  1. I believe @2centsworthis referring to former Ranger Mike Bacsik, who has no real affiliation to North Texas. http://www.espn.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=5141002
  2. I believe he is supposed to get an extra year due to his father's illness causing his original transfer. As far a second getting a hardship waiver and medical redshirt, he would have to prove that his first redshirt was taken because of injury and not just because the coaches wanted to redshirt him.
  3. They were pulling impressive recruits like this when Wilson's record at UTSA was 0-0
  4. Who is "They"? The comment I have been seeing is that we should've been throwing deep more, and before they scored 38 unanswered while loading the box on us.
  5. No Jalen Guyton comment yet? Guyton, Bussey, Lawrence, Darden, and Smith/Chumley all sophomores or younger should be a strong group going forward.
  6. Oh, for sure. I'm really hoping that Littrell adapts and changes what he needs to in order to be successful here. Because even though it seems like a popular idea on here that he won't be here long before he moves up to a P5 job, I think he's going to be here a while based on the resumes of the G5 coaches who actually did get hired by P5s. And yeah, I don't get bogged down by individual calls, just was pointing one out as an example of something I was referencing. Like I said, I'm not giving up on Littrell but I think he's at the point now where shortcomings by our program now and in the future can be attributed more to him than Mccarney.
  7. Mccarney's two worst classes, according to other FBS coaches, were 2012 and 2013. Those guys are almost all gone, save for a few RS Seniors. Mccarney's best two classes, according to other FBS coaches, were 2014 and 2015 and those guys are the upperclassmen on this team. Littrell's classes have not featured as many other FBS offers as Mccarney's last two and have only been declining in offers so far. 2018 is currently at 23% of commits having at least 2 other FBS offers. That would be the lowest for us since the alarmingly unproductive class of 2012. I am far from giving up on Littrell, but any shortcomings we have at this point can almost assuredly be attributed at least in part to his roster management, recruiting, and coaching. Or, I know this seems like a foreign thought on here, we actually found a coach who was a good recruiter and could coach too. Name recognition isn't a necessity. Do you think high school juniors in Texas honestly knew who Frank Wilson was in January 2016? The ones who were not already being recruited by him at LSU. Littrell has never been seen as a recruiter. You can look on 247 and see the commits he was the lead recruiter on prior to getting this job. It is early on in his tenure, but one of the most unsettling things to me about Littrell is his attempts at being the smartest guy in the room. With recruiting guys who he thinks fit his system and no one else wants, but will make him look smarter if he hits on those recruits. And also on-field coaching. Like running that swing pass out of his own end zone tonight.
  8. In the seasons where we were coached by RV's football hires we are 37-86 (including Littrell). 49 games under .500 at a 30.1% winning percentage. According to Brett we are 499-497-33 overall, which means we are 462-411-33 in seasons where our football coach was not hired by RV. 51 games over .500 for a 52.9% winning percentage, vs 49 games under and a 30.1% winning percentage. Which makes one of the last things RV said on the Barbershop podcast even more ridiculous, when he said that coaches he interviewed were saying things along the lines of "Coach, why are they mad at you? North Texas has been getting its butt kicked for years."
  9. What position are we recruiting him at?
  10. I'm still confused about Riley Mayfield and Colton McDonald. I was told by two separate posters that they are juniors and were listed as such during the starting lineup intros, but these say they are seniors, as well as the roster and their own introductions of themselves in the starting lineup on the radio. I'm confused. Also, whatever happened to Jameel Moore? He reportedly had a strong fall camp as a freshman last year, got torched by Courtland Sutton in game 1 last year, and really has been a non factor since.
  11. "*blustering wind* Here we are with starting quarterback Derek Thompson"
  12. Really? On the radio Mayfield and McDonald both introduced themselves as seniors
  13. Question for you or anyone else: Has there been any update on Riley Mayfield's request for a 6th year? When we were informed of his grad transfer I seem to remember reports that he may be eligible for an additional year. But he was introduced as a senior and listed as a senior as well. They may need to wait until the year is over, but I wasn't sure if the waiver request had actually been made and/or processed yet. Did Greg White play yesterday? Traditionally the players who don't play in game 1 get redshirted. Especially given the type of game and with Bussey being out. Unless I missed it. It would be surprising to see him redshirted given the fall camp he reportedly had.
  14. http://scout.com/junior-college-football/Article/JUCO-DL-Adds-Syracuse-Offer-75008439 Per this article, he had two to play two heading into the 2016 season. Eligibility counter started in 2013. This is his last year of eligibility. He's not going to play here
  15. Hope Jub is driving or Miller will head right on through up to Norman Joking aside, good coverage considering they carry SMU games.
  16. Rice is my sleeper team this year. They are solid on the lines, especially the defensive line, and have a solid stable of running backs.
  17. Yup. Vito words it like Sam Rice started snapping after practice and then relegated Barr to the bench once he got the hang of snapping. Rice had been getting reps at center all fall camp and I think back in spring as well. The way I remember it, Barr was the starter and Rice was the starting guard/backup center, then moved over once Barr was injured.
  18. I get that, but I don't think his risk of injury becomes significantly higher by playing a full season of safety plus returning 40 or so kicks than it would be just from playing a full season of safety. Lance Dunbar hasn't been able to stay healthy at any position in the NFL, and we both know that. If he is our best guy for the job then I hope he's our guy back there. I just don't see injuries at the kick returner position frequently enough, especially in college and at the CUSA level, for it to scare me about having our best player back there anymore than having him at safety a full season scares me in terms of injury.
  19. When was the last time one of our return men was injured returning kicks (or punts)? I think it's a relatively low injury-risk position, across the board. If he's our best returner then I want him returning kicks.
  20. That reminds me, anybody remember this guy? https://mobile.twitter.com/EddieUNTtickets
  21. UTSA is not getting picked over SMU just because they are a conference foe. It's close enough where that helps, just helps, push UTSA over the edge among a few other factors. Iowa vs a conference opponent in this question is such a huge gap in favor of Iowa that getting a conference win doesn't push it over the edge in that case. And the fact that we're losing more recruits to SMU than UTSA illustrates that it *should* be a much more winnable matchup for us in recruiting. We are on a more level playing field with UTSA, so a win against them could help swing the pendulum in our favor with recruits. I don't think right now a win against SMU is swinging the pendulum in our favor in recruiting. And yeah, of course we need sustained winning and not just individual wins against specific opponents, but isolating these wins ceteris paribus I think UTSA does more for us where it matters. Within our conference and in recruiting, because basically no one cares about us outside of that realm unless we're beating a P5 or going undefeated/close to it.
  22. Didn't seem to in 2014
  23. Exactly. Plus, UTSA counts as a win overall and a conference win. Helps our standing in our division, conference, and with recruits against the school we maybe go head to head with the most. We beat SMU and lost to UTSA all in a 5-game stretch at the end of 2013 and beginning of 2014. The win against SMU did nothing for us going forward, both in recruiting or that season. The loss to UTSA prevented us from going to a conference championship game. That should illustrate the impact that these games really can hold for us.
  24. Maybe it's because people are so use to 4-3 defenses here, but there needs to be a much better job delineating between a Jack and a second level linebacker in this scheme when discussing linebackers on this board. It's about as different as a corner and safety, if not more different. Yet still a lot of people on here have been referring to all linebackers as if they're all second-level guys.
