  1. Clayton Carlin from Sam Houston State
  2. I’m not suggesting any major playing time changes. If Shorter is out, playing Khatib Lyles while still preserving his redshirt would not be a bad look. They just rolled out Austin Ogunmakin two games ago. Your other outside options are a sophomore (White), RS freshman (Ogunmakin), and another true freshman (Simpson). And it would just be him mixing into the rotation, and in some cases 2 of those 4 I mentioned being on the field at the same time.
  3. Gabriel has actually already played in 5 games this year. Grayson is at 3. So Gabriel’s is already burned and it looks like they’re trying to preserve Grayson’s, in which case he can only participate in one more game. Surprisingly the most favorable true freshman linebacker this season has been Kevin Wood.
  4. If Shorter can’t go, I’d like to see Khatib Lyles these last four games. I’d also really like to see Jevin Murray out in pass coverage. I’m sure he’d look like a freshman in some regards, but he definitely has the coverage skills to add something of value to our secondary. I don’t think we’ll see any linemen or any linebackers who we haven’t already seen.
  5. Our recruiting suggests that we overachieved more the last two years than we’re underachieving this year.
  6. This is not an out-of-the-ordinary case for QB grad transfers, since they often are early enrollees out of high school. Which was the case for Buechele. He enrolled in Texas in the spring 2016 semester (graduated high school a semester early), then was at Texas for the 16-17 school year, 17-18 school year, and 18-19 school year so he was on campus for 7 full semesters, plus probably took summer classes as well. But only 3 football seasons. Joe Burrow at LSU is in the 2nd year there after graduating from Ohio State.
  7. Without going through each guy on your list, I know Nelson, Moore, and Sanders were all on the team last year.
  8. So it sounds like those are the guys that have been added over the years who are still on their roster. Which makes a lot more sense but also doesn’t fit the narrative that these guys all showed up over night and boosted their roster to new heights over the offseason.
  9. This conversation is going on in another thread as well. We’re not sure where the 31 transfers in one year stat comes from since 247 shows 16 D1 transfers. And yeah, they have done it with a lot more homegrown developed players than people on here are giving them credit for. But the transfers are very key to their operation, including the most important position (QB with Buechele) and an NFL prospect receiver in Roberson who transferred from WVU.
  10. 3 of SMU’s starters were added from other D1 schools this past offseason. 15 of their 22 starters signed with SMU out of high school or JUCO. Their lineup isn’t nearly as D1-transfer heavy as people are making it out to be. Heck, we added 2 starters via D1 transfer (Plantin and Harvey) this offseason, meaning we added just one less D1 transfer starter this offseason than SMU did.
  11. Just beat me to it. Exactly.
  12. I really don’t know where this 31 number people keep using is coming from. According to 247, looks like they signed 16 high schoolers, 3 jucos, and 16 D1transfers. Not sure how many of those D1 transfers were given scholarships, and I know one of them (DeAndre McNeal) left and went back to FAU. And of their 22 starters, I only see 3 that are D1 transfers they picked up this offseason, 2 are D1 transfers from the year before, and 2 more are D1 transfers from 2017. 15 of their 22 starters were signed to SMU out of HS or JUCO. But the narrative that gets spread on here has most people believing they got most of their starting lineup overnight from other D1 schools, and that’s just not true. https://247sports.com/college/smu/Season/2019-Football/Commits/
  13. I think he’ll be the best all-around tight end on our roster next year
  14. Or center. Same for Brammer imo
  15. I think Deonte Simpson has his breakout game as Jalen Darden draws the attention away from him and he gets single coverage all night. 34-24 UNT
  16. This dude is gonna be something here. We have a lot of young linebacking talent with KD Davis just a sophomore, plus Kevin Wood forcing some early PT, the Murphy twins, and Taylor Jacobs. A lot of guys for two second-level linebacker spots, but I just can’t see this dude staying on the sidelines for very long.
  17. Yeah, agree to disagree on this I guess. He should be done or pretty close to done rehabbing by the time he graduates. And he has a 1,000 yard season under his belt. No coach is looking at him in terms of his high school rating anymore. Plus, the vast majority of schools start three receivers in their base offenses. Coaches want to win, and if they think he would be one of their three best receivers they will give him strong consideration. And there are a lot of P5 teams that don’t have three receivers capable of 1,000 yard seasons, even at the G5 level.
  18. What raises his likelihood of getting drafted is putting on as much quality film as possible and impressing during the combine/Pro day phase. Getting 75 catches at UNT vs 45 at a P5 probably means he put on more quality film by staying. But if he can find a good situation where he can get good playing time and have comparable production, that means more quality tape for him playing at a P5 because of the competition level. Plus we all know his chances at getting a combine invite would be much better at a P5. And more attention at a P5 Pro day.
  19. His recruiting thread is posted above. He’s a receiver listed on our roster at 6’2” 216 lbs, so he has prototypical size for an outside receiver and very good high school tape. He also had one of the most impressive list of offers for any player we have signed in some time. Offers included Utah, Kansas, Indiana, and Texas Tech.
  20. I think he’s gone. It sounds like he will be getting an engineering degree from UNT in the spring, which is very impressive for a football player with that much time commitment. He has done all we could ask from him and more. Going to a P5 school and getting that exposure would be probably the smart move for him, with an engineering degree already in hand. Would definitely be extremely bittersweet to see him get drafted but not have it count towards breaking our streak. But I can’t wait to see Khatib Lyles next year.
  21. Last year the staff was intent with the roster we had and basically signed a class full of high schoolers. Added a couple jucos late and grad transfers. This year it looks like the opposite. We are content with our high schoolers between this class and last and I think you’re going to see us fill the rest of the class up with JUCOs and grad transfers.
  22. Reminder that this dude is a class headliner and has one of the best offer lists in this class.
  23. Umoja Gibson - Last year’s leading scorer Zachary Simmons - Junior entering his third year as a starter Larry Wise - Redshirt Freshman who hasn’t played a minute Definitely not ragging on Larry, but you have to think that’s a good sign for him that he’s one of the three players showcasing the new jerseys.
  24. I’m not sure what you’re going off of with those numbers. You don’t get 25 HS signees per class. You get 25 total initial counters. Which includes D1 scholarship transfers, JUCOs, and walking places on scholarship before playing 2 full seasons as a walkon. In 2016, in addition to HS commits, we also signed Bryce English, Alec Morris, Dee Baulkman, EJ Ejiya, Darius Turner, Josh Wheeler, and TJ Henson in that class. And in 2017 we had some more jucos, plus some blue shirts who we signed late in 2016 that counted towards the 2017 class like Eric Jenkins.
  25. Not sure what you mean by this. He did get 25 spots in his first 2 classes. He wasn’t able to get up to a full 85 scholarships in those first two years, but he stil got 25 spots in the classes.
