Starkel isn't announcing until February 2nd. He has a UCLA visit set up for the weekend Jan 15th, and he said he will take one more OV after that. If he were to choose to OV here, that wouldn't be able to happen until the weekend of Jan 22nd. Even if he committed that weekend (earliest possible time) the semester will have already started so we're going to have to make a decision on Kincade beforehand.

Because they hired an FCS coach. So ridiculous. I hope Withers wins a Sun Belt title there. Jim Tressel came from an FCS (1AA at the time) school in Youngstown State when Ohio State hired him, then he won a national championship a couple years later. I've said it before, but as long as we are in CUSA it's in our best interest to not exclude candidates just because they aren't this or that. Priority number 1 should be finding the right fit, which fortunately the early returns look good on the guy we picked. He was making a point that Ivy League schools don't give athletic scholarships. I was pointing out that if this kid's parents are sending him to Liberty Christian, and he's legitimately considering Yale, then there's a good chance they aren't too considered about Yale not being able to provide an athletic scholarship.

Tuition at Liberty Christian is more than UNT.

Kincade is 3 grades ahead of Starkel. I'm talking about whether or not to get another high school QB. I wonder if A&M will go after someone else instead of wait on Starkel. Unless he silent commits to them and just waits to announce until the 2nd.
-
February 2nd is tough. Do we wait for him and maybe not get a QB, or do we try and get someone else then just end up taking two of Starkel commits?
-
At the least, he'd come here before Tulane and ODU. Old staff wouldn't have even offered, much les out worked those guys. Hopefully we can get him in on an OV. Then who knows?

MGB: DeVante Kincade calls UNT his top choice
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Kohlausen signed with Houston out of high school. And he won one game. I don't see how that proves people wrong. A guy who was good enough to sign with Houston out of high school should be good enough by his fifth year to beat a team that is about as good as the team he plays for. -

Yeah, I know what you're saying but most programs sign good QBs every single class, and the good coaches like Herman can keep them. Despite how playing time may look.
-
Bingo I feel like recruiting sites should label QBs "dual-threat" or "mobile" QBs. In this day and age pretty much all QBs can run, even if they aren't a dual-threat. Watch Debiase's film and you can see he can hurt you with his legs, even if he isn't a guy who is a threat to rush for 100-yards in a game in college. And that goes for a lot of guys. I think you'll see us go after guys with varying degrees of mobility.

I think 07 West Virginia would be a better fit for that group

As a prospect, he was on a completely different level than Pegram. Pegram was a 2-star with just one P5/BCS offer (from Purdue). Stevenson was a 4-star with all kinds of P5 offers.

I doubt it too. He's got two grades of separation from Kyle Allen, so I doubt alone is enough to make him decommit

MGB: DeVante Kincade calls UNT his top choice
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Yep. It's to discourage players changing teams like free agents. If a player still has his redshirt available then he can use it while he sits out after he transfers. -
Coach Filani is just following him on Twitter. Not even close to a guarantee we offer.
-
Yes, and I'm beginning to think that may be the case. I think Littrell is no longer following Kincade. I've said it before, but the fact that Kincade would have to sit out a year then only have one season of eligibility left hurts his attractiveness to coaches.

I wasn't very familiar with their class, but I knew it was small and it still is (outside the juco signees). Receiver Jesse Ebozue visited here but was never offered under Mccarney. Mclin from Carthage would be good.

MGB breaking news: Bryce English to UNT
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
That's a myth. We did when they were legitimate cases that fit with precedent. Like Roger Franklin and Derek Thompson. Father having cancer would fit that, so he should still get it with the altered rule. -

Seems like a stupid rule to me. -

Really? I never heard that, but I don't keep up with NCAA rules very well. -

He probably will not have to sit out this year since his dad is battling cancer. -
Looks like we'll be able to add Bryce English to the list

MGB: Bryce English to announce destination Tuesday
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Big time -
The ones we have up there are the ones who we believe are legitimate. Johnson's commitment was leaked, but he denied it so that he could announce on his own time, which should be any day now. Should be to us, but he's said Tulsa is still in the running. Cokley's commitment was a weird one. There was never any announcement (i.e. on Twitter), he has never been recognized as a UNT commit, and Vito never did a story on him. He just showed up as a commitment one day on rivals, then 247 followed suit. There's no certainty that he's committed, much less was ever a commitment when Mccarney was still here.
