That was it. The famed “Tony Denton” game.
-
Trying to keep our undefeated record intact against our first division one opponent. Tip-off at 8:30 pm central time. Portland fell 82-64 to Hawaii in their first game of the Rainbow Classic.
-
Yeah, can’t keep him out of the starting lineup as is

I’ll be there

People who like to monitor the conference. Don’t think there’s any worrying going on here.
-
Exactly. It is obviously too early to say they are for sure not going to be a contender in CUSA, but this is a big red flag. Definite red flag on their depth.
-
Reminder that UTSA finished 5th in conference last year and was predicted to finish 5th this year by the coaches.
-
All three games will be called by John Liddle, and only the third game will be streamed (all of Hawaii’s games will be streamed)

Hey guys, Our plan this year is to do a podcast every other week this season. Given how frequent basketball games are played, a lot can and will happen in that time span. My idea to help bridge the gap in between pods is to do periscopes, particularly for the away games. I wanted to gauge your interest in viewing periscopes, and see if it’s something you guys would tune into. It’s just an app similar to Facebook live where you guys can comment and ask questions/have live discussions, and I answer/moderate. Was thinking of doing a combination of pre-game, halftime, and post-game periscopes. So let me know if this is something you guys would be interested in, and follow @ GreenGlobePod on periscope.

I was going to address this on the pod. Nothing wrong with a nickname, and nothing wrong with a nickname alluding to someone’s nationality or country of origin as long as they aren’t stereotyping or being otherwise narrow-minded. I think the vast majority of posts alluding to Mark Tikhonenko have referred to him as “The Russian” not as a legitimate nickname but out of convenience. Most don’t want to take the time to learn a 4-syllable name. To quote MeanGreenTexan “His name is Mark Tikhonenko. He goes by "Tikho" for short, if "Mark" is too hard. I happen to think both are fairly easy to remember.” I don’t think calling him “The Russian” is insensitive. I just think it’s either A. A lazy placeholder for people who don’t want to learn his name or B. As unoriginal a nickname as it gets and we can do better than that, folks. His twitter handle is @Tiki_Jr14 so my clubhouse leader for his nickname is Tiki Torch because he’s gonna light it up from deep. So if there’s one thing that sums up my post, it’s that cheesy, Dad-jokey nicknames are always the way to go and “The Russian” ain’t that. SN: Good sign to see him and Zach pushing each other and battling down low. If Tikhonenko is physical down low and hitting from deep he gives us something that we don’t have anywhere else on the roster. A legit, plus-sized stretch four.

Big Time visitor for Homecoming - D'Andre Plantin

Then this year he was projected to be the starter at Left Guard until Va Tech moved their starting center to left guard and moved another player into the starting center spot. Plantin then played in just a couple games this year and decided to seek a grad transfer. Looks like he has decided to take the semester to focus on graduating and deciding where he is going to play next year. Again, grad transfer so he will be eligible immediately but will count towards the class so we would need to blueshirt one of the current commits. -

Grad transfer, so he is eligible to play next season once he gets his Va Tech degree -
Fine came up just 17 yards shy of breaking Mitch Maher’s record for career passing yards. He now stands at 8,503 career passing yards, with Maher’s record at 8,519. Looks like Fine will get that record on the road in two weeks at ODU. Once Fine breaks the record the stat watch will start becoming about where he can end up on the NCAA all-time leaderboard. It’s conceivable that he could crack the top 10 in NCAA history. Also, for the season Fine is coincidentally just 18 yards away from passing Derek Thompson’s 2013 season for 3rd in single-season passing yards in school history. He’s also 225 from passing Maher’s 1994 season to move into 2nd place behind the record Fine set last year.

We could make room by blueshirting any of the current commits. As long as they have not been on campus for an official visit. -
He’s my pick at the moment

This would be perfect, but have we stopped recruiting Preston Wilson and/or LaDarius Henderson? I’ll settle for any one of these three, but it’d be perfect if we could get this dude and one of Wilson or Henderson. -
Taking a look at the Oline prospects for future

My biggest concern with this team reaching its full potential in Fine’s senior season is that we didn’t recruit enough dogs on the o-line in 2016 and 2017. My biggest concern for the post Fine era is the same question just extended to the 2018 and 2019 classes. -
DRC: UNT knocks off TCU in closed scrimmage
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The exciting thing about the season starting is that we finally can start putting stock in victories. This team has beat every opponent they have faced since they swapped out the Benford guys for the Mccasland guys in the starting lineup, and handily in nearly every case, but we’ve been hesitant to put too much stock in the victories because of the opponent or setting. Including the CBI, at least to a degree. Mccasland and the team are doing all the right things and saying all the right things so far. Can’t wait to see how this plays out. -

Been slacking on this one but Mason Fine is now just 350 yards from breaking Mitch Maher’s record for career passing yards in NT Football history. Long time coming on this one and maybe we see it on Homecoming.

DRC: UNT picked to finish fourth in C-USA
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This team has some legitimate external expectation. Predicted 4th by coaches, 4th by Athlon, 2nd by Three-Man-Weave, 21st in the preseason mid-major top 25 by Mid-Major Madness. Kind of crazy how little buzz there seems to be within the fan base. Hope people are at least taking notice even if the focus right now is mostly on football.
