DRC: David Sow talks about decision to commit to UNT
BillySee58 replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I still don’t know what position he’s playing here. I get that he plays defensive end, and I get that Rod Young technically is a defensive end, but there’s no way Sow is coming in to take Young’s spot like Vito implied previously. Young plays 3-tech, which is more like a defensive tackle in a 4-3, which is the frame of reference for most people but not what we run. Hamilton’s base position is a 5-technique and is more similar to a 4-3 defensive end, but he’s also about the same size as Josh Wheeler who was the starting Jack (outside linebacker/edge rusher) during Littrell’s first two years. -
CUSA Coaches Poll - Best Job in the Conference
BillySee58 replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Bingo on your last point. We’ve had terrible coaches in the recruiting website era in football, save for Dickey at the beginning of that era when we had Fouts and we’re still just coming back to 1-A football. As for basketball, Johnny Jones got us some big-time recruits, especially in 2011 right before he left. Then we had the Benford fiasco. Now we are 9-3 in football and have the #1 class in CUSA and in basketball we’re 10-1 with the 17th ranked player in Texas as our only current commit. WKU and La Tech have consistently had extremely committed and competent administrations to ensure they are competitive. Their success is not because of their location. Alternatively with FAU and FIU, they have awful support but are still dangerous because of their location, so long as they have the right people in place. -
19' WDE Offer: David Sow; Navarro JUCO - 3*

I think so. Hard to tell the students to sit in the student section when seats are open almost everywhere. Benford was here for 5 years. A couple classes only got to see Benford ball, and a few others learned the UNT basketball experience during the latter 20-loss Benford seasons.

My 1st Basketball Game Today....Question
BillySee58 replied to MeanGreenWarDaddy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Glad to see you had good time 👍 -
0-3. We had lost 5 straight to them. Once under Mccasland, three times under Benford, and in Johnny Jones’ last year.
-
I know. You said this all throughout the Benford era telling us your basketball buddies thought UNT fans were ridiculous in their Benford criticisms and that we didn’t know what we were talking about. This is a widespread basketball movement that is seen at the NBA and college level. Having two traditional bigs is almost like starting a fullback in your base offense in football. Look at the Mavericks starting four, 6’7” Luka Doncic. Again, UTA was smaller than us. Height was not the problem.
-
Did you see the size of the guys who were outrebounding us? They were smaller than us. I don’t expect you to change course on your “bigger lineups are better” stance but there’s a reason this team is 10-1.

My 1st Basketball Game Today....Question
BillySee58 replied to MeanGreenWarDaddy's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Should be free at Fouts -
Looking to snap our 5-game losing streak against UTA tonight at 5. Also looking for our 10th straight win at The Super Pit.
-
I was looking into prospective coaches when it looked like Seth was gone. When I was looking at candidates who are OCs, one thing rang true for all of them is that their fanbases complain like crazy about all of them on twitter. One in particular was Mike Yurcich, the OC at Oklahoma State. He has consistently had top 10 offenses, including the number 2 offense last year and fans online want to run him out of town. Same with us an Graham. Highly criticizeable position.

GMG recruiting podcast. Need questions
BillySee58 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
But they’ve been committed for months and are ready to sign. I think it’s a different ballgame when you’re starting from scratch on a recruit and schools like SMU and La Tech are bringing up how close Littrell was to leaving with a recruit who we’ve haven’t already sold and built a rapport with. -

Do you expect Seth staying will hurt or help 2020 recruiting? I get that the obvious answer is that it will help being able to pitch that he turned down a P5 program himself, but will the negative recruiting from other schools saying he’s likely to leave at anytime make things more difficult than they were this year? -
DRC: Littrell informs team he's staying

That’s how this works, right?

We’re likely going to be favored in our first 8 CUSA games.
-
Someone also mentioned that we had played more games than anyone in the nation as of that night, and we did look tired. Not from a conditioning standpoint, but from a shooting standpoint. Our shooters looked like they had their legs back underneath them for the first time in a while last night. Hope we look the same the next time we play on the road as we will have had an even longer layoff before playing UNM. We have a realistic shot at a 12-1 OOC start to the season.
-
For example, this team already has 9 wins in the first week of December. Benford’s last team only finished with 8 wins for the entire season. A whopping two seasons ago.
-
I think the refs actually called targeting. God, they were bad.
-
Win by 10+ on the road against a team that had won 5 straight including against CUSA preseason favorite WKU. Nice OOC win.
-
North Texas - 72 Indiana State - 60 3:51 left. Can’t get sloppy now
-
Officiating has been bad. These are refs that anticipate foul calls
-
Simmons out on a flagrant 2
-
North Texas - 70 Indiana State - 49 7:49 left This has been our most impressive game of the season to this point. Need to finish.

Very reminiscent of Hawaii’s coach at halftime of that game.
