'17 ATH Tyreke Davis (Denton Ryan) [LOI: NT]
BillySee58 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Thank you! Still planning on keeping everything up to date. Just not as up to the minute as it has been. Glad to see other people picking up the slack. Expecting a lot more commits this summer than we had last summer. Should be fun to track. -

Yeah, I've just been busy with my last semester of school and GMAT stuff. Plus with RV I've just lost a lot of motivation towards UNT athletics in general lately. And I start my full-time job in a month, so I knew last signing class would be the last one I'd be able to put a whole lot of time into. I just saw the CHHS kids. As far as getting a kid who a P5 school is actively recruiting, like that WR, I'll have to see this staff do it before I expect it. The QB looks like he could be a good option. Although I'm not expecting a whole lot more QB offers for this class. I think they're going to start to narrow things down and lock up a QB this summer. -

I've honestly paid very little attention lately, but it sounds like Ashton Preston, a 5'10 cornerback, is our rover right now. Also, JUCO LB Eji Ejiya, somewhere around 6'3" 220, said he was recruited to play that position during his recruitment. Sounds like we'll have different body types at that position, including Davis. -
Tyreke Davis - Denton Ryan 1st UNT Commit
BillySee58 replied to baberuthbomber8's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'm going to sound like 90 here, but ever since Vito forged a bit of a partnership with Perroni of 247 this has happened a couple other times. We get a commit who hasnt been ranked by 247 or anyone else, Vito tells Perroni, Perroni lists the commitment and slaps an 80 rating (baseline rating for a 3-star). Happened for Ozougwu and Mason Fine as well (Ozougwu was an 80 while Fine was a 79). That's a reason for us in particular I'm more concerned with offer lists. Not hating on Vito or Perroni, as it is good press for us. What I am impressed with is how this is nearly a month earlier than Mccarney ever got a commit, and about two months earlier than our first commit last year. Even if he doesn't have any other offer, that's a good job of pitching your program. Because the 80-rating was just given to him. Sometimes it takes the composite system a bit to kick in. -

Yes, but even then there are just more to go around for us. Like this chart shows, from 2011 to 2015, Texas had 1337 players ranked 3-stars or better. With 12 FBS schools, that's an average of 22.3 3-stars or better players each class per FBS school. West Virginia produced 10 over those 5 years with 2 FBS programs, for an average of just 1 3-star or better player each class per FBS program. 22.3 per class to 1. The numbers are overwhelmingly in our favor, even with all the competition. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football-recruiting/2015/4/15/8143431/states-most-players-recruits

I didn't see anyone saying they didn't have any impact on recruiting at all. As long as they were allowed, any team would've been foolish to not utilize them and would get left behind. I'll just speak for myself here, but I think the thing is the removal of these camps doesn't put any schools at any more of a locational disadvantage than they already had. La Tech and Marshall are brought up because they don't have proximity in their favor like we do. They don't have 150+ D1 recruits every year within 100 miles of their schools, yet they have out recruited us for years. Not just because they were able to benefit from satellite camps.

I'm gonna go with Tyler Wilson. Good hands and very elusive. I think he is one of our return men, and I think we see him at receiver as well. I had Nate Brooks as my under-the-radar true freshman contributor last year, and Mcclain and Tillman Johnson the year before, so I'm looking to keep my streak going. Although my picks in 2013 and 2012 were Wylie Reinhardt and Jamarcus Jarvis, so I'm hoping to break over .500.

“Quarterbacks usually make a decision earlier than everyone else,” Harris said. “I will make my decision after the second or third game of the year.” It's good that he understands QBs commit early, but I think he is a bit misinformed on what constitutes an early commitment. By the second or third game usually everyone who is taking a QB will have one by then. Late summer would be a better target for him, and I would be extremely surprised if we head into fall camp without a QB already committed. I'm sure our coaches will stress that as they begin narrowing things down.

