  1. The main returnees as things stand are sophomore guards Ryan Woolridge and AJ Lawson (may be more of a small forward now). They combined for, I believe, 3 straight CUSA freshman of the week awards. We also get Power forward Shane Temara back, who started once Combs was out for the year. The other two starters at the end of the year were seniors. Then we return one role player in Small Forward Junior Allante Holston, RS Sophomore Power Forward/Center Khalil Fuller, who redshirted last year, and Senior guard Greg White-Pittman. I wouldn't be shocked to see White-Pittman or Fuller gone as well. So yeah. At most 6 returning scholarship players. Happy Tax Day.
  2. Same. That's why I recommend putting the high school in the title the way they appear in a newspaper or on a score ticker (i.e. Southlake Carroll, Coppell, Irving Nimitz, etc). And no need to put hs since it's assumed the recruit is a high school athlete unless specified by putting JUCO or grad transfer in front of their name.
  3. Cooley, you're a good poster and bring good info to this board. I agree that Brice was not utilized properly, and I was hoping he could claim the starting center spot and have his potential maximized under McCasland. That being said, your post in this thread, which you said would be fun to revisit, indicates you thought he'd be an impact guy well before his junior year. Either way, it is a shame for him to leave before never maximizing his potential
  4. Two is a lot? Also, by my count this means someone in addition to Combs is gone. 6 signees (Smart, Arikawe, Tikhonenko, Simmons, Gibson, and Miller) plus 8 players from last year's team with eligibility left (Temara, White-Pittman, Holston, Fuller, Brice, Brown, Lawson, and Woolridge) would put us at 14 scholarships which is one more than we are allowed. Looks like someone else is gone.
  5. Republic credits will do fine
  6. Not sure if he's a recruit or just coming to watch his high school teammate (Brandon Garner) play, but former top-50 national recruit Ed Paris of LSU posted this. He has one year of eligibility left and a redshirt left. Has played sparingly at LSU.
  7. Respectfully, sir, this logic is flawed.
  8. I've said it before, but from all the recruiting that I have followed, the coaches who are good at recruiting start pulling in impressive recruits before they start winning. Chad Morris, Frank Wilson, Willie Taggart, PJ Fleck, Butch Jones, etc. all started pulling big-time (by their schools' standards) recruits before they ever coached games at their schools, and before they ever had winning seasons. All taking over for fired coaches (not inheriting winning programs). Personally, I think I've seen enough of Littrell to come to the conclusion that I don't expect him to turn any heads or make significant splashes in recruiting here. Big turnaround, bowl season and he closes our recruiting class with nothing but players with no other active FBS offers down the stretch. And before that he didn't capitalize on the newness of taking being freshly hired the way the guys mentioned above did. Guys who commit in March and April are not the commits who should really raise any red flags when it comes to offer lists (or lack thereof). I do think it is a good sign to see the staff able to get kids to buy what their selling so early on. But there's still no evidence that Littrell and his staff are capable of winning recruiting battles of significance with any regularity.
  9. 5'8" 192 lb running back from Magnolia high school in Magnolia, Texas. It appears we offered two days ago, and are currently his only offer. He has committed. Rushed for 1,064 yards and 10 touchdowns. I'm thinking he may missed time/carries due to injury, as he had almost twice as many carries as a sophomore, rushing for over 1,400 yards. 10. How is that a like comparison? Four teams make the CFP vs 68 teams making the NCAA tournament. A point that Tasty made that seemed to get buried by everyone get caught up on the general statement that we overpaid is that we would be paying to play. His point was that while winning 20 games is nice, we're not breaking even if we lose in the conference tourney at the salary that we are paying Mccasland and our staff. I'd have to look at the numbers to see how true that is, but if Tasty said it then I'm sure it was a well-informed statement. As of now, I'm happy with the Mccasland hire and am not concerned with the cost since it's not my money. But as Tasty said, it becomes an issue if the cost becomes too high to be bought out in the event of things not working out.
  11. Dang search committee!! All their fault
  12. Reminder that Tom Westerberg left Allen, which won 3 state title from 2012-2015, to go to Barbers Hill which hadn't made the playoffs since 2012.
  13. I'd have to imagine in that scenario you pencil in Combs at the 4, Woolridge at point, and Lawson either at the 2 or 3. After that probably between Smart and Brown to start at the 2. At the other post, I think ideally it would be Brice at center if he can realize his potential, with Arikawe probably next up and Temara as the option if those guys still aren't ready. I'm really intrigued by Tikhonenko. Hard to find film on him but if he really is a true stretch 4 at 6'10", and he really did have offers on the table from Iowa State, Vandy, and Baylor then he could really be a star in CUSA.
  14. We had 13 scholarships players this year. 3 of them are for sure gone (Reese, Johnson, and Green), and another is very likely to be gone in Keith Frazier. That would leave 9 returning scholarship players. We had 2 signees in Wainwright and Simmons. Wainwright was released from his LOI so that left us with 1 signee in Simmons. Simmons plus our 9 returning scholarship players is 10, leaving us with 3 spots. Those 3 spots have been filled with Roosevelt Smart, Tikhonenko, and Arikawe. Assuming Frazier is gone, we have now reached the point where we would be full for next year if our 9 players who weren't seniors all were to return. Each additional signee from here would mean someone of those 9 will not be returning.
  15. Frank Martin's point had a great point and it reminded me of this post of the year nominee.
  16. Kelley has another two years of eligibility. I think he's ahead of Isadore, O'Hara, and Pearson if we land him. As for Jefferson, if they offer him they had better hope he makes a big impact. Adding a senior for one year means one more spot to replace next class, and one less scholarship player we'll have on our roster in 2018 and beyond than if we used the spot on a player with multiple years of eligibility left.
  17. Let's hear it, Mean Green fans! Let's hear it, Wren!
  18. By what math? We won 12 games last year and 8 games this year. That's 20 in the last two years. Not 20 in the last three or four. As for what he's supposed to say, how about something along the lines of "it's an opportunity he wanted to pursue and the location was something he couldn't pass up given his background and family situation." To make it sound like his father is the only reason he would ever consider going from Arkansas State to UNT makes him sound ridiculous, when it's public knowledge that we gave him 188% of the salary they would've given him, and we undeniably are in a location that is more advantageous for recruiting.
  19. We almost doubled the salary they could offer, and we are located in DFW vs. Jonesboogie while being in a better conference but A-State is the better job
  20. So that sounds to me like a matter of who has the harder transition. Also not sure what that has to do with who the better hire is/was. I don't see how a coach could be seen as a better hire in part because they are inheriting a roster that fits their scheme less. If the question were "who would you be more impressed to see have success early," then I could see how that would factor in. But I didn't think that was the question.
  21. Your statement confuses me on what your question actually is. How does the sport they coach or the condition of roster they inherit have anything to do with who is the better hire at the time of their hirings?
