  1. Does that mean it’s not 80s ball because it continued past that? That’s rhetorical. You don’t have to respond to that. Words have meanings. Mediocre means moderate or low quality. There are about 200 basketball players in CUSA. 10 of those 200 were named to the 1st or 2nd all conference teams. Roughly 5% of the conference. Top 5% is not moderate or low quality. The flaws you pointed out prove more why he wasn’t 1st team than they prove he was mediocre. All the other superfluous misdirection doesn’t change how ridiculous it is to say he had a mediocre season.
  2. Come on, Mo. Only staying a 40% three-point shooter (with the three point lines moved back)? Gotta pick that up. I knew we would come back to this place. The galaxy brain spot where watching the games is all it takes to reveal that a player voted 2nd-team all conference by media and coaches, who apparently don’t watch the games, was actually mediocre. How many players were above mediocre in CUSA then? 8? Why would Bell push Gibson out of the starting lineup? Bell played the 4 all season. And somehow you still seem to hope Mccasland goes old school 80s ball and puts two traditional bigs on the court, when he has shown for three seasons (here, more including his other stops) that that’s not his style.
  3. His season was mediocre in what aspect? What metric substantiates that claim?
  4. Get outta here with that mess Maybe he is graduating in three years and going somewhere else as a grad transfer. Otherwise, yeah he’d have to sit next year and would only have one season of eligibility left. If he’s not a grad transfer that’s definitely a head-scratching decision.
  5. This tweet seemed cryptic at the time. Wonder if he knew.
  6. The transfer market has really been heating up across the country but we haven’t heard anything from UNT or even had graduate transfers tied to UNT. We also haven’t seen any offers extended to high school or JUCO players since early February. I know it’s tough with the current circumstances, but we are seeing movement across the country. Currently two spots to work with. The lack of JUCO and HS offers lately makes me wonder if we’re evaluating the busy transfer market.
  7. Sawyer Robertson just committed to Mississippi State. Wonder if Greek wants to be the only QB signing of his class
  8. My guess is because he left before classes actually started. It starts when you become a full-time student (12 hours or more), so I think just enrolling doesn’t start the timer but the actual attendance is what makes you a full-time student.
  9. Aune’s gonna win the job and put up Fine-like numbers
  10. Anosike didn’t last long. Here’s another good grad transfer fit who just hit the market https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/stats/_/id/3922033/frederick-scott
  11. Harmon is class of 2021. He will still be in high school next year.
  12. I doubt it. Unless he really favors us for offering first.
  13. Truthfully, I’d want most of them. But with only two spots currently left and a lot of guys on our bench who have not been proven rotation players, I’m not sure we can afford a guy sitting out a season. If we move on from guys like J Simmons, Mohamed, Alcindor, and maybe Wise (still has promise), then we could start talking about getting a guy or two who has to sit next season. I really like Anosike, Koval, and Pyle. They all would give us something we haven’t really had under Mccasland. Anosike would be the best rebounder we’ve had under Mccasland and that was a weak point at times last year. Plus he’s just a very good overall player. Koval would give us a legit shot blocker and rim protector, which we also haven’t had under Mccasland. And he can shoot 3s as a 7 footer so he could help with spacing. And Pyle would give us a legit sharp shooting forward, which we also have been lacking under Mccasland. 43% on 5.7 attempts per game is elite. Those three could also easily go to power conference schools, but I’d take any of them. So much of what happens this offseason hinges on guys like J Simmons, Mohamed, and Alcindor. Unless one of them takes a huge step forward, truthfully that’s 3 non-rotational caliber players at the CUSA level on the bench. But finding good transfer situations for them could really open things up for improving the roster, with the on-court momentum we built up.
  14. 6’1” Point Guard from Newport News, VA. 247 shows him at Hampton Roads Academy this year. Holds offers from a lot of East Coast schools, the highest profile of which is from VCU. We offered a while back, but I decided to go ahead and make this thread since Jareem Dowling retweeted Nesbitt’s mom’s video of his highlights. So there’s a chance we are still recruiting him. https://247sports.com/player/amir-nesbitt-46057309/ http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/amir-nesbitt
  15. Brandon Murray has absolutely blown up since we came in with his first reported offer about 3 months ago. Now holds offers from schools like Va Tech, Georgetown, DePaul, Ole Miss, Wichita State, and multiple A10 schools. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/brandon-murray-md Also, I found it interesting that Jareem Dowling retweeted this video on twitter posted by Nesbitt’s mom. We offered a good while back, but I wonder if that means we’re still actively recruiting him. Has a solid offer list that includes VCU. http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/amir-nesbitt
  16. Definitely. A lot of these transfers are guys who played for bad mid major teams and they want a taste of competitive basketball and a chance at the NCAA tournament. We are right in the sweet spot for these type of transfers because these players typically still want to start, so going to traditional major-conference at-large teams is a little riskier, and we still offer the chance to play in the NCAA tournament. Whether or not we go after them is another question. But this season was huge for recruiting. Obviously could have been even more but the fact is we won CUSA and the chance to play for that caliber of team for guys who were playing in worse conference for bad teams in those conferences, there is a lot of appeal here.
