It was a tongue-in-cheek use of the word, and beyond the point. Harry, Tasty, and Wilkes spelled it out better than I could, so I'll just leave it at what they said. -

Can you respect the sanctity of anonymous sources? Not sure how to word that without sounding like a douche, but when the man comes on here and presents us with exclusive information, the code is to take it however we want without outing his source and potentially cutting off future inside information.- 195 replies

You were scared he didn't want people seeing his own tweet? JayD was keeping the commitment quiet. Not the offer. Again, don't feel hesitant to post public information.

You don't need to hesitate to post an offer you see. If there is a player reporting a UNT offer, and it appears legitimate, the purpose of this board is to post it. See who we're recruiting -

The only other offer he has received since he decommitted is Texas Southern. Maybe that was his only other active offer and was going to commit there until he got an offer from an FBS school (us). Unless there is some other mystery offer. -
6'3" 175 lb receiver from Riverdale high school in Riverdale, Georgia. Currently committed to Grambling State. Also was offered at one point by Tulane (February) and Ohio (June). Additionally has been offered by a few other FCS schools. highlights: https://www.hudl.com/profile/2828592 http://247sports.com/Player/Gregory-White-81322

This close to signing day, let's keep pertinent threads on topic. -
I didn't see anywhere in your post where it said that was an average across the entire d-line. I read it as a typical d-line recruit, to which I was asking if this was more of a typical defensive end recruit, or what the deal was for the guideline.

Even seem small for a 3-tech. Especially the non-P5 prospects.

Are these defensive end guidelines? Don't look like defensive tackle guidelines.

Also, had the Texas Tech hat on the table, even though the reports are that they were no longer recruiting. Looks good on us though! -

Commits to UNT! -
No I didn't. I was responding to a post that Mccarney should not have coached after his stroke and that the stroke cast a dark cloud and affected his performance. I pointed out that his 2012 class was his worst in terms of offer list and ended up being his worst on the field, and it happened before the stroke. This class is stacking up a lot like the 2011 class. Also not a great one, though.
-
I don't buy that for a second. Mccarney's best season on the field (2013 bowl season) happened a year and a half after his stroke. Also, his best recruiting classes in terms of getting recruits who other schools actually wanted came after the stroke as well, in 2014 and 2015. His worst class was before the stroke, in 2012. 12 of the 22 kids he signed had zero other FBS offers, and another 5 had just one other FBS offer. We weren't outrecruiting anyone that year, and the stroke wasn't a factor during the recruiting as it hadn't happened yet. And that class ended up being the senior class for the 1-11 team. The coaches who are giving us fits right now are every single coach who wants a kid we do, it seems. We haven't won a legitimate head-to-head recruiting battle since dead period ended.

Robertson was brought in by Dickey and Lemon was Mccarney, as Tasty mentioned

This isn't an exaggeration. None of our recruits ever held an offer from UTSA.

'17 K/P Austin McGehee (Fullerton JC) [Verbal:NT}
BillySee58 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
If he enrolled full-time when he was at Arkansas State fall 2014 then he would only have 2 to play 2. Even if he didn't play in 2014 and 2015, he only gets to count one as a redshirt season if he enrolled in 12 hours fall 2014, starting his eligibility counter. -

Count me as confused. This article says he arrived at Purdue in fall 2014, then left before the semester started and was at Arkansas State for the fall semester where the coaches tried to get him eligible. That sounds to me like if they were trying to get him eligible that fall then they enrolled him full-time, starting his eligibility counter. http://www.scout.com/college/arkansas/story/1500429-mcgehee-s-dream-finally-comes-true Then at Arkansas for 2015 and Fullerton for 2016. Fullerton listed him as a freshman, but JUCOs can be unreliable, as we saw one list Justin Manu as a sophomore but when we signed him he was actually out of eligibility. Maybe he didn't enroll in 12 hours during the fall 2014 when he was at Arkansas State? -
How is that unfair? 1. This sample size is 8 consecutively hired coaches spanning 24 seasons. 2. Jones was hired almost 16 years ago and has been gone for half a decade. I'm trying to emphasize the state of our athletics and where the current metaphorical bar is going in to Wren's first big hire.

A milestone in losing was reached last night. As some of you may remember, I used to track the combined record of all the coaches in the three revenue sports at UNT who RV hired and started their careers in the past decade. I took a look recently giving more losing seasons. Last night that collection of coaches passed 350 losses and fell to 170 games under .500. This thread is not created to bash RV, but is pertinent given that he was the AD for all of our current hirings, and men's basketball will likely be Wren's first big coach hiring. Hard to really tie RV to Littrell given that Smatresk let RV go ASAP, as soon as the school year ended, so it's obvious that the decision was only marginally going to be influenced by an AD on his way out, but still. Anyways, here are the records of the coaches in the big three sports who RV hired and started their tenure in the past decade: WBB: - 25-67 Stephens (2008-2011) - 15-16 Aston (2011-2012) - 28-61 Peterson (2012-2015) - 11-19 Jalie Mitchell (2015-2016) - 6-14 Jalie Mitchell (2016-2017) 85-177 total MBB: - 12-20 Benford (2012-2013) - 16-16 Benford (2013-2014) - 14-17 Benford (2014-2015) - 12-20 Benford (2015-2016) - 6-15 Benford (2016-2017) 60-88 total Football: - 6-37 Dodge (2007-2010) - 22-32 Mccarney (2011-2015) - 3-9 Canales (2010, 2015)* - 5-8 Littrell (2016) 33-77 total *36-86 total including Canales Total: 178-342 *181-351 including Canales 170 games under .500 Barring a miraculous winning streak by either basketball team, we're looking at 1 winning season out of 24 seasons between these coaches. If you're still reading, again, this is not to bash on RV but to emphasize the change in culture we still need. That 1 winning season resulted in a contract extension where the coach we extended never won another road game and we had to pay over $2 mill in buyout money. And Benford is 0-9 in conference and well on the way to another 20 loss season, when he should've been gone before no later than after the 2014-2015 season. Jalie Mitchell and Seth Littrell still have good chances to be plenty successful here, but the standard needs to be raised regardless. We need Baker to know when to cut our losses with coaches, only extend coaches once they have earned it and/or it's dictated by the market, and not be so awful at hiring. For things to have gotten to this point is beyond ridiculous. Raising our standards is not too much to ask for and should be something Baker starts establishing now.

That's awesome. Man, he practically did that on the court against D1 athletes his first season. He covered so much ground so quickly, both horizontally and vertically. Good times. -