I'm almost positive a redshirt cannot be divided amongst two separate academic school years. And he played for more than 30% of the games for SMU. "A special case involves the eligibility of a player who loses the majority of a season to injury. Popularly known as a medical redshirt, a hardship waiver may be granted to athletes who appear in fewer than 30% of team competitions (none after the midpoint of the season) then suffers a season-ending injury. Players granted such a waiver are treated for the purposes of eligibility as though they did not compete in that season." I don't think he has a leg to stand on for a hardship waiver even if he had competed in less than 30% of his team's games. Unless you can divide the redshirt, but pretty much all redshirt rules specify that it's to be done in one season.

Are you hearing that we get a year and a half of Frazier? Because I know in the past with medical redshirts a player has to play in less than 30% of his team's games (and obviously be out the rest of the way because of injury) in order to get a medical redshirt. Frazier played in 10 out of SMU's 30 games (33%), plus he wasn't injured so the way I see it his junior year of eligibility is done. But I'm not 100% sure. As for Underwood, money talks but his new job is also a noticeable step up from a conference, resources, and program standpoint so pay raise is far from the standalone reason for taking that job.

It might be. But that's not the only way. Look at what Cross and Beard make. Or Underwood, especially before his raise. -
MGB: Benford says he will be back, confident in future
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
He's already going to be a true senior next season. This season he was a junior and played in too many games to be eligible for any type of redshirt. If he plays for us next season after the first semester ends then that will be the end of his eligibility. -
Losses: Andrew Mcnulty, Damarcus Smith, Josh Greer Top Returners: None Additions: Grad Transfer QB Alec Morris, HS QB Mason Fine Other returning scholarship players: SO QB Connor Means, FR QB Caleb Chumley Here's the last part in this series I've been doing, as we start spring ball this week. QB was the most glaring weakness of the Mccarney era, when it came to recruiting. During the Mccarney era he signed nine quarterbacks in his five recruiting classes between 2011 and 2015. Those quarterbacks have combined to go 5-20 in 25 starts for North Texas, with awful statistical numbers as well. Early on it appears Littrell is already starting over fresh, with all three QBs who attempted passes last season now being gone. The overwhelming favorite to start at QB is Alabama grad transfer QB Alec Morris. Morris, just like every other QB on our roster, has yet to throw a pass in love game action since high school. However, Morris was very much in the QB competition at Alabama this fall before losing out to Jacob Coker and Cooper Bateman. That alone puts his college accomplishments far above the other guys we have. The plan will likely be to have Morris play every meaningful snap of all 12 games this year. If that can happen, the lack of depth might not be a big deal. However, if Morris can't get things done or gets injured, we might be looking at some rough results. As for the other QBs, Connor Means has yet to even make any noise on the depth chart. The same can be said for Caleb Chumley as well, who appears to be more fit to play another position but still has time and a chance to stake his claim at QB. Walkon Quinn Shanbour also appears to have a shot to compete for the backup spot. True freshman Mason Fine may redshirt or he may be asked to be the backup if that situation can't be solved in the spring. The potentially good thing for us this year is that if Morris can play well and stay healthy then this could be a strength. But the lack of depth hurts knowing that things don't usually work out ideally, especially in football and here at UNT. I originally had accounted for Damarcus Smith being the backup, so I had QB 5th, although it could easily be argued that they should be lower. Position group rank: 5th UNT unit rankings in review: 1st - Running Backs 2nd - Offensive Line 3rd - Defensive Backs 4th - Defensive Line 5th - Quarterbacks 6th - Linebackers 7th - Wide Receivers

To me "changing te culture" is just lip service. Our players' grades were as good as they've ever been. Not the only component of culture, but a big one that was done well by Mccarney. I'm not sure how much the culture needs to change, but I know the talent level needs to improve, and that's unrelated to culture.

MGB: Littrell talks QB race heading into spring
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
But in the article Littrell told Vito he's playing tight end/h-back. I would've thought he'd be more in the 230s for that role, but I guess they want him in the 220s. -
