Yeah, per Vito blog entry we were his first D1 offer. Too bad Vito never did one on Wheeler. -
No conclusion were being drawn. Someone else brought up stars in a thread talking about which players Littrell is recruiting. Which again, indicates that he was not as familiar with Texas as we were led on to believe. But again, probably not going to be an issue for him with winning recruiting battles.
-
You also have to take into account that there are only about 30 five-stars every year, about 250 four-stars, about 600 three-stars, and well over 1000 two-stars if you're just looking at one of the four recruiting services. Collectively it's proven that five-stars get drafted at a higher rate than four-stars, four-stars get drafted at a higher rate than three-stars, etc. Individually the stars don't predict a player, but they do a good job collectively. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2015/5/5/8547409/nfl-draft-recruiting-rating-ranking

For a lot of people, one of the major criteria for our head coach during our search was a coach with heavy Texas ties for recruiting. It wasn't as big a deal for me as being a genuinely good recruiter, because those ties would make themselves, and ties to coaches don't necessarily land individual recruits. Based on the very early recruiting we have seen, I don't think Littrell has the Texas ties a lot of people had hoped for, or that he seemed to be touted as having. I think that's a big reason he kept both Patrick and Perry on the staff. So far we had 3 mid-term signees and they were two JUCO players from JUCOs that Perry recruits, and a grayshirt from last class. Also so far we've had a few out-of-state offers confirmed, and the in-state confirmed offers were to the QB from nearby Liberty Christian after he decommitted from Ok State and an East Texas kid (Perry's recruiting region). Another chunk of our early recruiting has been to players who were offered under Mccarney. So again, I don't think Littrell's Texas ties were anything special, but I don't think it's going to be a problem in recruiting. As long as he and his staff stay relentless and keep recruiting the area hard they'll build up a good reputation locally.

I'm guessing that ULM commitment is not so solid. Have you tried contacting the staff about him?

Devante Kincade - Transfer QB Target
BillySee58 replied to James329's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I don't think OU was ever an option. It looks like he's been following Houston and SMU coaches, in addition to us. If he has to sit out next year, then only have one year of eligibility in 2017 then his options can't be too great. -
As it is Kidsy hasn't produced to the level he needs to for him to really fit all three criteria solidly, and same for Goree. But they were highly recruited, have some experience (not a whole lot), and have the talent. Really hoping we get the production Kidsy is capable of this year, and definitely Goree going forward.

I've talked about my rating system for recruits based on offer lists. I've also talked about my 3 preseason criteria for our players to be all-CUSA. Those 3 criteria have been: 1. Be at least a relatively highly recruited player. Usually "B+" offer list or better (about 5 FBS offers or more). 2. Have a year of starting experience or a good amount of starting experience and rotational experience coming into the year. 3. Not be a bust. Offer list is kind of irrelevant if they are not living up to that/peaked early. Coming into last year we had exactly 0 players who fit that criteria. We had exactly 0 players make the all-CUSA 1st or 2nd team. In 2013 we had 6 all-CUSA 1st or 2nd team players, and 5 of them fit into all 3 of those criteria heading into the year (Orr, Bellazin, Trice, Y'Barbo, Lemon). The only one who didn't was Brelan Chancellor, but small skill players seem to be an exception to the offer list thing. They are lightly recruited because they're small, but they're job is to catch the ball and make people miss. Not impose their size on people. Coming into 2016 we now have some players who fit all 3 of those criteria, or at least semi-fit all three. Chad Davis, Jareid Combs, James Gray, Jeff Wilson, Chris Miles, Darvin Kidsy, Tee Goree to name some. Davis, Gray, and Wilson probably fit those 3 criteria the best, with Miles not too far behind but he's still young as a RS Sophomore O-linemen, which is hard to make it as. And then some good players who do not fit criteria number 1 but have played and produced plenty in Kenny Buyers, Kaydon Kirby, and Kishawn Mcclain. There's a better chance going into 2016 then there was going into 2015, at least according to this.

Gotta like our chances here, now. Kid has an offer list I love to see us going after. UMASS, Nevada, New Mexico, San Diego State, Texas State, UTSA, Tulane, and us. 8 FBS offers, and name one school on that list that we shouldn't be able to beat out for a DFW kid? I hope Coach Littrell fills our roster with these type of recruits. Pretty much what Western Kentucky has done. -
You're good. I usually watch the highlights using the hudl link on recruits' 247 pages after looking at their page, but for whatever reason that one was not the one that came up when I googled his hudl. Merry Christmas, man!

7 Of The 10 Eleven-Man 2015 Texas State Champions...
BillySee58 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Murray is gone because he wanted out. I never mentioned ratings once. Just offers. How a player turns out in college does not mean that they weren't elite athletically on the high school level. Signees don't pan out well at P5 college for many reasons, including off the field issues. But if they're getting P5 offers then they are elite high school athletes regardless of how their college career turns out. And that's what I've said the whole time. Elite high school athletes, not elite college players.- 63 replies

BillySee58 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
He also only started like 16 combined games, so those stats are closer to one full season than two full seasons, and as a true freshman and true sophomore. But yeah, I wasn't saying the kid is some all-conference P5 QB, although he has the talent to be after he sits out next year. FFR just made it seem like he was an example of a misevaluation by P5 coaches. Which was also about 3 FFR tangents away from the point I was actually trying to make.- 63 replies

BillySee58 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
He's a good runner, but 5.7 yards/carry and 80 rushing yards a game doesn't mean he's elite athletically. He wouldn't have multiple P5 offers as a receiver or running back prospect. Your observation on state championship offenses wasn't dismissed. You said Westlake had several elite athletes but still lost to a running team. I said no they didn't because elite athletes who get the college exposure that Westlake gives would have P5 offers. They don't. So lining up in the wishbone or power I doesn't make sense to increase their chance to win a state championship. No, you've definitely been twisting what I say. If my sworn enemy UNTLifer is saying you're twisting my statements then it's obvious.- 63 replies

Also not what I said. Just said they don't have an elite athlete to hand the ball to (like Anderson, as my example) but they have an elite passing QB (not running QB) so running the offense they did was in their best interest. Regardless of whether they won a state championship or not.- 63 replies

That's because he is a kid we already got. He signed last February under Mccarney. I said I agree. I just said that I like taking projects like these under somewhat similar circumstances, provided that it's just one or two a class and the rest are legit-FBS prospects who we had to out recruit schools to get. -

No I didn't. You said Westlake had several "'ELITE ATHLETES' and couldn't beat the run teams with them." You made it sound like they lost despite having elite athletes because they tried to throw the ball instead of power run it. They just lost. With Westlake's roster it made sense to run the offense they did, because they didn't have a player like Darius Anderson to hand the ball to 35 times.- 63 replies
