Another big-time job opening up. We aren't going to compete directly for them for our HC opening, but their job will create a big trickle down effect.
-
Thank you, RV. I look forward to many years of at least not going winless.

RV has done zero to make me feel that this is too harsh or unjust. Read what he actually says and any UNT fan who cares should honestly consider it personal. Because what he has been saying for a while has been nothing but disrespectful to people who have significant time, effort, and money invested to this.

fort worth star telegram UNT athletic director under fire
BillySee58 replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
We just had to be FBS to get into CUSA under the circumstances we did. Didn't even have to be a good program at all, even though we should be.- 50 replies

fort worth star telegram UNT athletic director under fire
BillySee58 replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Everyone thought Mccarney was he best thing since sliced bread back in January 2014. Except recruiting analysts and people who followed recruiting. It was a bad decision, even at the time. 3 years in he hadn't signed a QB to push Thompson in the least, his entire d-line was made up of guys he inherited, 6 defensive and 7 offensive starters were inherited from Dodge, and his best road win was against a 4-8 team. Factors that did not translate well long term, at the time. All RV could see was 9-4. And praise for getting into CUSA is honestly unwarranted. Said it before, but it would've been impressive if he could've got us in before SMU left, but he couldn't. We were the only DFW team left that hadn't spurned CUSA for a better conference. Those defenses for RV are filled with major holes. There's a reason we 0-7 in football, coming off not even making the CUSA women's tourney and losing by 30+ to a 10-seed in the first round of the men's tourney.- 50 replies

I never said this is who I wanted. I think he falls very much into your second category, and I see that being the type of hire RV gets. As someone who grew up a Tennessee fan, I would be very upset at this hire. Just think it would be a very RV hire.
-
I could see us offering Fritz but Georgia Southern matching. I think it'll be someone who has won as an FBS head coach before, like Mccarney. That way RV can say he hired the most qualified person and it wasn't his fault it didn't work out. I'll say Derek Dooley.

NT Daily Article: Attendance on the decline in 3 major sports

RV constantly lies. And I say that because, just like Sidway showed here, RV's lies are very easy to prove as factually innacurate. Yup. He's a professional. He's the beat writer for FC Dallas. -
NT Daily Article: Attendance on the decline in 3 major sports

“Do I worry about the decline? I think the decline happens at every institution when you don’t win as many games,” Villarreal said. “But I think there is a lot of positive talk about basketball right now.” What? From who? After basketball tanks it'll be "well, basketball hasn't gone the way we had hoped but there's a lot of buzz for the new football coach who is going to turn this program around." -

Actual attendance for WKU was 5,422. Yikes. -
2016 UNT Football Non-conference slate is out
BillySee58 replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
The more I think about it, I think number 2 is the correct one. According to this article by Vito, Liberty had agreed to play us in 2016. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/02/a-look-at-unts-future-football-opponents.html/ The little things like that really tick me off, at this point. The Lamar game wasn't removed, or moved. Just more laziness put out by this athletic department. -
2016 UNT Football Non-conference slate is out
BillySee58 replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
RV said on this podcast beginning of last month, around the 16:30 mark, that it was Liberty. http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/podcast/gmgpod146.mp3 Does that mean in the last month in a half this game has changed from Liberty to Lamar, now to Bethune-Cookman? -
Exactly. Or RV making it sound like we couldn't afford a coach worth a darn when we hired Dodge, who was tied for the third-highest paid coach in the SBC when he was hired. Yet he still lost to coaches who were paid less. And yeah, saying recruiting here is a hindrance is ridiculous. No one's expecting us to out recruit OU or LSU for the top kids over here. The best part about recruiting here is there are so many good, CUSA-level prospects who the big schools will still pass on. For that reason I'm really glad Mccarney is gone. But the self-loathing doesn't end with him.

It's sad how all of these excuses made by RV and Mac seem to cause our own fanbase to sell ourselves short.

I thought RV had said on the podcast earlier in the year that it would be Liberty. -

I'm pretty sure it's in Florida, and they're the Bobcats or wildcats, I think. Some sort of cat. I'll go with bobcat. edit: dang, should've gone with wildcat. -
I had a long post typed out but I decided I've done enough elaborate posts on why RV is bad at hirings. Basically, he's made it very clear in his recent comments that he feels the Mccarney hire was a good one at the time, partly because some media had it as the second best hire in the country, and that Dodge was a good hire at the time given the circumstances and even Bill Parcells praised it. I've also heard the defense laid out for the Peterson hire based on him winning at other jobs. From what I've seen RV say and do, it's pretty clear to me he doesn't do a good job of making sure coaches have traits and abilities that will translate well to this particular job. He just looks for what can be perceived as good resumes, and if they fail he can point back to something on their resume that somehow should make him immune from blame.
-
It's why people sound silly to me when they say "We need a guy who is this. We need a guy who is that." No. We need a guy who is a good fit here. Don't get too caught up in what you want in a coach, from a resume standpoint.
-
Sounded like it on the podcast last week, too. It feels like the beginning of the end. I know many want it to be the end of the end, but it really does have the feelings of a guy on his way out.
-
I hope so. This is their worst senior class in terms of FBS offers in a long time. Somehow they're still annihilating everyone like they have 10 FBS commits.

Sturm to start vs UNT not Bogenschutz
BillySee58 replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the defense got their confidence up last week against a true freshman QB, by finally not getting shredded. We should win this one. If not, uh oh. -
It's awful. I'm already seeing signs of this hiring going down the same road, with the same driver. Sad thing is, there is time to make a change. Especially when you consider all the dominoes that are going to fall with two of the premier job openings in all of college football (USC and Miami). During this most recent summer I saw our coaching staff recruiting like a staff that was about to be fired. I feel like I'm seeing those same early stages with RV in his job, and I do think he won't be here much longer. The frustrating part is that even if he's gone by the end of the school year, that would put him in position to make the next football hire and men's basketball hire. Which would mean we would have to suffer for his awful hiring beyond his actual departure.
-
I don't think he'd take a look at college until he wins a state championship. He's completely fixated on that.
