Dodge's 4th year then we were under Mccarney in his 5th year. You couple the low committable salary with RV's inability to recognize good coaches through the interview process and be a good AD, and it's a disaster waiting to happen.

  18. I'm 90% sure every line for us this season has increased as each week went along because people were picking whoever we were playing.
  19. Basically, yeah. said Benford is a good coach multiple times on Harry's podcast, including last night, called Dodge a good hire, called Mccarney a good hire, and I guarantee he would (I think he already has) say the same thing about Peterson, because he had "good" records at previous jobs.
  20. It's like leaving after the homecoming game ends and you lose 66-7 to an FCS opponent, but then RV says not to complain about the game because the tailgating atmosphere was awesome.
