Less than 10 full days out from signing day. Only one more weekend of official visitors left. We're really going to need to close hard down the stretch. Here is where we stand going off of my offer list scale: "C" - No other offers FBS offers (5): - Dakoda Newman - Evan Johnson - Junius King - Jordan Roberts - Hunter Gieser "C+" - 1 other FBS offer (4): - Jevin Pahinui - Cade Pearson - Brendon Weatherspoon - Kody Fulp "B" - 3 to 4 total FBS offers (6): - Manase Mose - Makyle Sanders - Trevon Bradley - Tyreke Davis - Tony Krasniqi - Jacob Brammer "B+" - 3 to 5 total FBS offers with noteworthy offers (2): - Jalen Guyton - Cameron Johnson 8 out of 17 "B" or higher (47%) That 47% mark of players with "B" or better offer lists (at least two other FBS offers) would rank as the lowest from a North Texas class since 2013. Last year we were at 56%, and in 2014 we were at 78%. Again, not an end all be all evaluation (no such evaluation exists) but it is a great depictor, in my opinion, of both how we're doing recruiting against other schools and also separating low 3-stars and 2-stars who are often evaluated and rated under inconsistent terms and from guys who have no incentive to spend substantial time evaluating kids who commit to a school that doesn't bring them any subscription revenue. Good news is we have at least 3 spots left. Both commitments this weekend were from guys who have no other offers and we're not announced, so it seems likely they've been told they'll blueshirt if we can get others. So still probably 5 spots left, as well as any other guys who may have been told that blueshirting is an option.

Nice! Looks like those offers are all old so we may be able to get a good prospect and not need to beat anyone else out for him -

Exactly. If films were evaluated in terms on good play vs. bad play then it would make things a lot tougher to evaluate. It certainly is more comforting to see a kid have success against top competition, but ultimately you're looking for the attributes and how they translate to the next level. As you pointed out. -

6'3" 252 lb defensive tackle from Lamar high school in Houston. We have offered. Per his twitter, also holds 7 FCS offers (Prairie View A&M, Tennessee State, Southern university, SFA, Central Arkansas, Texas Southern, and Northern Colorado), a DII offer, and an offer from Kilgore JUCO. 247 lists him as an SFA commit but I believe that is not up to date. highlights: http://www.hudl.com/profile/6527604 http://247sports.com/player/devon-tibbs-80696 http://www.espn.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/209604/devon-tibbs -

The injury happened later in his junior year. He played his entire senior season after making a full recovery. -

Baylor offered half a month before we did. I think there may be some merit to the close to the vest deal, but not the way people may want it to be. Just because schools offer soon after we do doesn't mean they had no clue who the kid was until we offered. The other schools may want to keep their recruiting of the kid quiet as well, then when we offer (our someone else) there is no reason to slow play or keep secret anymore. It forces their hand. That's very common this close to signing day. Not just with the kids we recruit. Kids all over are getting offered in bunches right now. This kid is from Southlake. He wasn't hidden from anyone. -
Discrepancy in Recruiting Rankings
BillySee58 replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
247 does a ranking based on the composite scores of the individual commits. The class rankings aren't composites, the player ratings are. 247 averages every individual commit's ratings among the 4 sites, then ranks the classes accordingly. So 247's class rankings are not composite rankings based off of how all the sites ranks the classes, but how they rank the individuals. So Donovan, Sewell, and Isadore count towards our rivals team rating, but since they are correctly not listed as commits in 247, they play no factor in our class ranking. Isadore was never announced as a signing while Pahinui and Guyton were. Also, I thought Vito had confirmed. Either way, safe to say he is coming in as a walkon, at least this semester. -

Discrepancy in Recruiting Rankings
BillySee58 replied to ChristopherRyanWilkes's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Their credibility is shot, IMO. Rivals still lists Michael Sewell and Josh Donovan as commits, as well as Devlin Isadore who is a PWO. Not sure about scout, but they lost credibility a long time ago for me. It helped when they hired Gabe Brooks, but more so for the coverage. 247's ranking is based on the composite scores, so it factors all major site ratings in. That's a huge part of why they're the most credible when it comes to rating. And they do the best job of covering the G5s IMO. Rivals is far behind in that aspect. -

Correct. Blueshirting just pushes back where the initial counter scholarship is counted. Wait, Pirtle blueshirted? Thought he was just a PWO. If that's true then he's on scholarship. Didn't realize that. -
Why bombard him? If he needs us to tell him to pull the trigger on a terrible coach that he didn't even hire, that concerns me about inability to fire coaches he hires. I want him to show his competency regardless of fan recommendation.

You can always push back spots to next year. The way to break the cycle IMO is to sign enough high school recruits, get them to stay for their whole careers, and get the total scholarship count up to 85 by only needing to sign, say 22 kids. Then those kids plus your blueshirts are at or under 25 for the class but the team total is up at or near 85. High school kids is the catch though. Take, for example, Eric Jenkins. He blueshirted (I believe although not offficialy disclosed), and has been well worth the scholarship. But, he counts towards the 2017 class, and we only get one year left of him compared to 4 years from the high school guys. We're using a spot on Jenkins (and any other jucos who came in as juniors) in 2017, and then having to replace him the next class in 2018. Similar to a grad transfer. Sign Morris in 2016, replace his spot in 2017. Keeping those to a minimum is key to breaking the blueshirt-out-of-necessity cycle and getting us to 85 scholarships. Or at least ending it ASAP.

6'0" 160 lb cornerback from Ardmore high school in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Also played running back for his high school. He has committed to us. Per his twitter, we are his only division 1 offer. highlights: http://www.hudl.com/profile/4363696/jordan-roberts https://n.rivals.com/content/prospects/59655

There's no doubt in my mind that this was RV's mindset. He showed he clearly preferred hoping Benford would turn things around over owning up to his own mistake. I mean, how possibly could the "idiot board" be right and he be wrong? Well he was right about one thing. He won't have to stand up in front of people and say Tony Benford was the worst coach he ever hired. But is he wrong that "Tony Benford is a hell of a basketball coach." Both said around the 39:30 mark in this podcast. http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/podcast/gmgpod119.mp3 In the same podcast he blamed Tony Mitchell and others for Benford's first year, and also said we would have baseball by spring 2016. At least he was right that he never would have to fire Benford!

Yeah, I'd put their exposure on par with a top program from Austin (TX) area. Maybe not premier DFW or Houston caliber exposure, but very good exposure nonetheless. -
He means in recruiting, which they have.

Oh, come on. You guys know deep down that In-N-Out is better than Whataburger. You just don't want to admit California is better than Texas at anything. Have some faith in your state being better overall!

You are as capable as anyone else at passing him along to the staff. You can email them at untfootball@unt.edu, or tweet at the coaches.

That's very rarely true, and far from automatic. They just don't ever get reevaluated or given a chance to improve their rating. The only time a kid gets downgraded after they commit to us is if they have a high rating to where they're closer to a 4-star than a 2-star, and they "only" commit to us and don't pick up P5 offers. Then the recruiting services chicken out on their high rating of a kid. This happened with Cameron Johnson and Willy Ivery in recent years, but that's really about it. I believe La Tech has a lower recruiting budget than us. We just haven't had coaches who excel in recruiting, compared to their peers. Littrell and this staff don't appear awful, but they haven't shown me anything to suggest they're the type of staff to compete for the top classes in CUSA. And that is very attainable here. Frank Wilson would be pulling a top two class in CUSA, by the composite rankings, if he was here. I have no doubt about that.