  17. While recruiting is on a halt right now, the transfer market is heating up. No one has announced intentions to transfer from UNT, but many players have elsewhere. Here are a couple lists: https://watchstadium.com/college-basketballs-2019-20-midseason-transfer-list-10-31-2019/amp/?__twitter_impression=true http://verbalcommits.com/transfers/2020 We only have two spots remaining at the moment but I think it’s very likely that we would find room if the right guys came available. Here are some guys who I particularly like: • Hayden Koval, JR C Central Arkansas. 7 footer originally from Prosper. I think he’d be a great fit with very good shot blocking and solid 3-point shooting ability. Not sure if he’d be eligible immediately as a grad transfer or if he’d have to sit a year. Not super confident he could fit next to Simmons. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/hayden-koval-1.html • Morris Udeze, SO F Wichita State From Houston. Think he’d have to sit a year. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/morris-udeze-1.html • Cory Hightower, SO F Presbyterian Think he’d have to sit a year. Likelihood seems low but I think he’d be a good fit. Leading scorer and rebounder from Presbyterian. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/cory-hightower-1.html • EJ Anosike, GRAD F Sacred Heart Another low likelihood here, but he’d be the best rebounder we’ve had under Mccasland. Not sure he’s enough of a shooter to be a perfect fit at the 4 for Mccasland, but he was a very productive player in the NEC. 15.7 points/11.6 rebounds a game last year. Also a consistently good free throw shooter for his career. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/ej-anosike-1.html • Gerrale Gates, SO F New Orleans 6’6” 250 post who was Southland Freshman of the Year in 18-19. Seems kind of like the player we wanted Jahmiah Simmons to be. Also not much a three-point shooter so maybe not a good fit at the 4 here, but he is also a good free-throw shooter. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/gerrale-gates-1.html • Ben Pyle, SO F Western Illinois A little light at 6’7” 185 lbs but he would come in and be likely the best shooter on our roster, and he’s a decent rebounder as well. 12.3 points/5.3 rebounds a game last year and shot 43% from three on a whopping 5.7 attempts per game. Also just shy of 90% from the free-throw line. Again, another long shot but good fit. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/ben-pyle-1.html
  18. How would the 09-10 season be outside the decade but the 19-20 season is in the decade? And how did I know you would come up with some weird way to spin things before admitting you had it wrong when you said White and Thompson last played in 2010? Do we agree the decade was 2010-2019? For basketball, because each season takes place across two separate calendar years, we have to make a decision on what 10 seasons made up the decade. There are three ways we can choose for parameters on the decade. 1. Strictly games that took place in years ending in 10-19. Which would include the second half of the 2009-2010 season, all nine seasons from 2010-2011 to 2018-2019, and the first part of the 2019-2020 season. 2. Only include seasons in which the spring portion of the schedule took place in years ending in 10-19. This would be the entire 2009-2010 season, including the part of the season that occurred technically in the 2000s decade, all the way through the 2018-2019 season. This would consider the 2019-2020 season all as part of the 2020 decade, including the games that season which place in 2020. 3. Only include seasons in which the fall portion of the schedule took place in years ending in 10-19. This would start at the 2010-2011 season and go all the way through the entire 2019-2020 season, including the part of the season that occurred in the 2020s decade. This would consider the 2009-2010 season all as part of the 2000 decade, including the games that season which took place in 2010. So which one we pick determines what we consider this decade. Imo it should either be 1 or 2. I don’t get how you can consider what occurred in spring of 2010 to be a part of the 2000-2009 decade. Especially because the spring is when the actual conference games, conference tournament, and NCAA tournament take place. Are you referring to the 2009-2010 team when you say that was the only team that could challenge last year’s in success? If so are you considering that team as part of the decade or not? Because if you are, then White and Thompson were on 2 teams this decade by this logic. That very good 2009-2010 team you’re referring to and the 2010-2011 team. And if that’s the case then counting Hamlet’s season as part of the decade would be counting 11 teams as part of the decade as well. Also, just to be clear, Hamlet only played 13 games between 1/1/2010 and 12/31/2019. He averaged 10 points and 4 assists in those 13 games. White and Thompson played 51 games during that same time frame. My original point was simply that White and Thompson did not play the same amount of time this decade that Hamlet did. It was not one season each for all three of them. Again, 51 games in the decade for the two of them against just 13 for Hamlet. And White and Thompson didn’t last play in 2010 like you had said in a previous post.
  19. White and Thompson played the 09-10 season and the 10-11 season. So, unlike Hamlet, they played a full season in the decade. And 2 conference seasons/conference tournaments.
  20. Wow. I hope we really improve our bench yet I also hope Hamlet’s minutes go up. He can handle more than 30 minutes a game. Senior season, let him eat.
  21. Done for spring sports. Not sure about basketball. A lot of teams’ seasons were already over.
  22. With Wise it all comes down to shooting. If he can hit from the outside with some measure of consistency, he definitely has the skill set to see plenty of time on the court.
