Mercifully, this season ends. Watching this offense and free-throw shooting has been very difficult all year. Caught up with us down the stretch. Really hoping we can fix the offensive product over the offseason. Good news is we only lose Temara if everyone comes back. Bad news is we only lose Temara, if everyone comes back. This team really needs another perimeter scorer and a rim defender. Really would be ideal if someone who is a shooting and scoring threat can take Lawson's spot in the starting lineup. J Simmons, Tikhonenko, and Gibson should really help but I feel like we need a JUCO or grad transfer perimeter scorer and a JUCO or grad transfer rim protector, so we don't have to rely on those guys to turn this team around, as they will still only be underclassmen. Would have to make room for that, especially if Draper is put on scholarship.

Not sure how three-way tie breakers work or how the tie-breaker would work between us and FIU, since we split against each other. Hoping they both lose and we win, then we'd be tied with UAB and hold the head-to-head advantage over them.
-
Go finish the sweep of UTEP and root for WKU and ODU to knock off UAB and FIU
-
This is very refreshing to see. Also, we still have a shot at the 6 seed if we get some help on Saturday and win.

Good first half. One of the biggest areas of improvement that this team needs to have this offseason is inbounding. Especially Woolridge and Holston

That's my concern too. Way too many minus offensive players out there right now. And those guys aren't giving us nearly good enough defensive play to offset their offensive shortcomings. I like to think Gibson and Tikhonenko will give us big boosts, but they'll also be Redshirt Freshmen. This team needs a stud JUCO or grad transfer. I would look into Damiyne Durham if he decides to grad transfer, as he signed at Baylor when Mccasland was there and would give another perimeter scoring option on the wing that we don't have outside of Smart right now. If we could upgrade our post play by as much, then sure. But I'm fine going into next year with Tikhonenko, J Simmons, and Holston at the 4 and Z Simmons and Arikawe at the 5, if our perimeter play is better. Another? We don't have finesse big outside shooters unless you count Temara, who hasn't been much of a shooter, and is gone after this year anyways. It's pretty clear Mccasland wants a stretch 4 more than a traditional 4. Tikhonenko appears to be a legit stretch 4, and I think that can really help this offense out given how bad our offensive production has been at the 4 this year. -

I don't know where you are getting this from. Do you remember what publication(s) you saw that from? Smart and Duffy had better offer lists and were rated higher from what I saw. -
This team looks outmatched
-
Scoreless the last 5:30 of the half. Smart is out, Tikhonenko and Gibson are redshirting, and we took Duffy out when he was giving us a big spark. Plain and simple, just too many guys out there dragging this offense down.
-
The lineup of Woolridge/Draper/Lawson/Holston/Arikawe has been awful on both ends of the court. We're in serious trouble if Smart is done for the day
-
26-24 UNT 3:53 left in the 1st half
-
We have had some bad refs, but this crew might take the cake. Calling a moving screen on almost every screen. Also, not sure where Roosevelt Smart is.
-
Good news is UTEP beat La Tech. That means that if we win out, the only help we need is La Tech beating UTSA (or Rice beating them) and UAB losing one more game (they play @ MTSU on Saturday, then have Marshall and WKU next week). Then we'd have the five seed. Need to get it together and take care of our part first
-
Great win, ladies! 3 straight on the road
-
I didn't see the replay and it could have easily been a charge. Point is, that's a low-IQ play to force a foul call there (you know they're going to call a foul on someone) with under 5 seconds left rather than make that player take a contested outside shot with the shot clock running down. Probably greater than 50% chance they're going to call a foul on us there, and they only need to make one free throw. Make them make a shot they probably only have a 30% chance at making.
-
Lawson and Smart were a combined 5-22 from the floor and 0-3 from the line today. That's tough. I really think this team needs to look at upgrading the three spot offensively with a grad transfer (Damiyne Durham?). When Lawson is bad, he's really bad offensively. Having a true stretch four in Tikhonenko should help too, but this team needs another legit scoring option when Smart is not feeling it.
-
Yup
-
I think it could've gone either way but looked more like a foul on Lawson than offensive to me. Lawson jumped in front of the FIU player in a really bad decision. Make them shoot a deep contested shot instead of risk them going to the free throw line
-
Not sure who I'm more upset with. Lawson for doing that in another late game situation (like La Tech) after being awful all game, or the refs for calling everything a foul on us tonight
-
Arikawe and Duffy both missing from point blank 😞
-
Lawson is really hurting us tonight. 1-6 from the field and 0-2 from the free throw line
-
Great end to the half! Duffy and Temara with the last 10 points. Those two guys are probably the two of the biggest X factors we have because of what they can bring us offensively. If they're scoring, we become a much better team
-
Here's the first part of that sentence "Even if Mccasland's teams are consistently near the top of the conference and winning around 20 games a year, if" Consistently near the top of the conference. Winning around 20 games a year. I'm talking about over the course of his contract/tenure, at his pay scale, he needs to be having conference tourney success and not just regular season success.
