  1. Like I just told MGT, Gronk never played a down while Littrell was at Arizona because of injury, and Littrell didn't become OC until Gronk was in the NFL. I don't think he values the tight end all that much. He didn't use the tight ends much at North Carolina, and despite recruiting many JUCOs here he didn't bother to go after a juco tight end. Even though his three current tight ends have yet to play a meaningful snap, two are coming off redshirts, and none were very highly recruited at tight end. That tells me he isn't that worried if he doesn't get much out of that position. For that reason I don't see the harm in moving Dillman. Exactly. And I don't blame them either. And Littrell was technically his position coach, so it wasn't too much of a reach.
  2. Not only was Littrell not the OC when Gronk was at Arizona, but Gronk never played a down while Littrell was at Arizona. Gronk missed the entire 2009 season, which was Littrell's first at Arizona and Gronk's last.
  3. Yup. Raines is loaded. One of the best programs at producing D1 talent in the country, historically. Oh yeah, definitely not saying he's some hidden kid who didn't get enough exposure. I just think he's a step above the young guys on our roster (Means and Chumley) in terms of actually getting on the field with this coaching staff. It kind of reminds me of people saying there was no reason to give Dillman a chance at QB because of John Walsh. Would Mcnulty, Greer, Means, or Chumley ever been able to play QB for Walsh either? They certainly weren't able to get the offers he did. Same with Debiase. How innacurate would VT people thinks Means was, completing under 50% as a high school senior? I've never touted either of those guys against the rest of CUSA. Just against the other guys Mccarney brought in.
  4. What tight end are you referring to?
  5. They also got a QB commitment for their 2016 class about 9 months ago. They haven't been in the market for a 2016 QB since then. The Virginia Tech offer isn't on the table anymore either. But that doesn't mean he didn't earn two P5 offers. He's not very tall at 6'1", and if you're 6'1" and don't have elite speed then it's hard to get offered by a lot of schools. The fact that he was offered by two power 5 schools at any point, despite being 6'1" says good things about his ability to play on the conference USA level. And that's what we're asking him to do. Play at the conference USA level, and beat out QBs who have not yet shown the ability to contend for a job at the conference USA level. It doesn't exactly take an all-CUSA QB to beat out Means and Chumley, who are the QBs with eligibility remaining after Smith and Morris leave.
  6. Yes, he says he has known him for four years. http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/12/relationship-with-littrell-puts-unt-in-race-for-augie-debiase.html/
  7. Like Wag Tag said, also had a Virginia Tech offer. He also led his team to a state title game appearance and lost to one of the best programs in the country in Booker T Washington in Miami. He had a good senior year against some of the best competition in the country. Also, unrated on ESPN doesn't mean he's worse than a two-star or bad. They're just lazy outside of P5 commits. Tee Goree was rated a 3-star by 247, scout, and rivals, but unranked by ESPN. Not because he was a bad recruit, but because they're lazy. Also, after Morris and Smith leave the remaining guys have not shown much and were recruited by the old guys. Kevin Wilson was and still is the head coach there. If he didn't like Debiase then he wouldn't have been offered.
  8. If he commits he's probably the immediate front runner to start in 2017.
  9. Yeah, Brad Davis started following Fialoa and we still don't have a high school offensive lineman this class.
  10. I believe this is his first official visit anywhere. Should be a good fit for both sides.
  11. From the athletes side, nothing. But that's the same as a grayshirt. It's happened before where kids were going to grayshirt but we're then offered a chance to sign with another school. That's a risk you run with both.
  12. I just said the incentive to honor it. If you don't, it will become public and there goes that coaches chance of using the blueshirt method again. Word spreads quickly in the coaching community. Especially with modern-day social media.
