Also nice that even if Littrell and/or Harrell were to leave, this is likely a guy we shouldn't have to worry about transferring.

Boom! You called it

Back to back years we get someone from out of Grand Prairie who holds a P5 offer! Get this man a thread

When I disagree with someone on this board, and they disagree with me, it opens the door for a good back and forth as long as facts and logic are used to support each side. And I get healthy conversations on this board born from disagreement. But from you all I seem to get is you acting butt hurt by my posts and calling me an expert in air quotes (which I have never claimed to be), or otherwise talking about my recruiting background. I disagreed with your post, but I don't see why you don't choose to defend your stance and explain your logic. I don't make things personal, and I'm always up for a back and forth that brings up points and facts I hadn't considered. That sounded self righteous as hell, but you get what I mean.

Hm, I always seem to get a downvote notification when I get a response from you. Wonder why that is. I mean, it's promising because Littrell and Harrell have done such a good job with Fine, but there's zero indication that the other guys who have never thrown a division one pass would provide tougher competition than UCLA's QBs. And from the standpoint of a recruit, they aren't committing to UCLA because they're scared off by competition from a bunch of G5 signees who have never thrown a division one pass. I think we'll sign a good QB this class, and with no other QB commits, plus a junior QB who will be gone after they redshirt, the situation actually should be in our favor for a high school QB.

Interesting. Thanks! I don't know what to call this, but I see it a lot on here. People think just because they can name players on our roster, that makes our depth chart better and more daunting to incoming recruits than the depth charts on other rosters. It's pretty prevalent on here, but I'm slightly surprised that it even extends to P5 teams like UCLA.

Fine didn't have any other offers. Didn't take good recruiting skills to get Fine to choose us over walkon offers. It did show tremendous evaluating ability and development.

Where do you think we go at QB from here? Keuhne?

I think the coaches are good with the roster as is it's constructed, so I think the spot is not going to go to a player that plays a specific position. I think it's going to either go to a good grad transfer who comes available late, a regular transfer who comes available late and will have to sit out a year, or a high school player who qualifies late or otherwise comes available late. I think they're going to use the scholarship to be opportunistic and get a guy who comes available late when most other schools are out of spots. And could live with giving it to a guy who has to sit out this year. That's the benefit of having a solid roster that you're not still trying to round into form.

19' OG Offer: Marcus Alexander (Sunnyvale) - 3 star
BillySee58 replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I remember a lot of similar comments when Mccarney was here. I'm not going to give any staff a pat on the back for being early on a guy who ends up with multiple P5 offers. If we see a guy who ends up going P5, I sure hope we are good enough at evaluating to recognize that kid is worthy of an offer from a CUSA school. That being said, it does seem like this staff is good enough at evaluating players who are more borderline. They're also starting to actually land some solid prospects, which is the most encouraging. -
Avery Fortenberry, Aaron's younger brother, was a part of the 2014 class as a grayshirt. He never played a meaningful snap here, though. And yes, Kirby was a starter whose father passed before his senior season. Kirby came in fall 2012 as a walkon freshman.

Jonah Jordan and Brooks Hansen from GoTigers247 are predicting him to Memphis. You can click on the predictions and see who is making the predictions, when they made it, and how accurate they have been with their picks from each recruiting class. And Jordan only hit on 52.63% of his predictions last class, and Hansen was 3/4 last class, so I wouldn't take it as gospel but it looks like they predicted him to Memphis on the same day, so they likely got some good info then that led them to think he's going there. We'll see.

Didn't know you could use the grad transfer rule twice

I don't think that Woolridge would play off the ball, even with a healthy Gibson. Gibson was healthy and starting at the beginning of last year but he played off the ball and Woolridge ran point. Defensively, however, you could see Woolridge guarding an off-the-ball player possibly if Draper, Duffy, or Gibson are in the game next to him. Here is what I have 1 - Ryan Woolridge 2 - Jorden Duffy 3 - Roosevelt Smart 4 - Mark Tikhonenko 5 - Zachary Simmons Bench 1/2 - Umoja Gibson 2/3 - Larry Wise 2/3/4 - Abdul Mohamed 2/3/4 - Michael Miller 4 - Jahmiah Simmons 5 - Tope Arikawe 1/2 - DJ Draper If he's starting, he'll probably be our second leading scorer. If he's at full-strength, he can be a 15 point/game guy, easily. To everyone reading this, can we please stop referring to Mark Tikhonenko as "the Russian" or "the Russian Kid?" His last name is 10 letters, 4 syllables. It's really not that hard. Referring to him as the afore mentioned is just lazy. Hell, call him Tikho for short if you really want to abbreviate. As far as how good can he be, he's the closest thing we have to a prototypical stretch-4. Which is why he had Power conference offers. Miller and J Simmons are probably further along, so they might be more likely to start at the 4 but Tikhonenko has them beat hands down in potential. I think Gibson off the bench would give us a legit 6th man and a legit backup point guard at the same time. We lacked both of those things most of last year. We also now have a bench made up entirely of guys who have some offensive skill, and can shoot free throws. Gone are the guys who brought little to nothing offensively and couldn't shoot free throws (Benford recruits), save for Woolridge. I also think Wise and Mohamed will be helpful as wings. They can allow guys like Smart and Duffy to play the 2 offensively and also not have to guard bigger wings defensively. Basically, they can bring some of what Lawson and Holston brought defensively, while also being able to stretch the floor from 3 and not be liabilities offensively. Mike Miller really brings a lot on both ends now that he is shooting jumpers right-handed, as evidenced by the CBI. Jahmiah Simmons is a player who played, started, and produced for Mccasland as a true freshman at Arkansas State. He's not a great three-point shooter but it looks like he's working on it so should at least have the capability. He knows how to play in the paint on both ends, and can score down low, rebound, and even block shots despite being by just 6'4". Last, Arikawe and Draper both are knowns. Arikawe is a solid backup 5 and Draper is likely an end of the bench guy now but capable of lighting it up from deep and playing adequate defense.

To quote @UNT90, "Scheduling, the worst thing this AD (RV) does." I disagree/disagreed with that, but not because I thought RV was good at scheduling. Fun to see some of the series Wren has signed us up for. And he has been able to get them all 1 for 1 to my knowledge. Hasn't had to agree to a 2 for 1 to get top-notch opponents to agree to come to Denton.

Both are 2019 commits, finishing up their junior year's of high school. Jackson is committed and Iwuakor is undecided

Jahmiah Simmons was already on the roster as a scholarship player last season. We've only added two.
