So offense is back on our point-a-minute pace, eh?
-
Yup. I sent them a message on support but nothing. Not looking good on that front
-
-
Agreed. Good news is, that stretch of doom is followed by FAU, FIU, UTEP, and UTSA.
-
If that happened, we'd be in a great spot. I don't know if he has the scoring ability, on a CUSA level, that Tucker had, on the BIGXII level, but if he could be that bulldog while Tikhonenko is the skilled, scoring stretch four then that would give us a solid pairing.
-
I hope so. He was starting in conference play for Arkansas State at the 4 as a true freshman, so he should be able to add something. He's a 6'4" post who isn't a shooter, so I hope guys like Gibson, Tikhonenko, and Duffy can gives us what we're hoping from a scoring standpoint so guys like Jahmiah Simmons can just play their game.
-
I'm aware. I don't think it's that big a deal in CUSA play. Most teams run three guards anyways, with the three usually being 6'3"-6'5". What is a big deal is our shooting in CUSA play. We need another perimeter scoring option who defenses will respect. Duffy is our only guy who could be that.

I really like Duffy. I think the biggest goal with Duffy is getting him healthy by year-end so he can spend this offseason training and not rehabbing like last offseason. He isn't as explosive as he was in his JUCO highlights. He was catching alley-oops. But we need his shooting ability. Honestly, if Duffy were healthy I would try starting him right now, and either have Lawson come off the bench or put him at 4 like we had at the beginning of the year and have Temara come off the bench. Offensive needs a kick starter, and Woolridge would be best served being surrounded by good shooters, which Smart is really the only one right now. Temara is 11-31 (35%) from the field and 4-19 (21%) over the last six games. I think 3 of our 4 best shooters have been hurt this year. Duffy, Gibson, and Tikhonenko should really help us stretch the floor next year when they're all healthy, along with Smart. Having that many of your shooters out, along with Lawson and Temara struggling, has really hurt this offense. Good to see Lawson coming on a bit now.
-
Don't forget about Gibson. He looked like he was going to be a good CUSA guard. Good shooter, ball handler, quick, and good on-ball defender. He would probably be the third-leading scorer right now
-
Honestly, I think they're just bad free throw shooters. They've gone down, but not dramatically. Free throw shooting is a stat where numbers don't typically go up by huge amounts over the course of a college career. Scouts also see it as more indicative of how good a shooter the player is than three-point shooting percentage, which can fluctuate more, especially with guys who don't take a lot.

19' Ath Offer: Ty DeArman; Arlington Bowie - 3 star

I have not. Helps that he has all the exposure a recruit could ask for, but that's only half the battle. Good, versatile player. Would love to get him -

Coach's son -
They have done very well at bringing in quality at the receiver position

Big Time Commit for North Texas

Good to see. I think receiver has been the best area of recruiting for this staff to this point. Congrats, Jyaire! -
18' TE Brayden Willis, Arlington Martin - 3 star

Also visited Utah State recently. Looks like we aren't in the running here -
If Duffy is healthy, I want him to get some run with the starting unit. Looked solid against ODU. Having him, Smart, and Temara next to Woolridge gives you much more options offensively, particularly shooting, than having Lawson and Holston on the court with Woolridge

This team has been incredibly frustrating to watch in conference play, outside of Smart. 41.7% from the line today, 21.4% from three. Consistently giving shooting efforts that are not division one caliber
-
This team as a whole struggles to finish around the rim. I really wonder if Gibson coming back next year pushes Lawson out of the starting lineup. It's one thing having a point guard who is a bad shooter, but two of your three guards being really bad shooters is troubling. Surrounding Woolridge with good catch and shoot guys like Gibson, Lawson, and Tikhonenko could really have us looking good next year. Ideally I'd like to see Lawson come off the bench next year and be a secondary ball handler and defensive specialist who can get to the basket when asked but doesn't have much of the offense run through him.

He was late. Replay showed that
-
Team is: 33.9% from the field 29.6% from three 37.5% from the free throw line This is division one basketball. You gotta be able to make semi-tough shots and free throws
-
Smart has gotta get hot here. 29% shooting from him isn't gonna cut it if we want to win
-
Stadium broadcast quality is great, but the camera always zooms in on the free throw shooter and you don't get to see if the shot goes in on like 80% of the free throw attempts
-
We cancelled that loss out with the USD win. We win this one and it cancels out the Charlotte loss, imo.
-
Huge game. We pull this one out and we have a legitimate shot at starting conference 7-3, maybe even 8-2. Going to need more players contributing outside of Smart and Draper than last game