  13. No, I can't imagine that's legal. The thing is, with Tennessee's blueshirts who I have followed, they normally have other offers and would bolt if their blueshirt was not honored. It would also become public and that would end that coaches chance of ever using that method again. Kids, when offered to blueshirt, would know about him not honoring it in the past and that would be it. Here's a kid Tennessee blueshirted. Would've gone somewhere else if it wasn't honored. http://247sports.com/Player/Vincent-Perry-32296?PlayerInstitution=63050
  14. We the fans are speculating. In the event of an actual blueshirt, there is no speculation on the player's part. He has agreed to come to the school with the condition that he will be put on scholarship before practice starts. But yeah, it's always looked more like a conventional PWO situation, and not a blueshirt. This makes it look even more like that. I believe Debiase's dad is a coach. I'm sure he has done his research on the situation and that there is no QB for the 2016 class yet. There is no PWO leading to blueshirt. They are only ever a walkon by technicality, and are out on scholarship before they practice. There is PWO leading to scholarship at some point. I'm starting to think PWO
  15. I think you'll see us recruiting Louisiana quite a bit with some of these new guys like Reffett, Brown, and this guy.
  16. He's the beat writer for FC Dallas, the MLS team. He's the sports editor for the NT Daily, the student paper.
  17. You mean all topics? Haha.
  18. We've had 8 all-conference players since we joined CUSA. 7 of them had 4 or more total FBS offers. The other was Brelan Chancellor who didn't have any. 1 who didn't have any other FBS offers against 7 who had various options. Look at our class of 2012. 13 out of 22 high school signees didn't list any other offers. You can figure who those are and judge how that went. Carlos Harris wasn't listed on rivals, but he was one of those 13 and 22. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/commitments/2012/northtexas-182
  19. No, he wouldn't miss out on any practice if he blueshirts. The benefit would be keeping that spot open in the 2016 class to sign any late qualifiers, or other players after National Signing Day. If he really were our QB for the class he wouldn't be blueshirting, IMO. I have said it before, and I do agree with Travis that a conventional PWO spot and not a blueshirt makes more sense.
  20. Yeah, there's a very good chance Vito wouldn't even be saying blueshirt if I hadn't been explaining it on here. Another poster did find out that the staff has been discussing the possibility of using the blueshirt loophole if need be. I would say a blueshirt is a scholarship offer, because it is agreed upon before signing day and the players only enroll because of the agreement that they'll be put on scholarship immediately. The recruiting websites are just relaying the offer they see from Vito's blog post. They haven't done any actual confirmation themselves. I agree we should get a quote, but I think if don't sign 25 (or at least close to 25) on signing day and Fine is still not included then it's a PWO. You're right in that there would be no reason unless we were full on scholarships.
  21. Yeah, @TravisUNT, Vito is the one that said at some point "later in their careers". That's not what a blueshirt is. A blueshirt is guaranteed a scholarship before they ever sit down on campus for a class. Not maybe after one or two semesters. A blueshirt doesn't have to pay for even a single semester of college. If they do, then they're just a PWO getting a scholarship. Again, this is from an article a couple years back when I was first learning about it from Butch Jones: The more intriguing and non-traditional option is blue-shirting. Here’s how I described it an earlier article: “Officially, a player arrives in the summer as a walk-on. Once football practice begins, he’s awarded a scholarship. The school is allowed to count the scholarship forward — against the 2015* class — but the player can play immediately. There’s a big catch: The student-athlete may not have been recruited, as defined by NCAA bylaws. That means no official visit to campus, no in-home visits from coaches, no signed National Letter of Intent or athletic aid.” *in our current case we would count him forward to the 2017 class. http://knoxblogs.com/evanseleven/2013/12/05/has-butch-jones-found-a-recruiting-loophole-vols-could-use-complex-stragegies-to-manage-brimming-class/
  22. We were 1-10 and it was senior day, plus Chico knew he wasn't coaching for his job. Why wouldn't he start Mcnulty on senior day? I don't know about the come to Jesus meeting. I personally saw it as Chico saying "I want Smith to be the guy, but since he hasn't outperformed everyone in practice I need him to understand that if I'm making him the starter then he needs to start showing it all week."
  23. I don't think Riddle was getting offered either way, but I'm also saying what was posted on the board. Not getting into saying people are lying in a situation where I don't have a reason to.
  24. And I know of cases where it was the opposite, not just with Riddle. Mccarney signed off on all the QB offers. You honestly think if Mccarney really wanted to offer that kid you always reference then he would just submit to Chico and walk away with his tail between his legs? Im not absolving Chico of blame. I don't think the QB results would've been any better if Chico was the one calling the shots. But at the end of the day, he was the OC, not the head coach. There's a reason Smith became the starter immediately after Mccarney was fired.
