  1. Yes they do. The players who show as “5th” or “6th” are the ones truly in their last year of eligibility.
  2. You’re right, they usually do show it as an exhibition but to your point, last minute schedule and doesn’t count towards their record. I’m sure they aren’t too concerned in the AD about getting it updated.
  3. It’s an official game for us but not for them. Allows them to not have to put the loss on their record. Southern Nazarene was the same.
  4. Takes more than that. Also, they were 28th in last week’s AP poll. Just appears to be where they are regarded, with or without their own vote.
  5. Yeah, DJ Draper was the color commentator with Hank Dickenson doing play by play on the ESPN+ broadcast.
  6. Yeah we look pretty close to where one would hope we would look like early in the season, with new pieces working their way in. Jones, Eady, and Huntsberry were 1-15 from 3 today and those are the catch and shoot threes that we should hit with regularity. I think those guys will start to hit, based on their track record, and that will make us tough. In addition to Ousmane hopefully getting back on track. Again, something I expect given what we’ve seen him do.
  7. *Finney-Smith. And it was Josh Green who was there. Baker for Fresno State was Green’s former teammate at Arizona.
  8. Let’s not over exaggerate. They aren’t a great team but they aren’t very bad. A very bad team is like a bottom half SWAC or Southland team. They were a middle of the pack Mountain West team, which is a better conference than CUSA. I doubt last year’s team beats them by more than that. That’s about how much most of our CUSA home wins were by, save for the very bottom of the conference teams.
  9. I would say no but I would at least forgive him for the sins of his past
  10. One thing I have noticed about Garrett Riley is that he kind of looks like the USC Head Coach Lincoln Riley
  11. Yeah he has generally thrown from a more consistent base this season. He definitely still misses easy passes but I don’t think any QB coach is going to turn Aune into a QB who doesn’t. The improvement in production and effectiveness is evident. If it were a traditional QB coach then I think he would get more credit as a QB position coach improving the play at his position than Bloesch is currently getting. There wouldn’t be so much nitpicking about how every other variable is the reason why and the actual position coach element is not a real reason why. That’s the basis of my original post here. This is in reference to me talking about how Mike Jackson only brings up completion percentage and interceptions. I’m not saying completion % should be ignored, just that it’s arguing in bad faith to ONLY bring that one up repeatedly. I’m bringing up all the stats, but usually focus on passer rating/QBR since those stats that gauge body of work in totality are usually the most accurate. I haven’t ignored completion %. I’ve admitted it isn’t good but it’s still 6% up from last year, which is a pretty impressive jump. Sure the starting point was low, but bringing a QB up 10% in completion percentage is borderline unrealistic. See this is the part I feel like you’re not willing to budge on that I feel you should (just my opinion). There are many analysts out there on ESPN or other platforms that break down film, including QB play. Quarterback is not some secret society that only those inside can ever learn how to understand it. It’s a position like any other. It’s the most important position but Bloesch has been coaching football for 14 seasons now, and had responsibilities outside of just O-Line for many of those dating back 12 seasons ago when he was a High School OC. He knows what good QB mechanics look like, he knows what bad QB mechanics look like, and he knows what QBs need to do in order to play effectively within the offense. It’s simplistic to think a Broyles award nominee OC isn’t capable of coaching up the most important position in his offense simply because that isn’t the position he played.
  12. But this just sounds like you aren’t willing to move off your stance from the offseason that Bloesch had nothing to add as a teacher of QBs since he didn’t play the position. Aune’s footwork has looked much better this year and even the picks have mostly been losing track of a defender, not really due to poor mechanics. Look across the NFL and you’ll see a bunch of position coaches who did not play the position they are coaching. Some of the coaches who get credit for being among the best QB developers did not play QB. Andy Reid, Mike McCarthy, Brian Daboll, etc. These guys know what good form and technique looks like, but being able to effectively teach doesn’t require them ripping the ball 60 yards downfield.
  13. You refuse to acknowledge any stat besides completion percentage which is the exact mindset that this post is regarding. People aren’t giving Bloesch credit as a QB coach bc they are so dug in on the stance that we should have hired a “real” QB coach. In the same way, you refuse to analyze Aune’s complete body of work and won’t move off of the completion percentage. A completion percentage that, to Bloesch’s credit and the original point of the post, is much improved. Aune is still 6th in the nation in TD passes, 20th in passer rating, and 10th in yards per attempt. His body of work this season is solid. You want to ignore everything except his completion percentage, that’s fine. But you’re mischaracterizing the point of the post which is that Aune’s numbers have taken a huge jump and his position coach deserves some credit for it. That was always the point of the post. It was never that Aune is some All-American QB.
  14. I could be wrong, but I do think there’s a disconnect between what fans think is needed for him to keep his job vs. where Wren is actually setting the bar. I think Baker is looking for any excuse to keep him, not the other way around.
  15. In addition to the scoring burden lifting off of him, I also think he’ll benefit from moving to a secondary ball handler role next to Perry. He’ll still fill that role in spurts but I think he’ll look better with not needing to be the only creator on the court.
  16. I hope some of Blair, Shorter, Adeyi, Isaiah Johnson will be good to go, but I’m sort of expecting all of them to be held out Saturday. Winning this one without 3 of your 5 opening game OL starters, 3 of your 4 rotational backs, and your receiver who has 8 TDs would be very impressive.
  17. Alex Cotton of Hebron expected to sign. We’ll see if any other surprise signees come in the next week.
  18. Yeah I agree this particular gripe is way overblown. A few extra mop-up duty passes isn’t going to make a first-year starter look like a second-year starter, even if he went in and ran the full-throttle offense instead of a clock-eating one.
  19. *guitar strums*
  20. I agree with this as well. I said the same thing around the discussion of if Thompson should get in. This criteria was clearly not deemed necessary then, but I also wish that was the standard. Glad for Thompson that he got in, and I get sometimes QB can be a hard position to get all-conference if there are two really good ones, but it seems a little lacking for a player to make the Hall of Fame while not even being one of the best in the conference at their position.
  21. Really?! Come on, man. It’s Tyler! Yeah, disappointing from Eady and Martinez, considering those are 4-year D1 players. Still, it’ll get better for them.
  22. Lot of disappointing events tonight but I really did see why Mccasland compares Huntsberry’s game to Hamlet’s. Some of these fringe guys better do more to stake a claim to playing time while they have the chances with Perry and Jones out. I thought Moore earned some more look at playing time.
