  1. Let's get this kid some real quality burgers from In-N-Out, instead!
  2. We only have about 5 spots left in the class. Not enough for multiple d-linemen, linebackers, and DBs with room for offense. We're going to need to be very smart with how we use the remaining spots.
  3. Their shooting guard grabbed 15 rebounds on us
  4. From back in October Not my find, but yes he does
  5. 6'4" 250 lb offensive tackle from Seguin high school in Arlington. Visiting this weekend. We offered a while ago. Also holds offers from Texas State, New Mexico, Illinois State, and SFA. Committed to Texas State a while ago but his twitter profile indicates he may not be (has the tweet of our offer pinned and nothing about being committed in his header). 6. I think if you've done a good job establishing a relationship with that recruit then they aren't going to cancel their OV. Likewise, if you've built a strong relationship with them and they visit you first, you have a shot at setting the bar high and maintaining that even after the visit. Just like everything in recruiting, it all depends on that specific recruit.
  7. To have the best impression
  8. Great stuff! Hope they can make friends with the guys who aren't committed
  9. https://twitter.com/The_ChazDavis/status/818881499386748928 Grayshirting is when a recruit graduates in the spring, then delays starting their eligibility counter by not enrolling full-time that fall. This is just an early enrollment, like Connor Means and Brandin Byrd.
  10. I said he is on a different level as a prospect. And that's based on college coaches.
  11. Curl is on a different level as a prospect than those guys were. And yes, all those guys have done just fine on the P5 level. Charles Walker, the d-lineman you mentioned from OU, is in a position where he may be declaring early for the NFL draft.
  12. Let's quit acting like I ever said or implied that I know more about recruiting than our coaches. Trust me, no matter what we say or do on here, the experts are going to do their job. Whether we "sit back" or whether we post on here. But on football recruiting forums, people discuss recruiting. People didn't like when I was critical of Mccarney's recruiting the last two classes either. Not saying Littrell's recruiting will be on the level of Mccarney's, but I am saying that criticism, even if hypothetical, is welcome. Yeah, but I've still never heard of a program where the HC doesn't watch the film before the offer goes out. Maybe it isn't safe to assume we do things the same way, but in your hypothetical, SL would still deserve blame for not taking the time to watch the film.
  13. I saw him walk, so he did graduate. Not sure what he's doing now.
  14. I'm more concerned about roster and recruiting class management than I am about reputation. As JayD said, it is a lot more commonplace than it used to be. The problem is when you are tight on spots, other schools are too, and you waste months out of your recruiting cycle and that kid's recruiting cycle to have him as a commitment when you know they aren't really in your plans. It's unnecessary and doesn't help anyone. Don't accept early commitments from kids you aren't sold on. Or first, don't lead them on that you are sold on them to the point that they want to commit to you on a false perception. Again, easier said than done and I completely acknowledge it. Okay, but we have quotes from the kids that are not speculation. Sewell told Vito when the communication was cut off. Lutz told us why he committed and then later after his decommitment told us our coaches presented moving to tackle to him. Being upset about defined timing and statements is not speculation. I would say it all falls back on the head man. Unless we do things different than every other program I have known about, the HC has to sign off on all offers.
  15. My concern is that we're taking commitments we shouldn't be in the first place. With this kid, he never seemed to fit our offense, but based on what he said, he committed because he thought he'd be thrown the ball here compared to his other offers. But it seems the only way things would've actually ended up that way is if he had some miraculous leap forward as a receiver, and showed abilities that he hadn't previously, which he didn't. Then, when he appears to be the same player we knew he was when we accepted the commitment, we tell him (a 215 lb kid) that they will try to move him to tackle knowing he wasn't even considering schools that wanted him to be more of a blocking tight end. And the situations seem similar with Sewell and Donovan. To quote the late great Dennis Green, "they are who we thought they were." I have a hard-time believing our coaches were big fans of these kids, accepted their commitments, and then they suddenly just stopped showing the abilities that our coaches offered them based on despite not getting injured. And in the case of Sewell, he said we stopped contacting him before the season started and before he could've had a "bad season" or messed up grade-wise. Pulling offers from commits for non-grade reasons is almost always messy. Whether we basically tell a kid he isn't as good as they hoped he was like Donovan or Lutz, or just cutting off contact like with Sewell, it's hard to defuse the situation. Neither looks good, so I hope our coaches don't make this a trend. Recruiting is tough, so I recognize it's easier said than done. But it's definitely something they can stand to get better at.
  16. Honestly, then this thread should not be getting bumped. You've made valiant efforts to get him recruited by this staff and the former staff, and you know posting on here doesn't do anything towards making that happen.
  17. Not a fan of this. Having a bad senior season may be what the coaches are saying, but I don't buy that. What does having a bad senior season mean? I said the same thing with Donovan. Did this guy get smaller, slower, shorter? You don't drop a dude because he drops more passes or misses more blocks then you would've liked. Offers are based on projection of skills to the next level. If they were based on high school production alone, or even primarily, then we'd see a lot more offers for certain kids who have great stats but don't project well to the next level. I think the truth is the coaches are admitting that they misevaluated. As great as that is for them to admit that, it's bad practice for them to accept commitments only to cut ties when the players honestly are remaining the same and just not showing all the signs the coaches would've hoped for. If they're being so selective with commitments, then don't accept commitments from guys you aren't really sold on. Everyone saying Lutz wasn't a good fit, then why accept the commitment? The kid is only 215 lbs, so hoping he could gain 70+ lbs is an unrealistic failsafe. Plus, he made it clear a big part of why he committed was because he was under the impression he would be more of a pass catcher here. This is how you make a bad reputation with high school coaches. Hopefully it doesn't come back to bite us, and we make a good reputation with more schools than not.
  18. Going to Tennessee as a PWO
  19. Average fan following the program. But yeah.
  20. The last time I heard any bigger donor make excuses for Benford like that was after the 2014-2015 season ended, and that was Fly. Maybe not being in the MGC is why I don't hear from specific donors, but when you say "all we keep hearing" by we I assumed you meant the average fan who follows the program. And RV has been gone for almost 8 months, so we don't hear from him anymore. Heard, past tense, for sure. But again, that may just be me reading your words too literally. Let me put it this way, I've heard/seen you referencing these type of comments far more times than I have actually heard/seen them myself. Particularly in the past year. Semantics aside, I'll leave my point at that.
  21. Right. My apologies. I think the scuffle was the game before and then the next game was where Harris was done for good at halftime.
  22. Sure, RV would say that. But 90 said: "All we keep hearing" implied, to me, actual people/posters/fans who don't work in the athletic department. Maybe I just misinterpreted, but it just doesn't look like 90 was referencing only RV. Either way, my point was just that there aren't Benford supporters among the general fan base. People aren't sticking up for him. 90 fought that fight for a while, mainly with a couple posters, and it looks to me like he still is trying to even when there is no more opposition. After we dropped our third straight game in a tournament we hosted before thanksgiving, Harris was at the forefront of a scuffle in the tunnel and never played another minute for us.
  23. Still don't recall anyone non-ironically citing that as a legitimate excuse for Benford.
  24. Rice smoked Charlotte at Charlotte 89-70. The same Rice program that was the worst in the conference when we entered CUSA. They've really become a solid squad this year.
  25. Shanbour is still a walkon who has yet to throw a pass in division 1 game. And it sounds like Isadore is a PWO. Next two years at QB are not locked down if we could get someone worthwhile. That guy isn't going to be sawyer, though.
