  1. Exactly. And this has been the experience in DFW for the last two coaching staffs to the point where their reputation from many local coaches is soured by the end of their tenure. May very well happen to the next coach until we really get our perception to change.
  2. We do. Knowing the names of the kids isn’t the issue. Going into the schools and being steered away from the kids we really want and towards the kids we don’t is the issue.
  3. It updates daily. We were 68 yesterday. But yes, CUSA is strong again in men’s basketball. Definitely has not been the problem of this conference since we joined.
  4. In my scenario I want to emphasize that the main point is there are two sides to these stories, and when there is a large disconnect that’s where we start to divert our attention elsewhere. I’m sure many HS coaches feel like we are being cocky for not offering their FCS level talent, and they think we’re being too good because their expectations of what caliber players UNT should be recruiting doesn’t align with the caliber players that UNT coaches want from that school. When there is that disconnect, it honestly makes sense for us to not be showing up in those schools as much as others. On the flip side, if Saban comes into town, every coach in the state is rolling out the red carpet for him and they’re going to try and sell their top players to him, unlike they would with a UNT Coach. I’ve heard these conversations before of HS coaches saying “oh, yeah Baylor/Colorado/etc. already offered him” as a way of telling the G5 coach he’s not worth your time. Meanwhile, we don’t want those type of kids to be off limits. We can and have been signing those type of recruits every year, even if it’s after those offers dry up.
  5. To many who didn’t go to UNT, all we are is a school that’s a chance for a kid to get ask FBS scholarship. For the most part, they want to be the coach that got as many kids signed to P5 schools as possible. They know it looks better to say they got a kid signed by TCU or Texas Tech than it does to say they got one signed to North Texas. And many coaches are in it for the right reasons. I’m not talking about those guys.
  6. Here’s how this seems to go with UNT coaches recruiting DFW, especially Denton County: New UNT Coach: “Alright, time to build relationships with these local coaches at these great programs and get top recruits!” DFW HS Coach: “Hey coach! I want to make sure every player of mine worthwhile goes to a P5 even if it’s their only P5 offer and they’re going to ride the bench there. But hey, will you please offer my FCS/D2 level players?” New UNT Coach: “Ummm we will consider it.” DFW HS Coach: “Man, I don’t really like that UNT Coach.” Mccarney ended up having more success in East Texas and Littrell really pulled some impressive Houston area recruits. Hopefully the new coach can be the one to make it a cool destination for local recruits, but it doesn’t come easily as overrecruited as this area is.
  7. The NET ranking debut for the 2022-2023 season came out today. We are ranked 68, 3rd in CUSA. FAU at a very impressive 23 and UAB in at 54. We have some chances for resume boosters coming up in Grand Canyon (104) and UMass (75) both on neutral courts technically. https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/basketball-men/d1/ncaa-mens-basketball-net-rankings
  8. Littrell should’ve been fired when Marshall embarrassed us at home and dropped us to 1-5 last season. Or the next week when Liberty dropped us to 1-6. I don’t fault anyone for not wanting to watch a Seth Littrell product since then. ESPECIALLY after the bowl performance when he really had a chance to win everyone’s attention back. I’ll be there +3, but I am not going to be actively recruiting anyone towards UNT fandom until Littrell is gone. The biggest turn off to casual fans is when they do go and the product sucks. They don’t come back. And that’s what has happened, both with the last bowl game and the SMU home opener.
  9. I am currently reading more into this than maybe I should
  10. 2nd half today might have been our best half of basketball all season. Excited to see how this team looks against the upcoming opponents. Looked like a glimpse of what this team can do when they play more cohesively and assertively.
  11. Phil Bennett needs to be gone after this season. 121st defense in the country in yards, 102nd in points and those are only on track to get worse after tonight.
  12. Opening at -8
  13. San Jose State beat Oakland 80-67. They move on to the 5th place game tomorrow against Ball State.
  14. We can still lock you down but more weapons. And the fellas coaching em up ain’t bad.
  15. Line is us -7.
  16. No I’m saying Fine is like the smarter student in the analogy.
  17. Fine. I don’t get the fixation on this. Someone can get a better grade on a test than someone who is smarter than them. That doesn’t mean there’s an asterisk next to the score or anything.
  18. Aune could throw it 180 times today and he’d still have less pass attempts than Fine did in the season he set the single-season TD pass record. Even if he was throwing more today to get the record, Aune would still have gotten there on less passes. Wet field and defense loading up to stop the run is a more likely explanation for why more passing makes sense.
  19. LBSU led by leading scorer Joel Murray, younger brother of JJ Murray.
  20. Showing as 8.5 point favorites right now
  21. One thing I’ll say about that is that schools treated the COVID year differently with how they list their eligibility on their rosters. After the 2020 season, we listed our players with the exact same grade classification in 2021 that they had in 2020. Most schools, including UTSA, did choose to progress their players’ grade classifications forward a year like what normally would have happened. So UTSA does have a lot of players listed as seniors who are eligible for another season due to the 2020 COVID eligibility freeze, including Frank Harris and Zakhari Franklin. They are listed as seniors but have the same eligibility as guys like Deshawn Gaddie and Jyaire Shorter, who we list as juniors.
  22. I suggest listening to Mccasland talk about the scheduling in this podcast: In college basketball, it’s all about record and Quad 1 and Quad 2 wins (to a lesser degree). And with Quad 3 and 4 record, the committee doesn’t care about those but they do care how many Quad 3 or 4 losses a team has. That’s what gets evaluated when it’s time to pick at-large NCAA tournament teams. In order for a home game to count as a Quad 1 win, the opponent has to be a Top 30 NET team. Mccasland explains how teams don’t want to play us, even at their place, because the risk of losing to us isn’t worth the reward of a possibly Quad 3 win, or at best a Quad 2 win. Losing to us at home is either going to worsen the Quad 2 record or show up as a Quad 3 loss, neither are going to help an at-large bid.
  23. We have 8 scholarship seniors, 1 of which is our punter and another 1 of which is our kicker which are positions that Littrell has never offered scholarships to High School players from. You don’t sign 20 high school kids when you’re only graduating 6 non-specialists. It’s going to be a small class of traditional recruits, with players transferring out likely to get replaced with players transferring in.
  24. Huge pickup for a variety of reasons! Most of which is this kid can play! Very physical highlights for a CB.
  25. Yes. I remember Frankie Ferrari, San Francisco’s point guard when we played them in the CBI Finals, did this. He started his career at San Francisco, went to a JUCO, then went back to San Francisco.
