  1. He has the stroke, I'm not worried about him being a good shooter from mid-range, outside, or the free-throw line. I think he'll be solid from each level. Plus his ability to get to the basket and absorb contact would be a huge dynamic he brings, as he will likely be surrounded by some really good shooters and have the opportunity to attack the rim often. He's up there with Jalen Jackson's teammate Kevin Mccullar as my top two wants for 2019. If he came here he'd probably mainly play the 3 but likely play some 4 as well during his time in Denton. I think every player 6'6" and up who ever plays for Mccasland here will spend at least some time at the 4.
  2. PG - Ryan Woolridge SG - Roosevelt Smart SG/SF - Chris Davis PF - Tony Mitchell C - George Odufuwa Bench PG - Josh White SG - Calvin Watson SG/SF - Tristan Thompson PF - Jeremy Combs C - Shawnson Johnson Maybe Jordan Williams instead of Jeremy Combs as a stretch 4 off the bench. Leaving Combs because I think I have enough shooting on the bench with these guys.
  3. I think I am looking at adding two types of players. One wing between 6'3" and 6'6" who is a good shooter, can put the ball on the floor a little, and can guard the opposing teams' 3, who will also typically be around that height. A tier A guy for this role would be the guys we have offered; Wendell Mitchell and Tremell Murphy. If you get one of those guys, they start at the 3 next to Woolridge and Smart, then you have Gibson and Duffy backing them up. If you can't get them, a tier B guy would be in that mold but not quite as good as those two. In that case you'd start Woolridge, Duffy, and Smart and have Gibson and that tier B guy backing them up. Those would be your 5 guards rotating at the 1 through 3 spots. Then one player around 6'6"-6'8" who is a stretch 4 with some size and rebounding ability. Think Colin Voss with more range or Rashawn Fredericks, who decommitted from us in October. Someone who can stretch the floor, rebound, and may not be a great rim protector but could play some 5 if you need. We have Simmons and Arikawe at the 5, which is solid but just two guys is not great depth. Meanwhile at the 4 you have guys like Tikhonenko, Miller, J Simmons, and Holston who fit at the 4 but are not guys you necessarily want playing the 5. This guy could be capable of playing both the 4 and the 5, which we really don't have a guy like that at the moment.
  4. Correction: Jorden Duffy
  5. 11-0 when shooting 70% or better from the foul line is pretty telling. We lost so many one or two possession games this season where we were awful from the foul line, turned the ball over too many times, and were not good enough at hitting jump shots. This tournament has shown how good we can be if we are taking care of those facets of the game.
  6. I don't know about you guys, but this just had the feeling after the first two games like there was no chance today would be anything less than a convincing win.
  7. Smart is now up to 689 points on the season. Smart needs just 40 more points to set the single-season school record for points in a season. With at least two games left he has a really good shot at that. Needs 11 more to pass Jon Manning's 1978-1979 season mark of 699 to move into second in school single-season history. Smart also now has 153 made free throws on the season, which is tied for 8th most in single-season school history. His 126 made threes has him just 6 away from breaking into the top 10 in school history for a career. Woolridge is now up to 205 assists on the season, which means he is just four assists away from setting a new school single-season record. At 272 career assists, next up is Chris Jones who is 6th in school history at 282 career assists. Some significant records that have been held for decades are in jeopardy of being broken. They were achieved in significantly less games, but still.
  8. Many NBA people think Ben Simmons should do the same thing
  9. We have annihilated three teams who have combined to win 68 games this year. Can't be understated.
  10. JSU.edu/giving to donate to their relief efforts
  11. Woolridge now 7th in school history in career assists and is just 5 assists away from breaking the single-season record for assists in a season.
  12. Miller was just shooting with the wrong hand, as an ambidextrous guy. Lawson can't just switch to his left hand. He has never been a good shooter. That's why he, as a 6'5" guard really didn't have a great offer list. He obviously needs to work on it, but if he's going to be effective here I think it will be by taking a lesser offensive role and being surrounded by shooters so he can make teams pay when they try and man up the shooters around him. He can take guys one on one off the bounce.
  13. 1-1. Only other double double he had was against MTSU, which was a loss.
  14. Hate to break it to you, but this is a guard offer. When Allante Holston and Mike Miller start at the 4, they are listed as guards. This dude would play 3 here, maybe some 4. Either way he's a perimeter player and Mccasland would list him as a guard, I'm fairly confident.
  15. Brings me back to the good ole days when I was high on AJ. Hopefully he can still reclaim that and get back on that Josh Howard Wake Forest trajectory
  16. Roosevelt Smart is now up to 669 points on the season. That is third in North Texas Single-Season history. Next up is Jon Manning (1978-1979), at 699. First is Kenneth Lyons (1982-1983) at 728. Smart is looking to join Lyons as the only NT players with 700 point seasons. With 122 three-point field goals made, Smart is 10 away from cracking the top 10 in school history for career three-point field goals made. Smart's 149 made free throws this season is 2 away from putting him in the top 10 in single-season school history. And is 2nd in school single-season history in free-throw percentage. Ryan Woolridge's 196 assists this season is 2nd in school single-season history, to Walter "Weasel" Johnson's 1976-1977 season mark of 208 assists. Woolridge's 263 career assists puts him at 8th in school history. Next up is Furmia Nealy at 269 career assists. Among other things, this tournament has been a great way for these guys to pad their stats. Let me know if there are any other stats you think should be tracked. These guys are just sophomores and already are getting their names in the record book. Plenty of stat tracking to come with these two.
  17. Particularly from the Benford recruits. Mccasland's recruits have decent numbers at the line, relative to their position
  18. I hope so. But even as a freshman he shot about 27% from three and 59% from the line. I'm not convinced his hand injury is the sole reason for his bad shooting. If he comes back I think he would best fit as a 3/4 off the bench with ball handling ability, ability to get to the basket, being a good rebounder and defender but surrounded by shooters like Gibson and Duffy.
  19. Winning the CBI = precursor to NCAA tourney success 👀
  20. I'm shocked to see how well we are playing. I'm not shocked to see us playing better with Duffy and Miller taking most of the minutes away from Lawson, Holston, and Temara. I don't have much in the way of stats to back it up, but those guys really dragged the offense down with their inability to hit outside shots, save for Temara at the beginning of the year. Lawson shot around 40% from the field while taking most of his shots close to the basket. Teams gave him that all year and didn't have to respect their outside shooting. And while those guys are bigger and seemingly better defensive players, our defense has not taken a hit with them in. Less turnovers, more made shots, and more time to get set on defense as a result. This is the future of the Mccasland era imo, once he fully puts together his own roster. Spread the court with shooting, skill, and athleticism even if at the cost of size.
  21. Really nice to see our defense play so well despite filling the court with guards and shooters. Great win!
